Their relatives can visit plus they can practice their Muslim religion freely in Somaliand.
Those are very convincing points but there're risks involved in accepting a huge number of inmates for a country that does have a number disadvantages resulted by economic constrains due to a luck of international recognition, civil unrest in south, terrorism from all directions and piracy activities in the sea.

Somalilad can't support with insignificant assistance from the international donors on feeding, clothing, legal proceedings, resources and even up keeping the prison itself to the international standards. Thus, Somaliland should ask for more from the international donors not strictly a support for housing the inmates but also an immediate international recognition for somaliland so we get on our lives.
I'd start with Seychelles first because they're using us as a friend of benefits by accepting their garbage humans.

This is BS. I am against this so called pirate exchange programme. This is totally illegal and ordinary Somalilanders will not accept their country to become a dumping ground for West's problems. Next they will dump chemical waste, terrorists, rapists and drug addicts.

We can not accept this and Somalilanders have to stomp the so called prison and free those pirates and let them return back to their normal lives in Puntland. They are ordinary fishermen and this act damages relations between Somalilanders and the Somali people in particular in Puntland.

Somaliland investors, traders and business community has to protest and stop paying taxes via Berbera port and take all their activities to Bosasso port until they reverse their decision.

This is not our business. This is West's problem who are over fishing Somali waters, forcing Puntland fishermen out off business, and those in Galmudug region.

As Somalis our priority should always be with the interests of Somalis.

This Silanyo administration is shameless and must be punished.

  3. osman5 says:

    Kayse,

    Berbera Vs Bosaso…hmmmm
Let me explain something to you for the sake of simplicity if I may:

Berbera is situated in a country where democracy flourishes and it's citizens apply a rule of law as a norm .
On the other hand, however, Bosaso to my knowledge is located a land where a piracy and tribalism vested in a huge scale.
So, please start your dialogue by trying in comparing apples with apples, instead of comparing apples with an fruit that's not known to man yet..

Sorry! if I burst your bubbles..

      • osman5 says:

There're no Khatumo or Awdal states that know of. They're both in somaliland's territories and their citizens are proud somalilanders. Calling them states is a federal felony, you should not believe for 100% everything you gathered from the mass media, there're a lot of misleading reports out there.

  6. Abraham says:

These pirates are better off locked up in Somaliland. They should thank the Somaliland government for their generosity. Somalia should ask other countries like Korea and India to do the same and send their Somali convicts to Somaliland.

  7. Kayse says:

Don't worry guys there is no Kayse impersonator, it is me and no one can walk in my shoes no matter how much those sons of warlords, pirates and dhaqash try.

I am just saying its dangerous game to invite foreigners to meddle in our affairs. Our prison and law system should only serve those who committed crimes on our soil. We should let the rich West who are looting Somali resources worry about their piracy ordeals.

Somaliland should be an example to other Somalis and we shouldn't go against other Somalis. Somaliland is a friend of Somalis, a safe heaven for Somalis but when you lock up fellow Somalis whom you dont even know whether they are innocent fishermen or criminals for the sack of few dollars from UK—your playing with fire.

Right now Puntland pirates are holding Somaliland cargo ship carrying goods worth $20m in Puntland region, the UK gov is only giving Somaliland no more than $500k for this———-is $500k worth over $20m from your local traders?

This is what I am worried about. This is an exploitation by the West. We will not become a dumping ground for all their problems and trash.

Somalilanders have to formally protest. Somaliland business elites must switch ports.

    • saalim abdi says:

I did know berbera port dock goods worth
$20m at one shippment who They trade to
Population it’s not That big,or it’s… MYTH, exploitation by The west it’s The
Name of The game whether you like it or Not,oom,i was wondering s/l business*** Elites which other port They could….. Switch to,There’s only one port no….. Resources to build another port, first Need to get recognition currently it’s Very very faaaaaaaaar away if not ever.

  8. abdirahman barre says:

    keyse

we are doing favour for these somali pirates , they pleaded to be held in somaliland prisons .

    • ali ali says:

May be naaso hablood addministration Should start correction department or Prison business, since s/l don’t any…. Resources, manafacturing export, man power

    • ali ali says:

May be naaso hablood addministration Should start correction department or Prison business, since s/l don’t have Any Resources, manafacturing export, man power, it’s good idea.

  9. I Jama says:

I agree with kayse. Somaliland has beeen more then helpfull why should it go against other Somalis. Unless we are being used to disrupt others issues whilst not given recognistion. Somalilane should have nothing to do with other regions unless the west and africans give us recognition. Until then they are all showing us how to fight one another rather then help each other. Which I am against? Somalis mean more to me then any false suppot by the rest of the world. Munaafiqiin.

  10. osman5 says:

    Kayse,
Every thing has it's own risk whether it's good or bad, but a fear a shouldn't a factor from doing what one desires.

I agreed that accepting alleged pirates from Seychelles to Mandera prison perhaps is not the best interest for Somaliland, but again we don't know all details as to what has inspired our government to sign a deal with Seychelles to transfer Somali inmates to Somaliland. We're only speculating here,
even the news makers didn't know that much about it if they did, it would not be a news it'd be a classified information of which should be kept secret.

Nevertheless, I'm appalled and sadden at your remarks as you tried to compare Berbera with Bosaso that I can't agree with you no matter how you slice it..

    Osman Qaal

  11. Libax says:

    Hi,
The so-calle country somaliland border is not clear. There are several states now: Katuma state, Awdal state, Salel state and somaliland state.

  12. Ali Dheere says:

I am not a big fun of rehabilitating other peoples convicts unless something strategic is attached to it. However, not knowing the details of what is the attachment, I will give the government a pass and hope that something good comes out of this deal.

    @Kayse,
Switching taxes from Berbera to Bosasso will hurt Somaliland and benefit Puntland. Don't you think so?
