OPINION | FEBRUARY 11, 2012
By Yusuf Dirir Ali, MD
I am sure the “United Somalia” empty slogan will be shouted some trillion times or perhaps zillion times both inside and outside the conference hall before and during the up coming international London conference on Somalia. There is a special significance to this slogan and is used tactfully to conceal the well documented terrible Somalia oppression that finally led to the internationally ignored genocide in Somaliland.
The international community needs to better understand an unwritten malevolent rule that exists in the minds of the Somalia people. They believe that Somalia will not be able to stand on its own feet and sustain itself politically without a Somaliland that can be ill-treated and loathed in times of Somalia’s political upheavals and frustrations. Not only that, Somaliland is used as scapegoat, nuisance- relief and as a punching bag by the gory Somalia public and equally by their hard-nosed political leaders. Thus, the only thing that Somalia people agree upon without reservation is the motto that says: “Somaliland independence and development must be fought and be destroyed”. Among many other malicious smearing political campaigns and violent acts – Somaliland insurgency groups are created and supported by the Somalia people from Garoowe in Puntland to Mogadishu.
To better understand the mentality of the people in Somalia, we need to go back to the last few months that preceded the independence of Somalia from Italy and the early days of the Somaliland-Somalia union. The political leaders of Somalia were on each others throat and there was a political disaster that was waiting to happen in Somalia, which was gratefully then averted by the Somaliland-Somalia union. The politicians in Somalia got an outsider – Somaliland, whom they all agreed to oppress. In contrast to Somalilanders expectation of fair power sharing process, Somalia opportunistically opted to unilaterally take the Presidency, the Prime Ministerial post and almost all the other Ministerial portfolios of the newly formed union and without consulting with the Somaliland’s democratically elected politicians.
Subsequently, the ratification of the union by the Somaliland legislative assembly was ignored and in the end Somaliland was annexed through Presidential decree and not through bilaterally agreed legal process. This was not done entirely through political blunders of Somalia, but the elected Somaliland politicians, who were better educated than their counterparts in Somalia, played a crucial part in negligently accepting the colony status in the name of creating a wishful and deceptive Greater Somalia phantom state in the Horn of Africa.
The Somaliland politicians naively thought that Somalis from Somalia were their brethren and were not bothered very much by the power hungry Somalia politicians. Because, Somalilanders didn’t quite understood the political culture and ulterior motives of the Somalia people, they thought the inconvenience and maltreatment they faced in Mogadishu was just a trifling ingredient of the growing pains caused by integration of two different countries into one united state – The Somali Republic.
In Somaliland power sharing was always and still is based on negotiated compromises and through reasonable democratic processes. But in Somalia the political culture was much different; it was based on “the strongest clan gets all” and unfortunately that political meanness still exists in Somalia. On the other hand, Somalia politicians took Somaliland’s courteous accommodating political concessions and amicability for granted and wrongfully interpreted it as a weakness.
After all these historical happenings the people from Somalia erroneously concluded that they will be able to use that failed tactics of the 1960s to inveigle and at times intimidate Somaliland to rejoin the union. They believe the international community will finally succumb to their misguide arguments and twisted logical as long as they continue obnoxiously shouting the out of date and insincere “United Somalia” slogan and in that case the international community will get fed up and will consequently impose the abhorred union on Somalilanders.
Finally, it is up to the international community to allow the people of Somaliland to be either exterminated or recognized to breathe in their own country as dignified sovereign people. Thousands of Somalilanders bravely fought and died alongside the allies as loyal British soldiers in both World Wars. Therefore, Great Britain must not let the Somaliland blood that was shed to defend this country to go in vain.
The UK government has once before accepted and recognized the legitimate right of self determination for the Somaliland people in 26th June 1960, now the United Kingdom and its allies are again morally and strategically obligated to lead and reaffirm the sovereignty of Somaliland and not to listen to the eerie sounds from Somalia and other doomed to failure Somaliland enemies.

The word “Somaliland” simply means the land of Somalis or the land of Somali people. Those who promote secession of a country called Somaliland have very tough time to sell the merit of creating a Somali state within a Somalia. Maybe they would have a better luck should they invent a new name to their modern day utopia. Waq Waq Island could be a good choice. Separatists sound ridiculous when they use the name Somaliland and simply hope that the world would see that there is a country or a region in Somalia with specific distinctive characteristics that separates it from rest of Somalia. Northern Somalia does not have homogenous people to collectively decide on separation from rest of Somalia. Makhir state (north eastern Somalia), Khatumo State (borders Nugal region) and Audal State (northwestern Somalia) are all inhabited by people who don’t want to dismantle Somalia. That is why we have a fighting that is raging in Boohodle as I write this comment.
Mr. Dirir, it is not difficult to understand why some Somali people will choose unity over petty tribal squabbles and regionalism. What is clearly difficult is how separatists like you can claim with straight face that all the people that inhabit historical British Somaliland want independence from Somalia. It is also difficult to understand what drives people like you to divide a country instead of building a strong united nation. You argue that Southern Somalia denies the people of northern Somalia their indelible right to self-determination. However, it equally wrong for those who want to divide Somalia into enclaves to force this choice on those who do not want to be part of this misguided project. As the saying goes “what is good for the goose is good for the gander”. And besides, northern Somalia is today much different than the British Somaliland that you are discussing here to be reconstituted.
Sorry, Africa is based on colonial borders even your so call Somalia is based on Italian borders. Somaliland has it's own unique history, dialect and traditions that are completely different than Somalia. Arabs live in different countries so does Chinese, Koreans and other African countries; such as Eritrea and Ethiopia has same tribes but different histories that led them to be two nations today.
Trashing aside the main of your comments as ridiculously useless,
a) Somaliland is not a secessionist.
b) Somalia is failed state and there's no democratically elected functioning Govt from 1991 todate.
There's the worst civil wars raging all over Somalia as we speak. The weak TFG supported by
Foreign legion Amisom is expiring in August 2012 replaced by UN trusteship and joint IC key
players. Somalia's fait accomplt as a sovereign State is off the World map and decision making
will no longer remain in the hands of Somalia. Somalia becomes Dead end into unknown future.
c) In contrast Somaliland is a blossoming democracy with all the necessary tools and ready to
reclaim her Independence of the 1960 from HMG Great Britain. Let's see what happens in the
Somalia London Conference on 23 February 2012.
Cheers.
How about the word "Somalia"? it was created by the Italians. It is very easy to see the structure of the word. the last two letters disclose this. To test this: Italia… but it should not surprise any person, the origins of the words, somaliland or Somalia, they are invented by the colonial powers of that era.
The independence of Somaliland has to do with other more important historical fats. But that is another story…
Actually Somalia is a name within its own right, Italians called somalia "somalo" they were both called Somliland the south called Italian Somaliland and the north British Somaliland. The great leaders which inspired our unity and cause as one nation such as Sayid Mohamed Abdullah Hassan came from British Somaliland.
And now it times of trouble Instead of showing leadership in the region they want to cut off from the rest of the nation?.And as for colonial borders the europeans had to dvivde us into three different european powers Italy, Brtiain and France becuase we as a people we were too hard to control.
Allemagan, unless you are acting a blind and stupid or was born after 1991, Somaliland's name was not creating yesterday. It is ridiculous to even mention that. Somaliland was Somaliland we joined the that deemed and gloomed so called union. Besides, our borders were not drawn by Somalia. Somaliland has internationally defined borders and it is going to stay that way whether the minority among us like or not. So, advocating for something that will never materialize outrageous. We know that people like you want to destabilize Somaliland so bad that it would be another Somalia. That will never happen!
One shall not be a part of a country by force. We know what happen in Ethiopia vs Eritrea. Blood and treasure lost for nothing. The people of Somaliland do not need to be part of a failed state of Somalia. They are doing just fine. When the time comes to be part of a united Somalia or any other entity they may decide the for them. In the mean time the international community have an obligation to recognize them as a country.
Correction: Fait accompli i/o fait accomplt.
Cheers.
ooohhhh, here we go, once again some old clanish bs. It is people like you who cannot and do not see beyond their midiocre clanish nose, would repeat again and again those obsolete cliche. Cant you hear yourself, you sound like a broken record. Somalia destiny was an already done deal, since when your uncle afweyne decided to invade Ethiopia against the wishes of his handlers USSR and the USA. Thus, it was decided to a put leash or to tame the wild somali beast as in the words of Bashir Goth "Modern day Mongols". So there will never be united somaliweyn. Somalia like former Yugoslavia will be balkanized and be devided into maniature state for various preditors to help themselves. Kenya and Ethiopia invation of somalia, including Uganda and Burundi has nothing to do with helping to restore law and order. This nations are in somalia to claim their shares resources to be plundered, another reason, for Kenya and Ethiopia, they are in somalia to curve for themselves a chunk of real estate to plunder. For Keny, their real estate has materialized in the form of Azania/Jubbaland, while Ethiopia is in the process of claimimg their share with the help of their proxy entity ASWJ. How about Uganda and Burundi then, what are they in somalia for? The nswer is, Uganda and Burundi are in somalia to plunder natural resources and wealth. Uganda is not strange to such forays. Back in the mid to late 1990's Uganda and Rwanda Invaded DRC-Congo formerly known as Zaire, they established their proxy militias. While Uganda and Rwanda proxy militias are still causing havoc in parts of eastern DRC-Congo, these two countries have enriched themselves economically by plundering DRC-Congo's rare metal minerals. Highly sought minerals like Coltrane which are only found in easter DRC-Congo. soil containing this minerals are shipped in containers through Dar es salaam port. Coltrane is very expensive as well as very important mineral, one kilogram of coltrane cost between 20000-30000 USD.
The problem with the somalia's people and leaders, they are so myopic to the extent they cannot see beyond truncated noses. They cannot read the dynamics of political events. Even the obese leaders of djibouti cannot read political dynamics, he just jumped on the bandwagon dancing follow the leader dance all the way to mogadisho. Tin pot dictator ismail omar gelle thinks he is helping people of somalia which is a fallacy and far from the truth. Djibout sending their troops to somalia will only legitimized the cannibilizing of somalia by christian plunderers, Djibouti will never be allocated share of the booty may be some few crumps but their precsence will give the christian plunderers a justification like we togather with a muslim and a somali nation.
The problem with people of somalia togather with their so called myopic visionless leaders. Who are nothing but re-cycled former warlords and alsheydan leaders. These people are so obsessed with Somaliland and they hate Somaliland so much so that, they dont even care of working hard to pull themselves out of that flaming abyss they are in. And they are working hard to pull down Somaliland in to that hellhole. There are two reason which have contributed to the demise of Somalia, first of all, it is the conept of somaliweyn, the former somali republic is victim of its own reckless machination and poor visionless leaders who are the prime source of all these madness and mayhem which is going on in mogadisho. Mohamed haji ibrahim Egal, you can say was the only true visionair who could have saved somalia way back in 1969 from all these madness. He tried but he was never given a chance to actualised his vision of detente or mending fences with somalia's neighbours. this is one reason which led somalia to such sorry situation somalia is in now. Another reason why somalia finds itself in such predicament is southerners collective hate of northers or people living in present day Somaliland. And this hate did not start yesterday, but actually it started since 60s when these territories joined togather and still this hate is continuing at present moment. Unless these inept faqash and walaweyne realised that, whenever they show bellicose and uncompromising attitude towards Somaliland, Kenya and Ethiopia becomes more suspicious. And hence they administer a further dose of destabilisation to somalia a petient already in comatose. These two powers in the region will never accept the resurrection of somaliweyn concept even the big power are with these two countries to eradicate these discredited concept of somaliweyn. So walaweyns and faqash the choice is yours either you let somaliland go its way and discard somaliweyn concept or you will continue to be stucked in this morass for another twenty years to come.
Well said. you must be a real jambazi. kkk
Thanks, are you Ahmed Aidid from nga near oldonyo orok?
no am a brother from nakuru
which part of nakuru? kambi somali or kabarak?
kambi somali where else.
Religion should not be used unless it is Good over Evil. People who justify stealing and thuggish behaviour to needy people aren't religious. Regardless of which continent you are from.
The fact is Africa and the Middle East do not have Nuclear capabilities. As far as the world is aware. They are the most colonised or the first to be used by Nuclear capable countries to use for their purposes. Its time this pattern is broken and the African/Middle East regions protect their assets and economical well being.
@ Allemagan
You wrote: "The word “Somaliland” simply means the land of Somalis or the land of Somali people. Those who promote secession of a country called Somaliland have very tough time to sell the merit of creating a Somali state within a Somalia".
Sorry, you seem to be a little bit confused. FYI Somalia is the former Italian colony, Somaliland is the former British protectorate.
Somaliland-Somalia union was officially named the Somali Republic and not Somalia. Please do not be blinded by your clannish myopic hatred towards the Somalilanders and stop using Somaliland as your punching bag.
@ Allemagan
Somaliland was a country that joined Somalia and it’s shameful that you are denying that fact on the basis of tribal hostility.
Ironically you portrait Somalilanders are “separatists” and yet preach that Khatumo and Makhir are “building a strong united nation”. The real separatists are Khatumo and Makhir who are merely driven by tribal enmity without even considering what they will gain from the reunion they are seeking.
Both Khatumo and Makhir states only exist in the brains of people like Allamegan. Mr/Ms Allemagan needs to come out of his/her clannish shell and accept the facts on the ground. Denying historical and current facts on the ground is not the answer. You can not tell Somaliland to change its name to Waaq Waaq land and in the same breath say that Somali unity is what you advocate.
What a useless argument! Thats all you got! Somaliland is the land of Somalis, yea mofo we got Somalis living in it! We just want your suicidal, blood thirsty Italian Somaliland aka Mafia living with us because your animals and you have shown the world that fact for the past 21 years!
Focus on not letting your women and children starve on parched lands while turkey and God knows who else comes to the rescue when you all still fight over scraps!
Somaliland is the difference! NOT ALL SOMALIS ARE CREATED EQUAL! Allah has shown us this already! Some want to build and live in peace together and others just want to abuse and call names!
Game Over! Somaliland is gone get used to it, matter of fact get OFF OUR SITE YOU STALKER! OBSESSIVE MUCH?
OK!! I get it. But what happens if Somaliland never get international recognition? Will they share power if an inclusive democratic governement is established in Somalia? By the way, I hear this over and over again, is it only one tribe in northern Somalia that wants Somaliland to be independent from the rest of Somalia – or all the tribes (communites) are united to do so?
I think that it is better for the Somali people in the north participate in rebuilding Somali state that is democratic, united, peaceful, federal where every community, tribe, is represented.
Shakir history has shown us that the north did not get a fair share and with all the hate they're still getting from the south firstly there wouldnt be a democratic state in somalia and secondly history will repeat itself. Remember it was not the politicians who chose to be independent from somalia it was the people.the north has already rebuilt there part without south's help so why shouldnt the people of the south do the same.
@jambazi & Ahmed Aidid
I usually get annoyed when I see Abyssinians who impersonate Somalis spew their poison in Somali forums to incite hatred among unsuspecting nomads. It is now more annoying to see naked Massa tribesmen from oldonyo orok park decked with ear and lip rings tell Somalis how their land will be carved up between Ethiopia and Kenya. Guys, let us handle this as an issue for Somalis. We don not need your help for this one. Hand me that bail. I am getting sick.
Those masai tribe have more humanity and empathy than you walaweyn and faqash people. and fyi, those masai people do not kill each other the you people are doing. Even wild animals donot kill each for nothing the way you people are doing to each. I am a full blooded somalilander from saxil, and yes iam proud to be a somalilander. It is such mentality you have exposed up there which makes other difficult for other members of humanity understan you savage barbarians. Give me one important reason why savages butchering each other. FYI those masai tribes are more civilised than you barbarians from former italian somalia.
@ Allemagan
Do not worry about the bail, just use the floor , it is not the Kenyans that are making you sick, its your hatred towards Somaliland. I suggest that you seek help to clean your body from this deadly poison known as tribalism.
pail that is
@Abdi123
Don't tie yourself into knots about the name. Waq is not a bad named to be give to a country. The name was given to the pagan god of the Somali and Galla people before they converted to Islam. That is why you have Ceel Waaq, Caabud Waaq, Amarti Waaq and waligaa iyo waaqa waxaas oo kale ma aragtay in our language and place names.
That is a walowyn deity and places, aren't they? Sorry, We are Muslims and we don't warship Waaqs here in Somaliland.
Allemagan, when it comes to, who came from where we are: Reer Ishaaq Bini Ahmed Bini Hashem and not from Un-Islamic names like Combo, kablaxlax, "Jabarti or Zabedi" which I know very well what it means because I grow up in Yemen and who were those people and what role of class they play in the Yemeni society. So, don't even go there or bring names that you could segregate Somalilanders from being who they are.
Oke Seriosuly? Somalia need to say first Acudubilahay minashaytany rajiim. There problem is that they dont think about what will happen to them after they die. Dont they know that Allah will be judging them about how they lie, kill, rape, terroris, cheat, put brothers of islam against each other? I would say to the Somalia people: Stop hating and wanting things that are not realistic. And think what you are doing to the future of your own children. Somaliland will never join Somalia ever again, and 3,5 to 4 milion people will die for it even. So please Somalia people stop hating on your Somaliland brothers of islam and start feeding your people and helping your country to become a country. We even 'though Somalia did horrible things to Somaliland, Allah will judge them on that' love all our Islam brothers and sister in Somalia or else were just because Allah wants us to be better people and to be good to everybody. But please please stop hating and trying to terroris Somaliland. That will never work because Allah dont like the unjust.
May Allah bring peace to all the Islam people who have good hearts, and may Allah make the unjust peoples lives hard and also in the here after. Amin
@Abdi123
I know we are veering away and off topic to be discussing deities and gods in a political forum, but this maybe helpful to enlighten you about Waaq and about the fact that he was the ancestral god of all Somalis before Islam http://www.redsea-online.com/modules.php?name=New…
I want to say sorry by the way if I came hursh to some people. I change my dua to: May Allah bless and change the hearts of all Somalis (including Somaliland, Ogadenia, Puntand etc…..) to become better people and better Muslims inshallah. Salamucalaykum brothers and sisters of Islam
Wacha Jambazi wewe mjinga wa Nairobi hauna mbele ama nyuma you sold your soul to the devil, VIVA SOMALILAND.
Somaliland is here to stay and no one can divide us from North Pole to Abyss, sorry for wasting your time and energy concentrating on our young democracy, we shall never be intimidated by no one we won our independence in bravery and God is our witness, we will build a prosperous country RULED by LAW loved by their people under one flag, VIVA SOMALILAND, SOMALILAND HANOOLATO.
Firstly, it must be said the transitional government needs to be either shaken up – making it more effective or dismantled all together due to its lengthy idleness and corruption. Somalia needs to be strong again, all parts of it working together as the world is not what it was before.
Furthermore, I believe the outcome of this London conference will not bring any progression for Somalia and its people; as only Somali's can dictate Somalia's future which has been proven – time after time.
The people of Somalia need to fight off the Al-Shabaab, with the help of less intrusive foreign countries such as Turkey, only then will Somalia become peaceful, also the US, UK and EU must not be relied upon. For 20 long, bloody and not to mention dire times, Somali blood has been shed, our country has been broken into weak pieces such as Puntland and Somaliland. We are a unique kind, blessed by Allah almighty to be muslim, and Somali with one tongue in a beautiful part of Africa. Why should be separate each other even further? What you should think about even more is why should the north of Somalia adapt to the borders the kaafir made in order to colonise Somali for their own gain?
I understand that in the past many people of the north were killed unfairly, however Somaliland is currently stable, but have you asked yourselves the question what meaningful progress has it made? In order to make a real differencce, countries must recognize a nation, and by recognize I mean fully-fledged, not the 50/50 Somaliland is recieving right now.
I fully agree with the article writer on the topic of the TFG's leaders, however to every fact there's something deeper which makes it even more true. Those leaders are where they are due to their ineffectiveness, not by chance. They are mere puppets of the evil which is causing Somalia to be in the situation it is.
Lastly, this part is aimed at Yusuf Dirir. Could you imagine the progess a collected and strong Somalia would make? The past cannot even scratch the surface of the advantages, as right now people are dying, and have been for 20 years, no foreigner can help us, only we can save ourselves. Somaliland has been campaigning for independence for a decade yet the coloniser which created british Somaliland hasn't recognised it. Puntland in all honesty is just a pirate filled, corruption hell hole and the less said about the south the better. The quarreling between Puntland and Somaliland is laughable and it must be understood by us that Somaliland can make a difference to the south.
Wake up my people, Ethiopia and the US don't want a strong Somalia, but since when did we Somalis listen to outsiders let alone allow them to have their way?
I didn't get your point, that is the problem we (Somalilanders) are having with you guys from Somalia. You must be confused and politically lost after listening to all the confusing Waloweeyn debates about the London conference on Somalia. Please go and wash your face with cold water, no body here cares about the TFG and Puntland, we are exclusively talking about Somaliland. If you haven't got anything positive to contribute please go to the Somalia websites.
This is the exact reason why Somaliland's movement is zero. People like you who refuse to take in information, selfish self-loving people. Somaliland will not gain recognition whatsoever, so your President can keep flying to dusty Ethiopia thinking its the US.
'selfish self loving people'??? wallal there is something wrong with your memory. explain to me what happened in the 80's. go research/ figure it out and then come back to this website.
'somaliland movement is zero'–erm.. excuse me have you seen the state of zoomalia?? hate to break it to u but somaliland is gone and will never come back. i suggest u should go help ur own people starving to death instead of bashing somaliland. hater.
Malick, the problem with you guys is that you lost confidence in yourselves and your leaders ability to deliver, and all of you came to the conclusion that Somalia can not exist without Somaliland. Dispite, the fact that Somalilanders the legs, arms, and glue that was holding Somalia together as power brokers, shakers and movers that was driving the logistsics, operations, and the management of country, we are not joined on hips. Have confidence yourselves, ability, and learn from Somaliland and do the same instead crying after Somaliland for 20 something years. Because Somaliland has long gone and will never come back to a union. Somalia can stand strong if you people try to bring together the most educated and intellectual people instead of warlords, Macallin Qurans, and terrorists. Somaliland and Somalia can exist as two separate sisterly countries, living side by side in peace.
THANKYOU@ ABDIYARE, TELLING THOSE PRETEDERS TO SHUT IT:'(
Its simple. 3.5 Million Somalis in Somaliland. This means it needs its own manpower. Somalia cannot ask Somaliland to give up everything for just Mogadishu. That is dumb. Those who do want Somalia can go but the very small population is needed. Full stop. Somalia needs help that is why Amisom, Kenya and Ethiopia are their but Somaliland isn't going to leave its post to prop up Mogadishu. Especially not after they learnt their grave error from the past. Somalia wants to hold the Isaaq and in some respects the Somalilanders to ransom to build them whilst they get naada or very little. That is what is at play.
Puntland is just living of the umberla of Somaliland. Just like Djobouti did. I wouldn't be suprised if Puntland is attempting to cut and run just like Djibouti did. They are both very under hand when it comes to setting Somalia and Somaliland against one another whilst they cut more then the share.
What kind of T imo Jar eer name is K ombe? Dont get me started on the rest! My folks are from yemen warya and folks over there know the history that your trying to claim you x a ar shoveling mofo ohh wait thats what you ancestor did!
Keep talking, I can bring out books written by others about just who you come from!
ComeAgain walal isku xishood horta do you know you are insulting a whole somali qabiil when you talk like that. I see some Somalilanders resulting to name calling and insult and is not right at all even if we have different political ideas and are on each other's throughts. Re-reading this thread makes me feel like what the hell is wrong with Somalis. For us, no one can make us join Somalia so let's not over react with people who are glued to us and are barking after us
Somaliland was a truck carrying all other Somalis from South for nearly 30 years. When the Head disconnected from the trailer, the result is it becomes stagnant. But the tractor unit is moving, and that is thew scenario of Somaliland and Somalia. Our forefathers who joined with the Southern Somalia were all british trained and had education from UK university, unlike their souther counterpart who just had formal education. Our way of life and culture was different from Somalia. All those years we never had any communication with them, only after independence. When we joined them than we came to know their way of life and their true identity and colour. Italians are mafians, Britsh never colonised Somaliland but only protecting it. Italians were bad colonser in Somalia. History is known hwo he mistreated Somalis. Even crossing rivers they will be carried. They did not have the confidence like the Somaliland people. Whatever you write or say Somalilnad is foregone case whether is recognised or not it is not our concerned. But one day recognition will knock on the doors of Somaliland
Hi all
Seriously, we are all from one area of Somaliland or the land of the Somalis. Whether that happens to be in the south or north of Somalia does not matter. The fact that certain white men colonized one region or another of our country is irrelevant. At the end of the day, while the white men are still stealing our fish our children are hungry.
Unity is strength. Separatism and division weakens our society. Forget your foolish pride and don't be hung on whose ancestor come from where. I don't care much about tribalism and I will not engage in tribal insults. It is known fact that each tribe in Somalia claims that their ancestral father crossed over from Arabia in one fashion or the other. However, we all know that most Arabs who come to Somalia these days are either terrorists or misfits. Also, as many of you have already mentioned, every Yemeni worth his cent will tell you about the checkered past of the most Arab ancestral fathers revered by Somalis. Let us all move forward and live in the present as one people.
Seriously, we are all from one area of Somaliland or the land of the Somalis or the other .. that is
m.ali, not only did they (Italians) mistreated Somalia, rumour has it that they used make them lay flat on the river and step on the Somalis bodies to cross the river. Besides, the South Somalis adapted the Italian mafia ways and that is what we observed them doing at their home front as well as abroad. My God, I have been interpreting for these people for quite some time now. You can't imagine the things they are capable of doing and I said to myself: Illaahayow, ma kuwanaa raba in mar kale lagu soo biira? No way!
LMaooooo@Gobaad waaa daadqaal walalo, they will eat you alive if it came to it and they nearly did that to us but we made run for it.
Allah they dont even think about their women and children
Im not Somali, and in all honesty I believe the last thing Somalia needs now is separatism. Children are dying, and in all honesty all you Somalis seem to be intrested in is clan rivalry and splitting into weaker entities.
Look at North Korea and South Korea, one is a puppet of the US, the other a poor, corruption riddled dust-bowl. At the end of the day, Somalia is nothing to the US unless it has 80 trillion barrels of oil, so instead of looking for recognition, recognize yourself as being in a country which is recognized.
Now, I understand this is a Somaliland news website, but the facts cannot be denied, you both need each other!
@ Kelal
Obviously you do not understand the geopolitics of Somalia and Somaliland. therefore, you better educate yourself on this subject before you dive in and make ridiculous comments. By the way, could you tell us where you from?.
@Kelal
Thank you very much for your honest comment and input. Do not mind the defensive posture of the above writer. The mind of many folks in Somalia has stagnated and is completely consumed by tribalism. Reaching the hearts of these separatists and move them away from their clannish ways is as tough as pressing at a stone or even tougher.
moving them that is
@ Allemagan imposter,
After failing in all other ways, you began calling yourself Kelal. That is very, very sad. Please go and ditch yourself in the rubbish pin.
I don't understand your point, and struggle to believe that someone like you, who tells people to ''Please go and ditch yourself in the rubbish pin''. I am not an imposter, I am me. Please find something positive to do in life as your accusations are false aswell spelt incorrectly. If you want to talk politics, I'm fine with it, I have an International Relations degree – I'm not here to argue over the internet.
interesting thread. Weird names I've never met anyone who says I'm kaplalax not sure if they meant to be sub clan names. But one thing I agree with Allmegan is waaq is somali ancient god. Somalis were pagan before Islam and they had several dieties and waaq was one of them. In fact in our culture the word waaq appears in many words look at barwaago, waqoyi etc some people say waqooyi means waaq hoyday (god went to sleep or went away) referring to the sun when it goes down. Anways this is irrelevant to the topic
Somaliland will not join Somalia again because we have learnt our mistake through the hard way and we paid a great price, and you know what none of them feel any remorse or even acknowldege it. We are the same ethnic people but we have different attitude to life and Somalia has violent attitude. We are not willing to join Somalia and their violent attitude again. The safety and well-being of our people is most important to us.
I love how faqash come on a Somaliland site and put fake names and say they are not somali but against separation and continue to put up the same tired arguments as the faqash!
Focus on not starving mo f o dont worry about what we do!
@ Malick
By saying “For 20 long, bloody and not to mention dire times, Somali blood has been shed..” you had unwittingly confessed that Somaliland is not part of Somalia. Because Somaliland blood was shed long before that 20-year period you have said and repeatedly being said in the media these days. You are all saying this because you know deep inside you that Somaliland was and is not part of the so-called Somalia. Naked hypocrisy!
“why should the north of Somalia adapt to the borders the kaafir made in order to colonise Somali for their own gain?”
Then, the Somalia borders too are made by the very kaafir, then why quest for it? Naked hypocrisy!
…to be continued
And thank you for saying the truth about the PIRATELAND. They are bent on keeping Somaliland not recognized and hence their claim for Sool and east Sanaag region. For your info they are (and had succeed relatively) bent on having full control on the so-called Somalia. Somalia needs to be vigilant about these Pirates instead of focusing on bringing Somaliland back to the failed union.
“…it must be understood by us that Somaliland can make a difference to the south.” But we have tried this before and it’s absurd to request us to do it again. Bye-bye pal we are gone for no return.
“Wake up my people, Ethiopia and the US don't want a strong Somalia, but since when did we Somalis listen to outsiders let alone allow them to have their way?”
Ironically it’s the Somalia people who are doing so, yet the plea is directed at Somalilanders. Naked hypocrisy!
Amal walalo your right, but sometimes omg I just gotta…….
For all the people saying dont these people know that there is an afterlife. Let me put it to you this way, you have to believe in Allah and the hereafter to fear it,hence they dont! Which is why they can go about doing what they are doing for the past 30 years. They are all gaalo straight up, what muslim man is going to sit there an watch his family starve and still have time to talk about Somaliland?
Everyone see how he (all) back tracks when I tell him where he comes from…..back up warya……dont cross me I am not the one. You might pull that stuff on some non yemeni somalis but there are some of us on here.
Retract and Repent! Or I will scan and put your whole family tree from different arab sources online for everyone to see!
