LAS ANOD — Three people including traders died instantly in an accident which occurred in Balatul Amin district in Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region.

According to eyewitnesses the accident, which left two others injured, occurred on Tuesday morning near the town of Wanlaweyn, some 97-km Northwest of Mogadishu.

The lorry was carrying fruits and vegetables from the newly-liberated agricultural town of Afgoye and was heading to Somaliland’s capital, Hargeisa.

Eyewitnesses said the truck lost direction and veered off road before overturning. They added the injured, said to be two women, were rushed to hospitals in Mogadishu.

Until now it is not clear if the passengers hail from Somaliland or Somalia.

Somaliland imports most of its fresh fruits and vegetables from Somalia or Ethiopia including bananas, mangoes and apples.
