President Hugo chaves of Venesuala has won his third term in office with 54% of the votes while his arch rival Henrique Capriles managed around 44.99%. Mr Chavez the champion of the poor and dispossessed will again rule the country for another his 6 year term starting from February 2013. According to national electoral council, 81 percent of nearly 19 million registered voters casted their ballots. Addressing to his supporters, Chavez pledged: ‘’Venezuela said we will never return back to neoliberalism, and we will continue transition to the democratic socialism of the 21st century’’.
Some regional leaders have already congratulated the president such as his friend Bolivian leader Evo Morales who himself came to power for the back of the poor in his country, saying on his twitter ‘’ your victory is also ours; it’s for South America and the Caribbean. Cuban President Raul Castro was also the first to congratulate him.
Chavez was first elected in 1998 and since then he has been waging what he calls a ‘’Bolivarian revolution’’ towards socialism. He has received a lot of negative coverage from Western media. Addressing his supporters he said, apart from these internal elections there are another elections which is ‘’Chavizmo’’ as Chavez is called in Venezuela and all over Latin America against Washington’’.
