Somaliland set for presidential vote

June 24, 2010   ·   19 Comments

The self-declared Republic of Somaliland will soon hold its second presidential election in 8 years.

Campaigning for the vote is underway in the breakaway state, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991.

However, the area is only recognised internationally as an autonomous region within Somalia.

Now many people are celebrating the election that was delayed for almost two years.

Al Jazeera’s Mohammed Adow reports from Hargeysa, the capital of Somaliland.

I like how the ladies wearing the Buqra wave the UDUB party flag with half of their body outside the car.

Now Western people who feared the clothe will be even more confused because of their ignorance.

Vote for UCID and if you cant do that at least Kulmiye. We need change. I use to be UDUB fan but I got sick of their lies and never moving wagon. They are stuck in mud, what can they do for us that they couldnt do in 8 years? Can you wait for another 8 years of the same promises and nothing policies?

    No UDUB!

There is no way that UDUB is going to be re-elected. The people Somaliland had enough of their lies, mismanagements, and violations of the constitution and basic human rights.

We don’t trust them and their record speaks loud and clear for their failures. Besides, their supporters are leaving the Party in large numbers daily. And that is sign of how people lost confidence in UDUB.

Vote Kulmiye or UCID both are better than UDUB.

Vote for UCID, vote for a change. Remember why we left Somalia is because those people do not like changes they had Siad Bare 21 years while we cried for a change.

Keeping UDUB is no fun nor counter productive. Change is always good do not be afraid.

I was UDUB supporter but they getting same old, no more fresh ideas, nothing is solved, even Rayale doesnt leave his compound in Hargeisa. In the time he was a leader he visited Borama once, Erigavo once, Las Anod once, Burao (never, dnt remember him visiting it).

He went to Berbera few times to take his plane there or meet few guys who would offer him bribe money.

Kulmiye and Udub are the two faces of the same coin. Every incompetent minister from the previous administrations of the late Egal and current president Rayale have made the switch to Kulmiye to get seats in the new government. Now tell me how’s that change?

    • Janagale says:

we need to elect new government i'm sure that when siranyo is elected we will not include his new government the previous minister who join kulmiye to get seat that is bull shit…… and siranyo will not do that only siranyo want to get their supporter………..

    Mustafe,

Kulmiye is inclusive and welcomes all supporters from Udub because every vote counts. Just because the ex udub politicians are coming in droves to Kulmiye doesn't mean they will get seats in the new goverment, on the controray.

If I am not mistaken, it was Abdurahman Cirro from Ucid who gave a whole speach, encouraging Udub politicians to report to the nearest Ucid offices and resign. Well it looks as if they have taken up on his offer, only it's the Kulmiye office instead of Ucid ;-).

All these resigning officials and politicians are good publicity for Kulmiye & goes on to show how Udub is hemeraging & crumbling, but under no circumstances will they be part of the new Kulmiye administration. Kulmiye is truly the agent of change and Isha Alaah will come out as the winner!

I met Mr. Silanyo in end of 1980s in my residence in Eastern Ethiopia-Arabi while there were mountains of problems ahead of him. We went in his pick up with him to a hotspring nearby where we had open showere with him and his comerades along the stream which was almost 500m long .I Was a boy that time, but what I learned about him was that he was concious person who give the analysis of what he observed. He was easy person, respectful ethusiastic with a convising power.
As a president of Somaliland I hope he will drive from Hargeisa to have an open shower in Arabi hotspring.

I wish him a good lack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
