Hargeisa (SomalilandPress) – United Nations Industrial Development Organization held a graduation ceremony for local students that graduated from vocational and trainings of sewing, batik, carpentry and food processing. The graduate students attended Vocational Training Center of the institutes of HAVOYOCO and SOOYAAL two local NGOs that has been known to excellent work with the youths in the country. A well organized graduation ceremony was held for the students at Mansoor hotel where each students was present with certificate of graduation from the respective vocational institute and toolkits for each respective trade.
Attending on behalf of the government were the General Director of Ministry of Higher Education, Mr. Mohamed Hassan Ibrahim and also the Director General of Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs Mr. Bashe Yusuf Ahmed. Representing UNIDO at the event was Sean Paterson Chief Technical Advisor and Country Programme in Somaliland, and Officer from UNDP Mr, Abdi Abokor, as well as the heads of the two training institutions, Mr. Mohamed Omar {Qadaafi} from the HAVOYOCO and Mr. Hassan Abdi Mohamed from Sooyaal.
Mr. Sean Paterson UNIDO country Programme opened the ceremony as he acknowledged the importants and benefits of these vocational trainings for the graduates and their families. These graduates will be able to use what they learned from their vocational training and will be able to make a living with it. Mr. Paterson thanked the Japanese government which funded the implementation of this program. Mr. Paterson also thanked both local NGOs HAVOYOCO and SOOYAAL for their help with the training and implementation of the program.
Director General of Ministry of Higher Education in Somaliland Mr. Mohamed Hassan Ibrahim thanked UNIDO for the running the Program in partner with HAVOYOCO and SOOYAAL. Mr. Ibrahim also thanked the government of Japan for funding UNIDO’s projects in Somaliland. Last to address the audience was Mr. Mohamed Omar Qadaafi who also thanked both UNIDO and the government of Japan. Mr. Omar encouraged the graduating students to use their skills in bettering themselves and also to give back to the community. The graduation ceremony concluded with each student receiving a tool kit compromising of his/her field of trade.
