HARGEISA (SomalilandPress)—The government of Somaliland and the State of Kuwait have signed an agreement in which Kuwait will fund the renovation and rehabilitation of both Egal International Airport in Hargeisa and Berbera International Airports. Kuwait will fund this project approximately with ten million dollars, with the understanding that they will manage the allocation of the funds.

During a press briefing in his office Aviation Minister Mr. Mohamud Hashi Abdi informed SomalilandPress that “Kuwaiti government will fund the renovating of Hargeisa and Berbera Airports with the exception that Kuwaiti Fund that is owned by the State of Kuwait will manage the allocation of the funds and contracting”. To elaborate further Minister Abdi said “we agreed to this term with Kuwait because we would like to have transparent with all donor funds, rather than say gives us the money, we are saying help us build infrastructure”. When the project is completed Kuwaiti Fund will turn the complete project back to Somaliland government.

After these two projects are completed it is expected to cater for some of the world’s biggest commercial jets and ultimately drive air traffic growth in the region both inbound and outbound. Both Airports are currently hub for passengers traveling between Somaliland and Somali.

This is not the first time that the State of Kuwait has funded projects in Somaliland, earlier this year the Kuwaiti Royal family has funded the upgrading of Sheikh Hospital. The hospital is located in the same city where the Kuwaiti emir has built a modern luxury villa in the outskirt of the city.

Kuwait is the pearl of Khaleej Al-Arabi, and they help those who need help and can manage to do it properly all over the world. Good job done by the Minister of Aviation & Transport who negotiated ths deal. He has shown statesmanship and avoided like many african states to say give us the money we shall do it, while they pocked most of that donations.

The people of Kuwait are the forefront of this kind of help and they have been helping the people of Somaliland since we have reclaimed our statehood. Thanks to them and we still look forward to get substantial infrusturecture undertaking in Somaliland.

God bless State of Kuwait and its people. They are return the goodness of Somaliland people's help during the bad days of this area. They use to come to Berbera and we use to treat them nicesly. They remember that [at least the old people remember that].

When Iraq invaded Kuwait and most of the kuwaiti men fihgting or left the country and most of their Arab brothers starting looting and taking advantage of women, Somalilanders men were helping the women and children left behind. And perhaps, Kuwaitis have never forgotten that and the story of an air-controller, a young man (A/rahman Nero – Allah ha u naxariiste) who happened to be a Somalilander took the initiatives to ground all Kuwaiti commerical airlines around the world until further notice. Thus, saving lots of airlines which could have been destoryed by the Iraqis and millions of dollars for the Kuwaiti government. They realized that Somalilanders are dignity and good people with high morals.

The Amir own a land there before the 1990 when he was foreign minister , unlike other counties leaders they go to Swiss, Spain, etc.
Matter fact two places he said he like to visit Oman and Somalia (he like fishing too).

Also that villa is not that luxurious for an Amir actually it's very modest and look like beach house than a villa .

Do you know around 2005 Somali President visited Kuwait and Amir promised him to rebuild Somalia if all group sat on table and agree to stop fighting and start nation building.

To bad you information of the very old relation between Somalia & Kuwait goes back more than 200 years. try to visit website somaliatoday for more info.

Sick people are always the same [whatever they say] That is for SAA.
Secondly people of Kuwait and their government are well-known to help the people who are in need. They help by teaching people to fish themselves instead of giving them fish. They always help the right way, and I am pleased that our government has agreed that they [Kuwaitis] to direct the project until finished and then handed over to the government of Somaliland. Furthermore, the area that the ruling family have built the house or Palace whatever, was their's well before Somaliland has re-claimed its statehood. The only place in Somaliland were every household has a tap water is Sheikh Town, and this family has controbuted this noble task. Make no mistakes those of you who are unti-Somaliland that State of Kuwait helps those whom they see helping themselves.

Just look there is another Gulf Country who are contributing the problem of the Horn of Africa by training the those who are undermining the stability of the Horn. What a difference! I praise the country of Kuwait, not only they have given us small amount of money, but their ability to see where the help is needed and who needs and can benefit of it.

The new Technocratic Somaliland Govt. is engaged in developing the national resources of the
country and for such purposes also engaged in attracting the globalised free world to participate
in the development projects. If Kuwait is the first Arab GCC to respond and hopefully the other
GCC will follow suit to emulate the steps of Kuwait…that sounds future strong political footholds
for the AL in the affairs of the East African Countries. Was it Kuwait or Qatar who has good
business relations with Ethiopia??. Needless to say. Praiseworthy goes to the Aviation Minister
for showing good results in such a short period in office.

I had from a brother in Puntland that the trainning of the so called "anti Pirate force" by Saracens was also funded by Kuwaitis. Anyone know if this is true? It is believable to me since my source is someone close to the ground in Garowe.

     Reply
    • Jimcaale says:

who knows. You could be right. GCC politics is extremely complicated and dirty. They could be trying to disarm the situation before the name of the mysterious "Muslim Country" is revealed, it could have been an honest mistake on their part for trusting the PL administration (who was accused by the UN for taking money from the privates) or they could be plain INNOCENT. Allah(swt) knows best. However, since we don't know, we should take their actions at face value. They have contributed generously before, built a hospital, shown love for the people of SL and now they wish to continue. So may Allah(swt) reward them for their good deeds according to their intentions. The correct view is to give someone with a good track record the benefit of the doubt. i.e. good credit with SL lol

I wanna thank the Anir and the generous ppl off Kuwait for the support they are giving to my ppl in Somaliland. For those who do not know the generosity of the Kuwaiti people, have a look at UAE or the famous Dubai city….. back in the 70’s it was Kuwait that provided the airports, schoolsm hospitals and hell even the books we use to study here in UAE was from Kuwait. As a matter of fact the first color TV in Dubai was build by Kuwait in 77/78 that was a little history for the ignorant brothers and sisters who do know real facts. The other fact that I wanna share is, so what if Kuwaiti people help us arn;t they our Muslim brothers if it was American or British nobody would have objected, rather some of you would have been proud of it…… we need to change and live out the tight box we are living in then maybe we can go forward….. salaam
