Somaliland: Why Is Amoud University Going Down The Drain?

Although I am not from Awdal, I am a big fan of Amoud University. My name is Ali M. Siidi and I am from Barava (Baraawe). In the winter of 1999, Awdal community in Toronto organized the first fundraising for Amoud University. When one of my fellow Lafoole teachers contacted me about the Amoud Fundraising I became very interested in it. I had very much high hopes for Amoud University until I heard that my former teacher and colleague at Lafoole Mr. Suleyman Ahmed Guled was involved in it.

I ran into an article in this same website that talks about Mr. Suleyman. The gentleman, who wrote, Mr. Adan, is making it sound that if someone studies in America then they are outright trustable, an American degree makes them honest individuals and great leaders. It is not like that at all. If it were like that the world would be a great place to live and Somalia will not be a failed nation. Many people who destroyed our country learned in the US and the western countries.

I was one of Suleyman Ahmed Guled’s students and then I worked with him. There are a few things that I came to know about Suleyman. At the Start of a project Suleyman is passionate about it. He inspires everyone and the work begins. When that project bears fruit, he is the only man who ever gets the credit for making it a success. He whispers in everyone ears until people begin to fight each other. He ignores everyone else. Suleyman does not like anyone else with any education to work beside him. Suleyman hates accountability and if anyone asks he creates another issue. He is a smooth talker that is his only quality. He knows how to use people and he knows how to destroy them.

Suleyman is like a wild hyena with a silver tongue who can convince skinny sheep he will take care of them. He feeds them and takes care of them until it is fat and then he devours them. He was fattening Amoud University and now it is time to devour the University. He announced a master and PhD program which even that fools know that it is the side issue he is creating because he was caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

One the night when finished the fundraising I spoke at length to one of the fundraisers and at the end I told him that I feel very sorry for Amoud University. I told him that Suleyman Guled can start something but finally Suleyman will destroy what he started. It took a long time but the hyena has finally shown his true nature. And now everyone is looking. He is in the spot light.

It is shame to see someone from Somalia criticizing Mr. Sulaiman, who devoted his time in building a prestigious university in Somaliland. The author ignores the fact that his own home town, Barave is occupied by Alshabaab. Now it is my turn to ask him if he contributed something to improve the lives of his fellow Barawians.

This is nothing but a poorly written and a cheap gossip that goes against the spirit of Ramadan. This garbage doesn't belong here in Somalilandpress and must be taken off SLpress pages.

Mr. Sulaiman achieved to build Amound university, he has also controbuted hugely the production of much needed graduates in Somaliland. He was one of the writers of the Somaliland constitution. he is a peacefull person. He is not involved in clanish afairs. He has given so many schoolarships to even students from South Somalia….
The critics of Mr Moody are not fair. He writes in general. he is saying Saleebaan bulids then destroys. Come on. you need to generate better evidence to discredit one of the elites in Somaliland

Universities are institutions, and not a place for a one man band. There was always questions about his relationships with zoomalians.

Please build an environment where strong and independent people are produced and not the usual docile third worlders always seeking guidance from white men and valuing themselves less than the white countries.
