WHO: Somaliland Community of Minnesota
WHAT: Rally at the Minnesota State Capital
WHY: Advocating for Somaliland’s Peace, democracy and stability, fighting terrorism, and most importantly a rally to build partnership between Authorities and Somaliland Community.
DATE: June 24th, 2011
BACKGROUND:The Republic of Somaliland gained independence from Britain on June 26, 1960. Shortly afterward, it united with the former Italian colony of Somalia. From the beginning, however, the union did not work out well for Somaliland, and finally ended in an absolute disaster. After the collapse of the Siad Barre regime, and after a decade of liberation war, Somaliland withdrew from the defunct union and re-declared its independence on May 18, 1991, not an act of secession but rather as a return to the status quo ante.
With little help from outside, Somaliland has achieved considerable progress in consolidating its statehood. The country adopted a new constitution, with overwhelming support from the voters, in a nationwide referendum held in 2001. Presidential elections were held in April 2003, and parliamentary elections September 2003. Both elections were deemed free and fair by foreign observers. The second Presidential elections were held in July 26 2010; the opposition leader won the 2010 election and the sitting President transferred power peacefully to the opposition candidate who was declared the winner. The International Community Observers have all reported the elections were free and fair and have been conducted under the International Standards.
On its own territory, Somaliland has been successful in its fight against piracy and terrorism. It has never tolerated any safe haven for pirates and has chased them whenever they came close to its 466 miles coastline. Somaliland has received tragic and cowardly terrorism acts on October 29, 2008 by terrorist who detonated cars with explosives in three separate coordinated locations simultaneously; at the Presidential Palace, United Nations office, and the Ethiopian Embassy; this incident caused the death of 30 innocent lives. It was later determined the drivers of one of the cars who committed this heinous crime was a young Somali-American from Minnesota. Somaliland needs the help of US government to fight terrorism.
The Somaliland Community expresses support for Somaliland, asking their leaders in the Minnesota State Capital and US Government to stand with Somaliland-Americans and with Somaliland to fight terrorism and to build partnership with the Minnesota Somaliland Community leaders to fight terrorism in USA and in Somaliland.

ur a jealous cow. No one is hurting Dhulbahante in Somaliland except Dhulbahante themselves. Somaliland government has sworn to pretect all her people and Dhulbahante is protected by Somaliland. But your own uncles and cousins in Buuhoodle are killing you in suicide bombs. Now that Dhulbahante elders and intellectuals are accepting to have dialogues with the government, the few trouble makers will be dispatched.

@Cali, first of all,we are not Isaaq because Somaliland is for Somalilanders and all people from the north inclusive. Secondly, you are the first person spoke with a clear conscience and spoke the truth ever. Whereas the majority of the people from the south and central Somalia are not only jealous but advocate and preach hate in every chance they get against Somalilanders. I am not sure I understand being 'misguided', but you too guys can learn from us what we are doing right and do the same. Of course, we are not there yet, but we trying to make a difference.

First and foremost, put down the weapons for heaven sake, mobilize the community and include everybody, make consultations, consensus, and compromise. Life is simply, give and take. You have to learn to love for your brother what you love for yourself. Put self-interest aside and work towards the common good. I am sure you will make a life-altering changes.

Good job, Cali, I hope that others will learn from you and stop this breeding this innate hate against Somaliand. We don't hate you guys, we want you to stop killing each other and innocent people. Just imagine, how many people have been killing for the last 20 years. Cqli maaha sidani.

  4. Hargeisawi-in-London says:

    @Gobaad,

Correction: Somaliland NEVER was the northern part of Somalia – perhaps, you were referring to the now dead (for ever) Somali Republic.

@Ali: I am afraid, decisions based upon misguided concepts should be leading Somaliland to failure not to success. So get your facts straight, matey!

Where are we after 20 years of tireless search for somaliland indipendence? We are on verge of disintegration into SSC, Awdal Landa and may be Togdheer Land in the near future. So our future gain is somali land giving birth to many Lands. God lack

if remember it correctly. i advised you last time, you need to free your part of somalia from Mohiga, (your proxy president) because this boat has sailed already and there is nothing you can do it, and soon it will disappear from your horizon
let me give you one piece of good advise, its about time you stop biting your lips and bleeding all over the somaliland press. but then again i am wasting my time on you as you are divorce from reality however some one has to inform you repetitively that Somaliand has divorced you so stop being delusional

  9. Maax says:

Happy June 26 an official North independance. The reason why all Somali administrations are unsuccessful after 51 years is because they are clan establishment, politically blind and fail to foresee what is about to come. Poeple have seen city burning one side while other parts of the same town sing waabaa baryey bilicsan. It's unfair to single out Kulmiye since the backbone of this party was Snm up to-day. They came to power after cried out my clan and no one expect them to treat people equally rather people will walkout to minimized conflicts between communities. Somalia was never be fair to everybody and our culture which favour and promotes clan interest is hindering any gains of stability.

Then North thought they will go alone since their areas seem to be more stable; however, they pay less attention to clan culture that rooted so deep last 100 years. Today North/Somaliland also found itself deeply divided into clan regionalism and Kulmiye is actually doing favour for making Somalis alike from South to North. You see the point, all the talks for the last 15 years that sold the North is different the South is no longer the case. Happy June 26 day. Somalia is in deep coma and refuses to go down.

  10. Jeff says:

I'm a white guy, sorry to butt in.
The biggest reason that Somali governments fail today is that "my" government (the U.S.) doesn't want them to succeed. My leaders funded the Ugandan invasion of Somalia, the Ethiopian invasions of Somalia, and of course our own invasion. These were all conducted to take out your government.
Nothing is different now than then. My government supports the current Somali govt. which only controls a tiny part of Mogadishu.
I urge you to never succumb to putting down the others tribe. Instead join the U.S. peace movement which resists the issues stated above.
Thanks for your thoughtful replies and I hope you thrive here.

the U.S. peace movement?….wtf i was with u until u said that… the U.S. is the same country who paid billions of dollars to destroy somalia and many other muslim countries (iraq, afghanistan, palestine — present-libya) and know they dont even want to pay a cent to help the poor drought victims…no wonder many ppl hate the U.S.

Speak for yourself m*r*n! You have no business to speak on half neither for Gadabiirsay which actually dir not darood nor warsangali for that matter, they are intelligent enough to speak for themsleves. Geed aad qabsataad la'dahay markaa saad marba cid kale isku labbaynaysaa. As for your last sentence, it is a wishful thinking, but that is not the case. Somaliland retreated itself 20 years ago and will never be part of Somalia again, period. Get used to it. It is for real.

They are here talking about Somaliland…because there is nothing worthy to say about Somalia. The south is burning,.. Mass murder, rape and looting are the order of the day ! women and children are being killed on a daily basis, yet they have the audacity to point fingures at Somaliland, a country that is democratic and peaceful. We wish Somalia peace, it is quite a shame that a country with so much potential has been turned into what some call the "Armpit of Africa"

  16. Ali says:

it is strange to see you guys bad mouthing Somaliland. Somaliland is not perfect, and no African state is perfect. Somaliland has its share of problem, and is part of neighbourhood that has gone through alot of bloodshed. The bloodshed is continuing in Somalia. The leaders in the south do not care about the Somalis in the South,. They all but puppets of of Uganda, Kenya, and the UN. I kow Sme of you guys will say that Somaliland is a puppet of Ethiopia. This may be true , but you have to know that in real politics, you chose what is possible to futher you interest. The choice Somaliland made is right for its people. It is tempting but it is not wise to get involved in the problem of the South – we are brothers and sister, so are the Djiboutians, but I do not hear the anti-somalilanders arguing for the incoporation of Djibouti into the South. We did it in the 1960, and what did we get back. What goes around comes around. The mayhem committed by Southerns in the late 80s in hargeisa and Burco is haunting them. We unconditionally joined you in 1960, and we have the rigt to gety out of the union unconditionally.
