HARGEISA (SomalilandPress)—The government of Somaliland and the State of Kuwait have signed an agreement in which Kuwait will fund the renovation and rehabilitation of both Egal International Airport in Hargeisa and Berbera International Airports. Kuwait will fund this project approximately with ten million dollars, with the understanding that they will manage the allocation of the funds.
During a press briefing in his office Aviation Minister Mr. Mohamud Hashi Abdi informed SomalilandPress that “Kuwaiti government will fund the renovating of Hargeisa and Berbera Airports with the exception that Kuwaiti Fund that is owned by the State of Kuwait will manage the allocation of the funds and contracting”. To elaborate further Minister Abdi said “we agreed to this term with Kuwait because we would like to have transparent with all donor funds, rather than say gives us the money, we are saying help us build infrastructure”. When the project is completed Kuwaiti Fund will turn the complete project back to Somaliland government.

After these two projects are completed it is expected to cater for some of the world’s biggest commercial jets and ultimately drive air traffic growth in the region both inbound and outbound. Both Airports are currently hub for passengers traveling between Somaliland and Somali.

This is not the first time that the State of Kuwait has funded projects in Somaliland, earlier this year the Kuwaiti Royal family has funded the upgrading of Sheikh Hospital. The hospital is located in the same city where the Kuwaiti emir has built a modern luxury villa in the outskirt of the city.

This is a great news and further progress to our country. This government is really moving fast and making up for time lost by the former government. Good job guys. We are happy to see things are finally moving forward.
And thanks our Kuwaiti brothers and hope that others will come around sooner or late.
Many thanks to Kuweit Government , a true brother gives a care when a need exist.

waa been this isanother lie like the one udub said the chinnes are gunna build a airport
Kuwait is the pearl of Khaleej Al-Arabi, and they help those who need help and can manage to do it properly all over the world. Good job done by the Minister of Aviation & Transport who negotiated ths deal. He has shown statesmanship and avoided like many african states to say give us the money we shall do it, while they pocked most of that donations.
The people of Kuwait are the forefront of this kind of help and they have been helping the people of Somaliland since we have reclaimed our statehood. Thanks to them and we still look forward to get substantial infrusturecture undertaking in Somaliland.
God bless State of Kuwait and its people. They are return the goodness of Somaliland people's help during the bad days of this area. They use to come to Berbera and we use to treat them nicesly. They remember that [at least the old people remember that].
When Iraq invaded Kuwait and most of the kuwaiti men fihgting or left the country and most of their Arab brothers starting looting and taking advantage of women, Somalilanders men were helping the women and children left behind. And perhaps, Kuwaitis have never forgotten that and the story of an air-controller, a young man (A/rahman Nero – Allah ha u naxariiste) who happened to be a Somalilander took the initiatives to ground all Kuwaiti commerical airlines around the world until further notice. Thus, saving lots of airlines which could have been destoryed by the Iraqis and millions of dollars for the Kuwaiti government. They realized that Somalilanders are dignity and good people with high morals.
Also the young people. They learned it from the old people : )
Haha i could not stop laughing after i read the Emir renovated a hospital. I was like mashallah very nice of him but then i read he built an expensive villa i bet he was like "this land is beautyful but if something happend to me i need state of the art treatment better build or renovate a hospital "
Everyone thinks about people the way he think…
This is just show how ignorant you are.
The Amir own a land there before the 1990 when he was foreign minister , unlike other counties leaders they go to Swiss, Spain, etc.
Matter fact two places he said he like to visit Oman and Somalia (he like fishing too).
Also that villa is not that luxurious for an Amir actually it's very modest and look like beach house than a villa .
Do you know around 2005 Somali President visited Kuwait and Amir promised him to rebuild Somalia if all group sat on table and agree to stop fighting and start nation building.
To bad you information of the very old relation between Somalia & Kuwait goes back more than 200 years. try to visit website somaliatoday for more info.
I hope that SL will turn into a regional flight hub. If that happends it will become so much more easier to attract investors and THATS what SL and Africa needs. Infrastructure is the key to develop SL after Education
Sick people are always the same [whatever they say] That is for SAA.
Secondly people of Kuwait and their government are well-known to help the people who are in need. They help by teaching people to fish themselves instead of giving them fish. They always help the right way, and I am pleased that our government has agreed that they [Kuwaitis] to direct the project until finished and then handed over to the government of Somaliland. Furthermore, the area that the ruling family have built the house or Palace whatever, was their's well before Somaliland has re-claimed its statehood. The only place in Somaliland were every household has a tap water is Sheikh Town, and this family has controbuted this noble task. Make no mistakes those of you who are unti-Somaliland that State of Kuwait helps those whom they see helping themselves.
Just look there is another Gulf Country who are contributing the problem of the Horn of Africa by training the those who are undermining the stability of the Horn. What a difference! I praise the country of Kuwait, not only they have given us small amount of money, but their ability to see where the help is needed and who needs and can benefit of it.
what you all dont know that the two project is already starting
even egal airport in hargeisa is shutdown because of this ,
so all you haers can piss off

Did You say regional hub? I was just reading the BBC Somaliland pirated transit plane with military clothes that stoped to refuel. We will see if anyone will land again.
Boqoljire
man no one from kuwait is reading here stop it You are embarrassing every somali. say thanks only and that will do.
You are wrong Kuwaiti do read what he wrote ;-)
The new Technocratic Somaliland Govt. is engaged in developing the national resources of the
country and for such purposes also engaged in attracting the globalised free world to participate
in the development projects. If Kuwait is the first Arab GCC to respond and hopefully the other
GCC will follow suit to emulate the steps of Kuwait…that sounds future strong political footholds
for the AL in the affairs of the East African Countries. Was it Kuwait or Qatar who has good
business relations with Ethiopia??. Needless to say. Praiseworthy goes to the Aviation Minister
for showing good results in such a short period in office.
Cheers.
I had from a brother in Puntland that the trainning of the so called "anti Pirate force" by Saracens was also funded by Kuwaitis. Anyone know if this is true? It is believable to me since my source is someone close to the ground in Garowe.
who knows. You could be right. GCC politics is extremely complicated and dirty. They could be trying to disarm the situation before the name of the mysterious "Muslim Country" is revealed, it could have been an honest mistake on their part for trusting the PL administration (who was accused by the UN for taking money from the privates) or they could be plain INNOCENT. Allah(swt) knows best. However, since we don't know, we should take their actions at face value. They have contributed generously before, built a hospital, shown love for the people of SL and now they wish to continue. So may Allah(swt) reward them for their good deeds according to their intentions. The correct view is to give someone with a good track record the benefit of the doubt. i.e. good credit with SL lol
My bad for the typo. It's PIRATES not privates lool
The Saracens story scandal is ripping apart amongst the Somalia TFG and the Puntland
Region of Somalia. There is much confusion going on between the the new PM Farmmajo, the TFG
Parliment concerning the Saracens scandal and other issues concerning the Mogadishu Airport
renovation. Allegations of funding is now redirected to the UAE!. All eyes are now focused on
what will come out of the final investigation of the Saracen Arms deal Scandal for Puntland.
Cheers.
I do not believe anything written, until action is shown, what happened to Chines companies that supposedly to build the same airports? Action speaks louder than words. we want to see actions please, then show us the real pictures.
Somaliland ma dad uun bay baryaysaa? Stop asking for help. How can you became a county if you can not build anything.
Jama, Somaliland ma baryootamay. The nake eye can see, we are working hard to resurrect from the destruction cause by the rest of Somalis and they want to help. What is wrong with that? Adigase xaasidnimo iyo uurxuno aad Somaliland u qabto ayaa ka hadlinaysa. So why don't you take a dip into the sea and drown in your venom!
You can not build something out of NOTHING. You need money and materials to start somewhere.
I don't believe it either.so much said before became completely untrue so action speaks louder than words.we see it we believe then we thank them jazakumullah aqeys.
I wish this story was true. If its true thank to Kuwait government. Somalia is one
Kuwait is friendly country and a friend of Somaliland but we will see if this story is true. The government has lied many times in the past, we will wait and see. Right now we will not put our hopes up but modern airports are crucial to Somaliland growth and the region.
Whether true or not, Kuwait already provides millions to Somaliland. Much appreciated.

There are currently 5 part mini episodes posted online. All are surprisingly in HD. If nothing else you are guaranteed a good laugh.
Lets hope these projects materialize. We heard enough lies before.
Do not look to gift by it’s mouth…
I wanna thank the Anir and the generous ppl off Kuwait for the support they are giving to my ppl in Somaliland. For those who do not know the generosity of the Kuwaiti people, have a look at UAE or the famous Dubai city….. back in the 70’s it was Kuwait that provided the airports, schoolsm hospitals and hell even the books we use to study here in UAE was from Kuwait. As a matter of fact the first color TV in Dubai was build by Kuwait in 77/78 that was a little history for the ignorant brothers and sisters who do know real facts. The other fact that I wanna share is, so what if Kuwaiti people help us arn;t they our Muslim brothers if it was American or British nobody would have objected, rather some of you would have been proud of it…… we need to change and live out the tight box we are living in then maybe we can go forward….. salaam
People don't do anything for free!!!
There must be a reason behind this, my brothers and sisters just think why would they wanna do this suddenly?
There is to many stuff about the somalians now a days in the news. All I've got to say is there goes Somalia/Somaliland :-(
I'would love to see Somaliland build up etc, but by our own people. America must be behind this as usual.
Bloody freemasons.
Hmmm
So, What's in it for Kuwait?
