Somaliland: VP tours Construction Work at Egal International Airport

Somaliland Vice President Hon Abdurrahman Abdillahi Ismael toured the ongoing construction work to upgrade and renovate the runway at Egal International Airport

The Minister of Civil Aviation and Air Transport Hon Mahmoud Hashi Abdi briefed the Vice President Sayli’i on the ongoing work of a new runaway terminal at the Egal international Airport. He said that although construction work at the Airport was behind schedule, it was now in the final stages.

Hon. Mahmoud said the upgrade works includes building a new runway and installing a security fence. He thanked the government of Kuwait in their generosity for donating $10 million for Egal international airport and Berbera airport.

The Minister of Aviation said that once work of upgrading the runway is completed, Egal international Airport will be handling all types of airplanes.

A Chinese mining company (China Hono Group) was awarded the contract to upgrade the Egal international airport in a deal worth $4,436,000 with the Somaliland Ministry of Civil Aviation & Air Transportation in Hargeisa.

The Vice president said he was encouraged by the ongoing work at the airport.

President Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud ( Silanyo ) laid the foundation stone for the renovation project in May 27 2012.

I can imagine going to Hargeisa next summer and the airport being the same trash it was before. why waste your money on adding few rock. This is why Somalis everywhere will never reach anywhere. lucky for me i will just stay away and visit some beautiful south american countries.

There is no change as we all knew Silaanyo paid his tribes man and his nephew just to claim the money from Kuwait charities. They are very shameful.

They brought in one second hand machine from Bangladesh and think thats construction. This is how things are done in Garadag maybe but not in the modern world.

It has been months and there is no fence, runway, tower, nothing just few nomads climbing few rusted machines.

The wreckage will even still be there…

I wonder why Somaliland construction workers aren't involved? Granted the Chinese have more experience but given the high unemployment and in global terms weak nature of the Somaliland economy, these Chinese workers will take the money and reinvest it in China and not Somaliland. Somaliland workers will reinvest that money back into the country and thus you have a moving economy. It sad to see non Somalilanders building our nations airport.

If I were to say that the sun rises over Nasa-Hablood in the east of Hargeisa and sets in the west, someone in this forum would say, "Never". Hargeisa Airport is going under construction. That is the story, does everything has to political. As for the first person to comment, please, I beg you, get some help, quick!
