This is a great news for Somaliland. UNICEF will no doubt create lot of jobs for Somalilanders. And we hope that other organizations who have the slightest mental hesitation about Somaliland to follow UNICEF.
That's is great news. Somaliland has alot potential to uplift the poverty stricken status of the Horn of Africa. The people are ready to work with international communities and how to improve the well being and the standard of living for Somalilanders and also assist neighboring countries in need of aid and support.
As much as this is a welcomed news for Somaliland, it's also worth noting organisations like UNICEF hav a agenda which is not necessarily in tune with Somaliland's ambitions. The best one can hope from this is that it will create projects that will help the development of the social and economical infrastructures. And not the pockets of the usual suspects.
A step forward toward but a small one to what we could achieve! Somaliland should and must fight to be the brain of 'AFRICA' and the nation's recognition must have been achieved ALREADY. We are behind, in fact way too behind. WHY? possibly the following reasons:
In political, our leaders are too eager and desperate to achieve recognition. There is a saying, a desperation is a killer of attraction! Somaliland recognition can be achieved without years of none sense bickering thats bring nothing but 'waste of time' and perhaps a tiny achievements like the one we are too excited about! (see above article) Lets not forget Somaliland is a beacon example in Africa but thats in one aspect, 'in peace' HOW ABOUT Economical aspects. Millions of our future generation are jobless, theres no clear future. If you offer one of them the opportunity to escape from the country they will not think twice. WHY? The simple answer is, because there is no FUTURE and peace won't feed an empty stomach. The clock is ticking and SOMALILAND need to alter its strategy to achieve real changes that can bring significant achievements. But then I think to myself, HOW? We have clear PROBLEMS. Our political leaders are more or less the same. They think the same way, the believe the same OLD non-sense. They are moving the same direction. The direction that is keeping us behind. They are wasting too much time and forgetting the clock sticking for thousands of hungry families and millions of jobless teenagers in our country.
Somaliland was established in my BIRTH TOWN when I was 3 years old since then WHAT ARE THE SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS? A peace? hmm
Changes is needed.
In our political playing field, MORE educated young politicians who are desperate to serve their beloved country are needed. Replacing old machines is vital. For example, in a factory were you have an old machine you replace with a new one in order to achieve a QUALITY if not, you ARE risking the quality of your products. If the quality of your products goes down customers who are buying your product will become less satisfied hence this may lead customers switching to another supplier. So avoid the lost of customers, you simply need to replace the old machine in the first place. My point here is RETIRED politicians need to be replaced. However, their hard-work and contribution to their country must be shown appreciation. And where their expertise is needed they must be consulted but not implemented fully. However, without achieving this its hard for Somaliland to alter tactics and SEE real changes.
In our economy, we NEED young business entrepreneurs and talented genius people WHO ARE educated in the country and outside the country at this present moment. To achieve this OUR political leaders need to SEEK those young people and try and bring them HOME. Somaliland NEED A CENTRAL BANK that is supporting the overall economy. A central bank that can implement economical tactics when things get tough for example introducing 'quantative easing', supporting smaller businesses etc Supporting the micro and macro economic environment in Somaliland. However, EDUCATION is vital before any of these can be achieved.
I will conclude this, SOMALILAND need to wakeup and realise WE ARE wasting so much time. Time is money. Every day, every hour counts for World leaders but for us and for our leaders every meal counts. I blame on our politicians WHERE OUR country is TODAY and they should blame whatever….THEIR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE AND IGNORANCE. They are taking SOMALILAND in either two directions. 1. A direction that will take years before you or your child see a change, a small one, that will not benefit significantly neither of YOU. 2. Unknown direction that ONLY Allah knows!
Why I am blaming them.
A driver is ALWAYS responsible the passengers of his/her car. The passenger isn't the one who is driving the car, the driver is. The driver must know:
Shortcuts hence to save petrol
Avoid traffic hence save TIME
Drive in a sustainable speed and avoid accident!
The leaders of Somaliland are the drivers of the country and that is why I blame them where our country is TODAY.
A real education, EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION! is the ONLY way FORWARD and our politicians lack of education.. And BUT one who have education is lacking of interagency and Allah’s gift of being a genius.. May Allah HELP my beloved nation. I love YOU ALL.
That was soo long but so interesting to read lol I couldn't agree with you more. I think we should raise against time, treat time as money and speed up to develop our people and country with opportunities and robust economy. I think that's why more political parties with fresh ideas is needed and also getting the educated and enthusiastic goal orientated and success driven young people involved
simply masha'allah. you are amazingly intelligent. i was admiring each sentence of yours. may Allah preserve you from all harm.
Its ok as long as we understand the message. No need to beautify it.
It is not about "beautifying" it, but about good journalism. agree with you a 100% @aswani.
UNICEF is very resourceful when it comes to the misappropriation of the public donated funds, by now it’s apparent that it has manipulated, and corrupted Djibouti authority through its Kafiil Odette de Chihuahua.
Nairobi, Nov 8/2011 UNICEF appeals to the international community for US$300 million in 2012 to ensure the current level of support and to scale up where needed, that is where the self-declared Somaliland comes in handy.
Few days later, UNICEF special representative to Somalia Mr. Sikander Khan visited the self-declared Somaliland with a concealed plan. Well you can only go to no man’s land and build your own pre-planned project with no question being asked.
For sure, what the self-declared Somiland didn’t realize is that the sheer amount of money and countless human misery to be profited in the region would make it the largest base of UNICEF in Africa, and for that matter the whole world.
One might ask himself or herself why not Ethiopia, one of the largest recipient of the Somali refugees, well Ethiopia again the largest international aid recipient with unique vehicle plate # AO…….., has passed a legislation to curb the out of control corruption of the Aid Organization(AO), so Ethiopia hasn’t been lately the Mecca of Aid Agencies.
Self-declared has been the centre of money-laundering, Dahab=shiil and extended Djiboutian Banking system to self-declared Somaliland being the pivotal point of this thriving illicit market. As you can imagine, the various corrupted UN agencies would dream of to associate these failed entities where there is paper-trail.
If the project is implemented as planned, it would be very hard that the self-declared Somaliland authorities would resist the temptation.
Somalilandpress is known to exaggerate events by filing a false report and creating situation. Sikander Khan is UNICEF special representative to Somalia not self-declared Somaliland and Somalia. Again UNICEF special representative to Somalia is not a high level delegation, Elhadj As Sy, UNICEF's Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa have not been mentioned. Sikander Khan was UNICEF representative to Iraq before the current position, when the UN resolution oil for food to starve Iraqi children was effective, he is the product of the biggest UN corruption scandal “Oil for Food”
I have similar reservations about UNICEF using its money for aid rather than for donor recruitment, administrative purposes and many other mescolinious purposes, but what we have to realize is that donors, mainly Western governments are too stupid to really now how their massive amount of money could really benefit for the people it is meant for, so it is no way Somaliland's fault that there is going to be less money for really doing good projects that are worth-while. According to the latest report from Somalilandpress only 12 projects will be receiving a meager fund of $25 million which is nothing compare to the amount it has asked to raise.
Nonetheless, Somaliland's new adminstration has been pushing for a greater accountibility, regulations and transparency for all Aid Agencies in its soil and with the Donor Community, and I am convident that the adminstration wants to promote projects in its soil that would benefit its citizens through employment or in direct benefit from the actual projects UNICEF have been entrusted to undertake.. If we don't do it, someone else would do it. In terms of the corruption that was mentioned, I believe Somaliland has the best chance of fighting corruption because we have been developing the necessary systems and institutions that would deal with such evil, we just have to be very vigilant as we have been already.
UNICEF is useless and only the uneducated and the no so alert see them as something to welcome.
Somaliland should not do business with UNICEF and its notorious mobsters.
Folks………give UNICEF a break!!
