HARGEISA-Somaliland president Ahmed Mohamed Siilaanyo left the country on Saturday leading delegation to the London Somali summit where Somaliland was invited to participate the conference. Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Siilaanyo and his delegation will make a short stop over at Kenya before departing to London.
The delegation headed by the president is accompanied by Ministers, MP’s and members of opposition parties. Speaking to local press, the president reiterated that they will present Somaliland case at the conference as he said “forty five countries are invited to attend the conference in order to find a lasting solution to Somalia and issues affecting the region”.
The president clarified that Somaliland was extended an invitation to attend the summit which is scheduled to take place on 23 Feb 2012 at London thus giving Somaliland an opportunity to make their case heard and will bring our issue on the table.
The president expressed his commitment that they will make their voice heard by every attendee at the conference. He said that when it comes to Somaliland at the summit, national debate was initiated where National Assembly, National political parties and political organizations held debate on whether Somaliland will attend the summit or not and they all agreed upon that Somaliland join the conference.
He added that all came to conclusion in attending the summit; the government and its people agreed on that there is an interest for Somaliland to go the conference.
Once the president asked the recent corruption scandals leveled against his administration, the president denied allegations and said that there is no corruption in his government as far as he knows.
He further said that they are fighting against the corruption and formed the Anti-corruption commission and made clear that the president put his confidence on his ministers.
He said this agency is tasked to launch investigation and come up with their findings.
Once the president if something against Somaliland comes out the conference, what Somaliland plan should be and he said that he does not expect that to happen but if that occurs they will make their stance loud and clear.

The conference is about " … find a lasting solution to Somalia and issues affecting the region”.
Furthermore, Somaliland has to present its case to the International Community. And to shine on its Democractic System, its good governance, development, and peace and stability that is the envy of some of our neighbours. The International Comunity are also eager to hear how Somaliland did it and why their neighbours can't. Perhaps, Somalia can learn from Somaliland and follow their step.

This administration was in power for less than 2 years and they have done better than all the previous administration combine. If people are not bias or have a kind of vendette against the President they will see the difference too. Lots are complaining that the majority in the ministries' position are from his clan. Isn't that what everyone come to power do? Well, as long as they are doing something good, I don't mind. So people, wait your truns and stop complaining.

I think this president has made a wise decision to attend the conference, the isolation needed to be broken and people have to remember its a chance for Somaliland to convince its case to the International community and Somalia, Somaliland needs the blessing of Somalia if its to be a country of its own, this is the fact that many would like to ignore.

Does anybody know whether 4.5 ratio is included people from Somaliland? Salam to everyone, in all honesty S/Land is far from recognition and the reason I'm saying that is justice and equality is not fully applied in this country. The country is run by one family and the rest are treated as 2nd class citizens, unless we distribute power (on governmental level) fairely we're far from recognition. No offence brothers and sisters, let me ask you stright forward question: How many ministers from ethnic minority (i.e. Gabooye) we have in this government and the previous one?

There is justice in the universe! Somaliland is free and the rest of so called somaliwayne hypocrites bark like angry donkeys online from numerous coffee shops around their chosen western cities.

ComeAgain, Wallahi i'm not related to Siyaad by any means or shape. I'm a citizen of S/Land a citizen who is looking for his share, you can not deny me this. A citizen who wants his people to raise up and say enough is enough. The truth hurts sometimes my friend but we need to solve our internal and community problems, with open hearts and minds.

One family can not rule the country, a democratic country should involve all other ethnicity/clans (based on knowledge and experience) in decision making process and building the country towards bright future.

We're on the right trak, but loads of issues needs to be tackled. DON'T YOU AGREE?

One thing that Somali landers ignore forces the government to participate in the London Somali conference: foreign aid. Apart from the meager tax that the government collects from the public, Somali land depends on British and American aid for its existence. If they reject to take part in this conference, they will have to face the consequence of annoying their givers. Somali land and all the other parts of Somalia are under the mercy of this aid. We are beggars and we should obey our providers.

  20. Abraham says:

    @M. Khalil
All the aid money which is given to Somaliland does not usually go beyond our healthy population of fraudsters. But the money which is used to run Somaliland is the tax generated by its ingenious and hardworking entrepreneurs, pastoralists, farmers, investors, Diaspora, bankers, and industrialists. At the moment our government’s tax receipt is not large enough to bring about the desired results in terms of national development, however if the government continues on its current path of reform it will be only a matter of time before Somaliland becomes the first African country to officially become developed…….Hallelujah.

Abraham the most important thing is that all our industries should be in our hands, no foreign companies thats how they manage to keep countries poor.

Everything we do, produce etc should be from us and for the most part for our population at least at first.

I am even more worried about the glaxo smith kline business than anyone. We should be very carefull about foreign companies.

Many regions / provinces  in Somalia has been followed each other footsteps to administered by them self & it's very encouraging thing to all Somalia states to do the same thing , be able to stabilize security within their province . I believe personally autonomous is the only solution for Somalia problems. I don't think Somalia can afford any state to breakaway or to demand independence from greater Somalia , but   State governance  will be the answer for  all Somalia  external& internal conflicts, which has been problematic for the last two decade . We stand together & we can not be divided by south & north Somalia . Finally please join me to send my warmest  greeting & congratulation to all of our Somalia states that stood up peace & stability within their regions .  Thanks to Awdil  state , Galmudug state , Hiiran state, Khaatumo  state , Somaliland state , putland state, Zania state all of my Somalia states.
