The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has declared Monday 29 Oct as the official kickoff date for the campaign period for the local council elections and called upon all parties to observe election laws and regulations.
NEC spokesperson Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Hirsi Geele announced that the campaign period will officially commence on the 29th of October and run till 25th November 2012, just three days before the ballot date.
Geele speaking during the press conference which was held at the commission headquarters in Hargeisa revealed that commission consisting of nineteen members has been tasked to monitor if parties are acting in accordance with election laws.
Seven parties are taking part in the local council elections scheduled to take place in on 29 Nov 2012t namely UMADDA,, UCID,KULMIYE,WADDANI,DALSAN,RAYS and XAQSOOR respectively.
NEC spokesperson has reminded political parties competing in the elections to uphold peace and safeguard security for the duration of the campaigning period.
Mr.Geele added NEC has set a fixed timetable for each contesting parties with each party been assigned four days period of conducting political rallies all over the country.
