Captain Sacid recieves a certificate of merit and appreciation from SONYO chairman

Hargeisa, July 18 – The Somaliland National Youth Organization (SONYO) on Tuesday recognized Sacid Adan Abdi, a young military captain who scoped top honors in an Ethiopian military academy to become the first Somaliland military officer to scope straight A’s in the Bachelor of Military Science and Leaders at the Combined Army Academy in Awash, Ethiopia.

Captian Sacid, who was among 50 Somaliland officers and dozens of other Ethiopian officers undertaking the same course, has also been decorated with a gold medal by Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and Somaliland President Siilanyo. SONYO also recognized the efforts of Somaliland’s Chief of Staff General Ismail Mohamed Shaqale and the nations Minister of Defence Ahmed Haji Ali Adami in whose dockets Captain Sacid serves.

In a luncheon jointly hosted in his favor at Hargeisa’s Maan Soor hotel by SONYO and Hargeisa Global Citizens Corps (GCC), a youth group under the USAID funded Somalia Youth Leaders Initiative (SYLI) implemented by a consortium led by Mercy Corps, Captain Sacid was given a certificate of recognition for his services to the country and for performing exemplary well at the Combined Army Academy in Awash, Ethiopia, where he emerged the top student  by getting straight A’s in his cumulative GPA in a Bachelor of Military Science and Leadership.

SONYO Chairman Ahmed Abdi Wacays, praised the young officer and urged other youth in Somaliland to follow in his footstep in their various fields of studies or work.

“We are so proud of your record and your efforts in showing the world that Somaliland youth can make it given an opportunity. This is why we thought in our small way to recognize your efforts by giving you this certificate of merit and appreciation for gunning top honors in your class and for representing us so well. Thank you and please keep up the high standards when serving your country and people,” SONYO chairman Ahmed said when handing over the gold plated certificate to the young captain.

The composed and shy captain Sacid had little to say.

“I joined the army in 2005 and joined Combined Army Academy in Awash Ethiopia on March 2010 to July 2012. The course was challenging by thanks God I managed to emerge as the top overall student scoping straight A’s in 108 subjects.  Am very happy and feel proud to have attained such grades. With determination and hard work anyone of can succeed. I thank all those who have recognized my efforts and promise my utmost best in serving my country and people,” He said, after a sumptuous meal prepared in his favor at the Maan Soor hotel in Hargeisa.

GCC Hargeisa youth leader Mohamed Meygag also known as Mr. Action praised captain Sacid and said his status will help boost morale among the youth in Somaliland.

“He is yet another achiever among many youth who have made it in Somaliland. He has set a very high standard that can be marched and we are proud of him. He has officially joined the GCC Hargeisa hall of fame and our role models for the youth of Somaliland,” Mr. Action said.
