HARGEISA (Somalilandpress) — Vice-Presidential Candidate Mr. Ahmed Yusuf Yassin warned opposition parties and their supporters against inciting violence during the on going campaigns period.
Speaking at freedom park on Thursday, he thanked all residents of Hargeisa especially the ruling party supporters who had turned up at the campaign rally for their support and trust for the ruling party in this coming presidential elections which is expected to be held on 26th June 2010.
Later on he held a press conference at the presidential Palace where he thanked the ruling party supporters for their loyalty.
Somalilandpress reporter, Mr. Abdiqani Baynah who was at the venue quoted the vice-president: “at the end of this, let me just emphasise again. All eyes are on Somaliland elections which should be free and fair,” he said.
There was a more ambitious view on the Somaliland case which is seeking her recognition from the international community and has a hard-earned reputation for stability in a turbulent region.
Foreign media reported that the polls will be a test for political stability in the poor country.

This guy does not know what he is talking about if anyone is going to cause violence its the two old school gangs (Udub and Kulmiye). Dont play the innocent card with us Mr Yassin. You are good man but your selling your self too cheap.
peacefully, yes
That is what African leaders do, let me tell u that Kulmiye will win Insha'Allahu the coming presidential election
Kays,
Absolutely agree that the two old-school gangs are now Somaliland's ''Tom & Jerry''
UCID is gonna win this term and may be add the next depending on how they perform and develop the country on their coming 5 years.
Hassan
It is crucial for human success to store peace, and maintain peaceful political environment, therefore, becoming mandatory to every politician to promote peace and harmony.
Well, the campaign is taking place smoothly all over the country and frankly speaking Udub party proofing that their party is undefeatable, have two super strong hold regions, and two good supportive regions, plus three average udub supporters states.
However, if that prediction goes as expected, kulmiye and ucid with out not doubt have not chance to this elections.
They can form a coalition to defeat UDUB if they want and be the president and the vice-president. It is a good strategy that works.
constitution does not allow that, my dear
There is no constitution forbidding the unity of the opposition parties, remember Qaran party? They formed a coalition with Kulmiye.
Somaliland should have two parties we are only 3.5 million people and only 35-40% are eligible to vote, that makes it very small number to count only 1-1.5 million people.
I dont recommend UCID forms unity with Kulmiye we share nothing in common, its like taking the rule from old gangs and giving it to another oldies. UDUB = Kulmiye, the only difference is Silanyo is SNM, Rayale is former Siad Bare soldier.
First its not in the interest of the opposition that violence disrupts before these elections but it is in the interest of UDUB, except when parliament was locked by the president and if any somalilander thinks it was wrong to protest against such an action, then you are no good for your country.
We are making the same mistake that our politians do. if we’re going to talk the talk, we’ve got to walk the walk. In 20 years we been talkin about to reconstruct the infrastruchure. Electricity, is there and worikin fine, by ambitious entrepreneur. We should go into details and improve it. There is some existence of water, but we need to drill more for rural area and make it clean and affordible. Roads are in severe damages, over the years we have seen so many tragic deaths in our roads. We have to start some where to improve them. Our health service is appalling, i dont think any of our presidentail contestant would like to be treated in our hospitals. We need constructive policy to all these things. Economy> to start with, we need one single currency all over the country, commercail centre to buy and sell shares. Creating jobs and investing in technology.
It's interesting how Kulmiye by many of its rivals is viewed as a Qabiliste party when in actual fact Ucid is the one that’s qabil based. Ucid's main support base are ppl hailing from the chairman's tribe and more recently groups from Odwayne/wburco district that have been fleeing Udub in large numbers. In my opinion, out of the two parties Kulmiye is more inclusive and has a larger support base within the Somaliland population.
Udub has recently been losing supporters from across the regions. Many of the Udub supporters from west-burco/odwayne have been turning to Ucid whereas supporters from the rest of the Somaliland regions turned to Kulmiye.
..continued in next post.
..continued
Even though both candidates have secured support from their prospective constituencies, they need to reach out to other constituencies and populations to win the elections. Kulmiye has done this very well, and is currently enjoying large support from constituencies in the West that have in the past supported Udub.
I will view Ucid as a serious contender for Kulmiye when I see Kulmiye/Udub supporters from Gabiley, Balagubedle, Awdal etc all fleeing their prospective parties to join Ucid.
In the mean time, I am very sure that Kulmiye is very happy that Ucid eey la qaybsanayso Udub supporters and it’s good news that Udub supporters in w/burco/odwayne are being halved!
