The flights to Mogadishu are full these days, not just with returning residents, or business people, but of politicos heading back the city for the big one, the “election” of a new transitional federal government head and the naming of members of the constituent assembly.
The jockeying for positioning has begun, a ludicrous constitution which foolishly still claims the Republic of Somaliland as part of Somalia has been ratified, ( not by the populations, because that is currently impossible), but by a group of self-serving political leaders.
So far there has been a plethora of articles about the rumbles from Mogadishu and how it will affect Somaliland. As usual, Somaliland political opinions writers and political analysts have wound themselves up into a tizzy. But, fear not my fellow citizens, irrespective of the charade being played in front the international community in Mogadishu and Nairobi, we all know the score.
Somalia will never get its political act together. As much as we would like to see peace and progress come the wretched people of Somalia, its political leaders have not changed one iota.
These political leaders are all about money. How much? And who is paying it? Billions of dollars have already stolen, billions more on offer. Who can resist?
In the meantime the poor citizens of Somalia still live in abject destitution stuck between a weak and corrupt political leadership and religious fanaticism.
No, my fellow Somalilanders, Somaliland will continue to march on its own chosen path, the fantasist and dreamers in Mogadishu can still talk about the defunct Somali Republic whilst haggling and fighting over the latest donated dollar. Somaliland was a sovereign and independent republic in 1960, after a disastrous union, it is once again a free and sovereign nation.
Somaliland’s sovereignty is sacrosanct.
What is taking place in Mogadishu is like the aftermath of the dissolution of a marriage, the groom is gone, the bride has returned to her family home, and the old folk are still pretending that the marriage is still working. It is over. The best thing to do at this juncture is to wish each other well, remain friends, and go separate ways.

Every dream comes to an end. Somalia without proper leaders, caring citizens and honest unity will never overcome its destitute state, but we will pray for them to be set back to a path that is peaceful and just. All the best.
good articulating article. however i would waste my money on a ticket to Mogadishu yet as the fighting is more than likely to continue.
i
Good, stay away you have thay right.
Somalia Republic is one nation and always will be that inashaallah, these people who obsessed separation walaal stop daydreaming that did not happened and it will not happen.
Somalia Republic sovereignty is untouchable and is not nonnegotiable unity is the must. There is light the end of tunnel Somalia is coming back lets unite and build our beloved country.
Viva Jamhuuriyada Demuqraadiga Soomaaliya.
There was nothing called Somalia Republic you damiin! It was called SOMALI REPUBLIC. Somalia was the southern part of Somali Republic. SOMALIA+SOMALILAND = SOMALI REPUBLIC. Waa in far waaweyn laguugu dhigaa jaahilyahaw!
well said xarago.
Yes Xarago the sovereignty of the republic of Somalia is untouchable same as the sovereignty of The Republic of Somaliland is nonnegotiable at all and also that false unity will never ever come back again as it was unlawful unity people say that once bitten by the snake twice afraid so the enemies who wants the false unity let them understand that will be a history. ViVa Republic Of Somaliland.
I represent north Somalia, in particular our great second city Hargeisa and I can assure you that Somalia is alive here. The author like his other die hard tribalist, knows, if the south is back, everyone will stone that former house of Morgan.
He knows they can't tell the world that they are working solution and Somalia is dead anymore. They played that card for two decades and the world never lost hope with Somalia. Its like listening to Red Indians who say they will create a great Utopia inside USA hahahaha….would you fall for that?
When the time is right, I am going to join Somali politics as the voice of northern Somalia…I know exactly what to do to restore law and order in the north without violence.
you should represent nothern somalia.
Kayse you liar, you live in a hostel in East London and eat from cold tin beans and take welfare from the UK governement.
You represent nobody, if you are truthful in your statements how come Somaliland still exists surley if people back home were against it it would have died.
Kayse you are the biggest tribalist of all and hate Silanyo because of his tribe
Nice story sxb. I didn't know UK's main diet was cold tinned beans :)
I hope Mo Farah is not on that.
Your the only lost Gadabursi who thinks few Isaaq subclan representatives are actually a government. My advise for you as an Isaaq, since your my Dir brother is to support your professors like the Samater brothers. Somalia is one and it will remain that way. Anyone after British borders, should move to UK and enjoy their tinned beans :)
Did you see what happened to UDUB party and your uncle Dahir Rayale? Half of UDUB joined Kulmiye because they didn't want another Samaroon leadership…
Do you see Labor party breaking up and joining up with their oppositions?
This only happens in Garadagland's tribal parties.
jealous Issaqs
kkkkkk there is no need to be jealous of dar00d and haw!ye silverbacks. we will deport your refugees if you keep talking kkkkkkkkk
@ Ahmed Khyre,
Your analysis of the situation in Somalia is superb and your dissolved marriage analogy is to the point. I enjoyed reading this article and I wish our brothers and sisters in Somalia all the best.
Somalians may hold the failed concept of greater Somalia closer to their hearts but the fact is there is a tacit agreement on the part of the international community that Somaliland is separate. Somalia's constitution is full of contradictions and I suspect some of it is deliberate. Though it may lay claim to Somaliland, it opens the door for its independence too. I would not worry too much about it. Where Somaliland fits in the plan will become very clear when the new government takes office in Somalia. The brutal fact will be, it will have no jurisdiction over Somaliland affairs and that is why some countries are opening offices in Hargeisa. They cannot legally call them embassies but the offices will more or less function that way.
Somaliland is on path to formal recognition but it may take a bit more time due to the international community wanting to satisfy that the two sides talk first. The talks may hit a wall but it is just a necessary part of the process. A negative outcome will have no bearing on the eventual destination which is full independence.
Remember Somalia of the old considered Djibouti as part of it is territory!
well said Gaade, walalwayn refuse to see and accept that somalis of Djibouti did not want to join great Somalia, although they received full support ( military, financially, safe back up) from Barre regime to their struggle for the independence. Again, the deal for Somaliland to join Somalia in 1960 was to make union of 5 somalis regions, not only with South Somalia. If we want to change now rules for whatever reasons then Somaliland has totally the right to withdraw from fake union. Nothing less nothing more.
we dont want somaliland. they can stay
their all we care mogadishu all the way baby
ee-doors. you will never get your recognition. insult us "w-alan-weyns" all you want to make yourselves feel sorry but allah isn't granting you recognition just as allah is not granting paradise to the non muslims.
dar00d person you want to distroy zoomalia
You're soo stupid are u implying that Allah and his Prophet want a United Somalia for the Ummah LOL.
Never, ever use Deen when debating about Somalia or Somaliland, that is absolute nonsense.
darod and isaq are jealous, mogadishu is back baby bosaso and hargesa what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??
Somaliland region is as much part of Somalia as is districts in Mogadishu. Not sure what people driven by hate and tribalism are talking about in an era when the rest of the world are unifying into blocs and pacs.
Somalia is not a failed state, thats a term caved by Somali haters. Somalia is at a stage where it is experimenting with ideologies but it is aging from such laboratory. Before a vaccine is found and a right solution, some tumbling and setbacks along the way is all part of life and learning. It has been the way of humanity since the beginning.
Somalia lives on whether you like it or not. Nor tribalism nor empires can divide nor hold back the Somali aspiration and dream for unity, God is on our side who made us one race, one language and gave us one common faith.
All races like snakes shed the old skin. Somalia is shedding and moving in the right direction. No haters can hold it back, cry yourself to sleep or better go jump of the Burj Khalifa tower.
Well writen comment,Kayse sorry to use This word i don’t Think your “id@@r”.your too smart for Them and Think ahead.
hahahaha what you talking about dude, i'door as you say, made Somalia however lately their judgement got clouded but I can assure you that they are part of the process to restore our nation. The Diaspora Isaaqis are clueless; not only of Somalia but also Somaliland. When they go there they will see there is no government or any system in Somaliland, they are just bunch of diaspora group calling themselves a government.
Like all people, Isaaqis just want basic life, freedom, jobs and education.
I used to be against Somalia but thats because I was Isaaq Diaspora, going home taught me a lot.
Kayse you really are a Joker. You're talking as if Somalia is a Centuries old country. Somalia came into being in 1960, a little over 50 years ago. In fact when both of my parents were born Somalia, or should I say The Somali republic did not even exist.
And all this talk about countries coming together is a load of BS. In the UK Scotland wants to break away and will have a referendum in 2014. Europe is on the brink of beaking up. The Soviet union broke up in to some many countries, etc……
Unity cannot be forced, peoples only unite when they have common understanding, principles and Ideals.
In fact Syria and Eygpt united in the 60's to create the United Arab republic, which failed and they went back to the colonial borders.
Former Yugoslavia broke up around the same time was Somalia. All the Former Yugoslav countries are
doing great and almost on par with the eastern european neighbours.
Unity for the sack of unity is a waste of time.
To make long story a short One tribe can not become a country.
Please check which tribe rule for ever Djibouti and compare tribe from former President of somaliland.
@Keyse
Your statement:"Somaliland region is as much part of Somalia as is districts in Mogadishu." is hilarious. If Somaliland is like a district in Mogadishu there would not be law and order. Somaliland is not ruled by the bullet and its leaders are not proven corrupt by the International Community reports. Somaliland is ruled by the ballot and its constitution is ratified by national referendum. It is guarded by its strong national army.If Somalia is not a failed state why 17000 AU troops are stationed to keep order? Somaliland is not hate and tribalism driven but is is conscious driven. hatred, tribal militia, pirates, and terrorists have place in Somalia not in Republic of Somaliland. Our marriage is dissolved as stated by Khyre. Good luck with your new Marital contract with AMISOM led by Uganda.
@ Kayse
