UDUB Party calls for delay in election results

June 30, 2010   ·   10 Comments

HARGEISA (Somalilandpress) — The ruling party of Somaliland has asked electoral officials to delay announcing results of Saturday’s presidential poll, saying there were “huge irregularities” in the vote.

Officials from the UDUB party warned Wednesday that if the election commission announces the results, it could lead to instability that could jeopardize Somaliland’s security.

The breakaway republic held its first presidential poll in seven years Saturday, more than two years after the term of President Dahir Riyale Kahin expired.

The region’s electoral commission has yet to release any results. The president’s party says the results should be withheld until its complaints are investigated.

Earlier, the European Union called for the votes to be counted quickly, and urged all parties to accept the outcome.

Somaliland declared its independence from the rest of Somalia in 1991, but is not recognized by the international community.

Saturday’s poll was a contest between President Riyale and two challengers, Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo and Faisal Ali Warabe. Slightly more than 1 million Somaliland residents were eligible to vote.

International observers said the election was mostly free and fair but noted some irregularities, such as underage voting and active campaigning by government workers for President Riyale.

A militia killed four people at a polling station near the contested border between Somaliland and Somalia’s semi-autonomous Puntland region.

Udub has lost what little dignity they had left with the Somaliland people. Thank ALaah we have a strong and independent NEC that will do the right thing.

Kulmiye in the mean time needs to be patient and anu la qasan udub hooligans, since they have the full mandate and support of the people behind them…Isha Alaah Khayre..

Kulmiye has to remain cool and ignore UDUB khaat talk.

I advice Mr Siranyo to also dismiss Saleban Gaal after he takes office. Mr Gaal like his name is the most corrupted elder in the history of Somaliland. If you are related to this old man please advice him to step down with dignity.

UDUB and Saleban Gaal wasted 9 years from Somaliland. If Mr Siranyo does not dismiss this old corrupted warlord from the Guurti, something is wrong with him too. However I am confident Mr Siranyo will fix the whole Guurti and government.

      1) Dismiss Gaal
      2) Build new Madaxtooyo out side the urban area with better security
      3) Review the army, recount all the men in uniform, i am confident we have no more than 6000 men while Rayale government claims 20,000 and gives 60% of the budget, the truth is he pays 6000 and keeps the rest of the 90% of the so called 60% for defense.

Rebuild the army and police, make Caynaba the main Somaliland defense center for Eastern regions, it takes long time to reach Sool and Sanag from Hargeisa or Burao.

Udub called fo delay in election results that's exactly what I've been expecting from Riyale's Party. But this time they are going to HELL and nobody will listen them. They destroyed this blessing country for 8 years long and there is no way they will come back. Remember, brave Somalilanders will DEVEND as they did to Afweyne's Regime.

UDUB lost by more than 60,000 votes. All the people in Hargeisa know it and UDUB is confused they are in lala-land. Finally their marduuf has gone sour, they just woke up. They didnt release the public do not like them at all.

I am surprised they still got some votes, if you voted for them, your either getting free khaat or few shilling, which one did you get?

We have to welcome President Ahmed Mohamoud Mohamed Silanyo.

Back to Borama Mr Rayale, useless long neck.

The latest news from Hargeisa say Rayale denied the press release UDUB issued last night. He confirmed to local press he would step down and accept the decision of the NEC.

It looks like Mr Rayale is on strings like puppeteers and someone tried to pull one of the strings but it back fired. UDUB party is in total disarray.

    Good news!

Somebody leaked the election results couple of days ago and was post at Hadhwanaagnews. Kulmiye Party was leading in a large margin which shows that Kulmiye won this election in a LANDSLIDE, no question about it.

So, if Riyaale has an ounce of dignity left in him, he doesn't have to be a sore-thumb prolong the results or create a problem that is not there. He should accept the results, stepdown and congratulate Mr. Silaayo like Mr. Silaayo did in the last election. Sidaasay sharaftu ku jirtaa, haddii kale surka dheer soo qabta oo ka soo jiida Madaxtooyada!

Damn, the cliff-hanger is over. It is going to be alright. There is a press conference from Riyaale today. He apologized to the Somaliland people and said will accept the final results. Check Somaliland.org website.
