In collaboration with Google, SOMTEL presents Gmail SMS; a free web-to-SMS service which enables Gmail user to send free SMS to any SOMTEL subscriber in Somaliland and the world over via Gmail SMS-chat service this was revealed recently when in a press conference held in Hotel Ambassador.
Speaking during the press conference the Managing Director of SOMTEL Mr. Awil Salah Abdi accompanied by departmental Heads, said that under the partnership with Google, Gmail users worldwide will be able to send email messages to SOMTEL mobile numbers and in turn they can then delivered to either SOMTEL subscriber or others via text message.
Also present during the press conference was Mr. Nelson Mattos, the Engineering Vice President for Europe, Middle East and Africa, who began by saying” Google has been ardent to promote innovation and business and boost economies in the region and across Africa as whole each year.
Google’s has a commitment to driving the web forward in Africa, highlighting the entrepreneurial opportunities it brings and that Google will soon also start training local technicians on its developer and business technologies, revealed Mr. Nelson.
Mr. Nelson added, “Business is being redefined by access to information, more specifically access to the right information, at the right time. Local entrepreneurs will play a unique role in creating a dynamic online experience that will help spur the growth of businesses in Somaliland.
Mr. Hashi Mohamed Hassan SOMTEL Chief engineer said, with the new service SOMTEL subscribers will now read their mail, as it’s now possible to access internet through their phones,” he said. “With this service, users will now be able to quickly access and reply to messages because they can carry their phones everywhere and any time.”
SOMTEL subscribers can now Log into Gmail account using web browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Google Chrome then In Chat and SMS text box (image enclosed), enter the number of SOMTEL subscriber to send message and click on Send SMS, added Eng. Hashi.
Type message in the chat window and hit Enter and the Message will be sent to the mobile number entered instantly.
To send message to already saved contact, type his name or number in Chat -SMS text box and you’re desired contact will be displayed below after that you can Select it from the list and send message.
To respond to the message received from Gmail user, simply reply from mobile and your Reply will appear on Gmail interface of Gmail user of your choose.
SOMTEL subscriber can reply to the message received from Gmail user within 24 hours.
Service Charges:
SMS sent by Gmail users to SOMTEL subscribers will be free of cost and SMS sent by SOMTEL subscribers to Gmail users will be charged nothing
No subscription is required to avail Gmail SMS –chat service you can send SMS messages to your contacts’ mobile phones using Gmail Chat.

This is just a copy of Telesom and they brought in few minor people from the region who don't even have access to Google technology. Completely pointless.
SomTel does everything Telesom does. They can't come up with their own ideas because their boss is busy funding tribal conflicts and sending countless emails and letters to UN telling them they all finance terrorism.
Don't be surprised if tomorrow they don't claim Telesom is a financier of Iran's regime.
SomTel can't even get the basics right; they are clueless about email services and watch tomorrow the whole system will collapse.
Telesom is professional and focuses on local people power rather than some foreigners…
