As the say goes, something is better than nothing my fellow African neighbour [Ethiopia]. Its been long since we have established our statehood, and its about time that Mr. Zinawi come out of the hidden and explain to my people of Somaliland are kept hostage for the failed and none existent state of Somalia. Our relations will not be the same if our neighbours could not say loudly that the people of Somaliland deserve to be listened. We are not secessionist, but reclaimed our state that we had thrown in 1960. Ignoring us for so long will not be to your advantage Mr. Zinawi.
Ethiopia Universities and 100 Somaliland students that the Ethiopian Government offered during President Silaanyo official trip to the neighbourly country is all well and good. The importance of special mutual bilateral relationship and cooperation in all fields need no over-emphasis. Hopefully it's not far away when the
two countries will enjoy long term peace security stability progress and prosperity for the
people of both countries.
Cheers.
It is a shame that we are at the mercy of our enemy. I remember when Somalians used to be proud and look down on Ethiopia. How can a country that can even feed its citizens provide you with a scholarship. This signifies how Somalians lot sight of their priorities. we can not depend on other people. It is time Somalians realize the reality and wake up. no one can help us unless we help us and no one will do it for our self.It is time Somalians North or South wake up,stop fighting and killing each other, and rebuild your country even. Twenty years is too long.
u r just ignorant,……ethiopia has the fastest growing in terms of education in africa for you information plus its relationship building—its a present from ethiopia nad its wrong not to accept so just say thanks at least poor people are getting an opportunity faraxs dont appreciate
What an ignorant, do you know We have the best universities( look mine : http://www.google.com/m/search?site=images&gl… )
It always amaze me why some Somalian and Eritreans act like this when the fact is that hundreds of thousands of Somalians and eritreans come to our country as refugees but living as they wish as any Ethiopian, being allowed to work, go to school, etc.
South sudance and and Somalilands should ignore such illiterates and make use of every opportunity to gain all the wisdom we love to offer to our brothers and sisters. Education is the key to success in every field, be it business, creativity, the educated man power to lobby at the AU, UN, USA etc and proof you case that you are beyond capable of forming your own nation and have all the resources for that.
Somaliland could have been earning billions of dollars just from it's ports as we are in need of more huge ships for our exponentially increasing exports. Ethiopia has the 5th biggest annual economic growth in the world and the 2nd in non oil producing countries.
I agree with you Elmi
Its time for us to build our nation and stop killing each other ,Somalian Government stop being used by other countries like Ethiopia they can't feed they own people and now they give scholarship to us no ,its just politics and that only,
Mr.Elmi do not camouflaging yourself with Somali raise. We do not have any problem with Ethiopia. We Somalilanders suffered this propaganda for a long time, and what we need now is to have a peaceful coexistence with our neighbours. Crocodile tiers to instigate problems between Somaliland and Ethiopia is gone forever. We never had problems with our brothers, but people like you created this hate which does not have where to end. Where is the Somali name that you are trying to campaign it. They are killing each other every day. We have a piece to cherish and relations between us and our neighbours is good and will grow further. These 100 students will graduate tomorrow and share the nation building in Somaliland.
God bless you boqol, some people are too ignorant to sit and stir hate between innocent people.
I congratulate to my somaliland brothers and sisters who got the scholarship to attend in Ethiopian universities. I am sure they will enjoy their stay in our universities and gain the knowledge they deserve to build their country, Somaliland.
They will have the chance to share ideas, introduce their beautiful calture etc to many other students who came from other African countries too.
I wish them success.
Thank you Ethiopia for the scholarship.
PS: Love your neighbour, but don't tear down your fence.
…….we must not forget that our education system has to improve, we cant relie on other countries. if you like the countries with the best education institutions are those who are the most developed. so somaliland needs to invest in education and health care substantially.
Ethiopia is one of the poorest and hungriest nations in the world!!!! How can they offer a quality education if they cant even feed themselves????? this does not make any sense and a ethiopian DEGREE has no merits period!!!!!!!!!!!!! Somaliland should look elsewhere like the WEST or China for good education!!!!!!!
Abdi and Eme,…well, Don't u know that Somali's hunger(for peace, basic human rights,…shelter and food, as proved by their being the stateless-seeking for protection in an alien country) is quite far reaching than the Ethiopians!!
Think of the nation that ever hungary Ethiopia is giving scholarship for their youth? It is Somaliland only. Ethiopians themselves are in the margin of starvation, where hundreds of thousand normally die of hunger, annually, why didn't they feed their citizens instead. They want to use our Berbera Port for free. NONONO please.

Would it kill you to say thank you? Ethiopia giving out 100 scholarships to Somalilanders means there will be 100 Ethiopians that won't be going to college this year. So you people should understand this is a big sacrifice Ethiopia is making. And for your information, there are thousands of Ethiopian engineers and doctors with degrees from Ethiopian Universities successfully working in the US and Europe, so thiese 100 Somalilanders are getting a world class education for free!
My Somalian brother's the thing that u guys didn't understand is if u go to India for example, u will b surrounded by thousands of beggars but their teaching system and their universities are in a good standard so as any other African country Ethiopia is poor but this does't mean the education system is also poor. By the way Ethiopia is one of the worlds top fast growing country and the students who graduated from the universities of Ethiopia are the most qualified and acceptable in any corner of the world. It is also usual to see a lot of Ethiopian doctors, nurses, professors, engineers e.t.c who were graduated and now work in USA, Europe and in other parts of the world so,this opportunity is one of the best gift that is offered from the Ethiopian pp to the Somalian brothers so rather than complaining and think in uncivilized way it is the the perfect time to say thank you!
u guys , still u have nepotism and stereotype on mother land Ethiopia. we are sorry to hear such unethical and destructive words. think about yur self,u'r in place which is the worst and unstable in the world,u be rather feel awkward. we know Ethiopia is far better than Somali, whatever bad condition there .moreover,we cant compare two extreme situation where killing somebody else is considered as honer and a very ethical country where many ethnicity ,religion live together and tolerate .
Selmi and Abdi
Look at yourselves. You two losers wil never go nowhere in life with hate. Those days where you looked down on Ethiopia are long gone, today Ethiopia has the 4th fastest growing economy in the world, a huge target for foreign investors, and is the capital of Africa for hosting African Union meetings. Where are you southerners? 20 years of killing and blowing each other up you still have the same mentality. Leave our brothers (the northerners) alone. We are cooperating and now 100 somalilander kids can get high education at top universities. Addis Ababa unversity is a top notch university for the somalilanders who want to become architects. Gonder university has the best medical schooling. And many more.
We Somalilanders prefer to deal with "arch" enemy Ethiopia than Somalia. There you have it!
We keep telling you (Somalis from Somalia), this country is different from your sick country and we wish to live in peace with all of our neighbors that includes you even though your just a haters.
As long as my people are getting educated, its good. We rather have a Somaliland civil engineer from Ethiopia than have an uneducated big bearded suicide bomber from Somalia.
They are trying to confuse us by using the old issues—Somaliland never had beef with Ethiopia. We just tried to help you in 1977 and u walked out on us. We have moved on and we dont plan to free those crazy Ogaden nomads.
I am so happy for the Somalilanders , We in Somalia been suffering for 20 years
The southern somalis are very jelous about the good relationship betwen Somaliland and Ethopia. They have problems of adopting to the changes that has taken place in the horn of Africa in the last decades. It is a grave sign. If a group of people fail to adopt in their envirenoment, extinction becomes unaviodable, according to the books.
I like this :)
Some of you here are complaining about the 100 bright students whose future could be in the beginning. Trust me, and we will see, that number will quadruple. Somaliland and Ethiopia will start building that area and the people with 100 kids at a time while others still could not let go the past and build up their hatred amongst themselves; their own brothers. Enough about Ethiopia did this Somaliland did that! Yes we are poor, but wise! Long live Ethiopia! Long live Somaliland! Long live East Africa. We will grow; peace, love, respect, cooperation and prosperity will shine on all of us soon. You and I start that journey.
Cheers!
FIRST OF ALL IT IS OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE HUNDRED STUDENT RECEIVING A SCHOLARSHIP PAID FOR PERIOD, SECOND OF ALL IT IS A RELATION BUILDING, ETHIOPIA IS LARGE POPULATED COUNTRY WHICH MEANS YES THERE ARE SOME OR MORE THAN HALF WHO ARE BELOW THE POVERTY LINE, HOWEVER THEY WILL GET THE BEST EDUCATION ETHIOPIA OFFERS AND ITS BETTER THAN MOST AFRICAN COUNTRIES TRUST ME……THIRD OF ALL I AM SURE SOME ETHIOPIANS USED TO STUDY AT OUR UNIVERSITIES WHEN "SOMALIA WAS SOMALIA".
AND LAST BUT NO LEAST WHATS WRONG WITH ETHIOPIA….I HATE SOMALIANS WHO DISS OTHER PEOPLE WHEN THEY ARE IN A STATE THEMSELVES….TELL ME WHAT DID SOMALIANS CONTRIBUTE TO EARTH ANYWAYS….U LOT TALK LIKE U R SOMEHOW BETTER THAN OTHER PEOPLE…THATS A SIGN OF IGNORANCE AND STUPIDITY….SOMALIANS CAN BE DISSED MANY WAYS SO STOP STREOTYPING ETHIOPIANS.
ETHIOPIA IS A GREAT NATION AND THEY HAD THEIR MISFORTUNES JUST LIKE OTHER AFRICAN COUNTRIES,….
IF ANYTHING THEY ARE THE CLOSEST WE HAVE AS NEIGHBOURS DONT U AGREE….
THANK YOU ETHIOPIA AND INSHALLAH WE HOPE TO DO THE SAME FOR YOU.
FROM SOMALILAND HARGEISA
I am really happy to hear that finally our country is focusing on providing free education for the youth. Somaliland will only develop and become recognized if we all become well educated. The coming generations will have a better future as well. Since we all know that we are a poor country and it is hard for families to provide full education for their children. Scholarships from the government is a crucial step. It is also the wealthy individuals duty to help out and do their parts to build the future of Somaliland. If we all take responsibility and participate we can make our country rich, successful, and full of well educated people who will bring a promising life for all of us.
