To Him we belong and unto Him we return

Innaalillaahi wa innaa Ilayhi Raajicuun.

He was a healer through medicine and a sweet character; he was a political analyst and an activist; he was a loving husband, stepfather, brother, uncle, from one of the largest and most famous families in the Horn of Africa; he was a household name in North America and among the mental health communities; he was a friend of everyone; he was … he was … he was Dr. Abdishakour Sheikh Ali Jowhar whose life was cut short by a car accident on May 12th, 2012 on the road between Dilla and Borama, Somaliland.
It is with great sadness that we lost such a giant scholar, comrade, patriot and beacon of human rights, Dr. Jowhar, might God bless his soul.

As we are forced to contemplate a world without his direct counsel, assistance and kind words, we also take comfort knowing that he left us with many fond memories and gave a nation in search of guidance the kindest gift of all, his erudite writings.

We invite you to remember with us his remarkable life, work and contribution to humanity. Please join us for a gathering commemorating our son, brother, uncle, friend, colleague and counsel, Late Dr. Abdishakur Sheikh Ali Jowhar, on

RIP Dr. Jowhar. The best and most memorable line I heard from this titan when describing Somali people was "the only enemy a tribe knows is the tribe next door"
