Somaliland: Puntland militias kidnap Somaliland officials in route to Taleeh

LasAnod(SomalilandPress)—Reports coming from the provincial capital of Sool, LasAnod have informed SomalilandPress that Somaliland officials in route to the small town of Taleeh have been kidnapped and killed by Puntland militia. The Somaliland delegation that were kidnapped were lead by parliament member Mr. Saleeban Yusuf Ali Koore who hails from the province, attorney general of Sool Province Said Abdi Ali Shire, provincial education Minister and several other top officials from Sool.
The delegation was on a working trip to the small town of Taleeh when militia that was send from the capital of Puntland Garowe ambushed them killing the education director of Taleeh city and taking hostage the rest of the delegation. This Puntland assult on Somaliland government officials does not come as surprise to most since the two regional authorities have not had a good working relationship in yeras.Somaliland government has not spoken about this morning’s attack on Somaliland government official as they were performing their civic duties. Puntland has paraded the captured officials in local TVs and websites as the captured officials sit in jail.Stay tune to SomalilandPress as we try to get more update of the current status of the abducted officials.

somaliland government has failed to secure our borders. Puntland was founded only 13 years ago and to day is challenging somaliland! That's pure disgrace to us. To day what would have i done if i were the defence minister of somaliland, i would have crushed puntland militia. somaliland needs to form special paramilitary unit that can crush any group/militia that violates our borders. How dare can they kidnap our officials? seriously somaliland needs an air force to support ground forces puntland let alone entire somalia wont dare to attack somaliland.
Subxan Allah. Thanks Somaliland for the information. I'm shocked at the so called militia in Garowe and part of the semi autonomous region calling itself Puntland. Who are fast becoming second worst terrorisers after Alshabab. Why isn't TFG and AU reining in these renegades. Somaliland has to confront the security issues within its borders for the sake of the poor people. Who I am sure are still suffering from the lack of food and water as these areas were worst hit. These renegades are praying on these people and in Ramadan at that. Somaliland really needs the international world to pay attention to the need for their sovereignty to be able to safe guard their people.
The somaliland army is able to crush those millitias but its too carefull in engaging fully. This would harm Somalilands reputation as a peaceful region in an unstable region. Maybe a small UN peacekeeping force in that region? Like ethio/eritrea border. At least it would bring more international attention and security.

The militia in Garowe are not happy with the leader of Puntland as well as other groups lead my Atom. He is loosing control as he heads towards the end of leadership. Faroole has apparently requested for an extra year as leader. Which is causing a rift between him and others who want him out. Puntland may well be heading towards kaos.
Somaliland militia was trespassing Taleh ,Puntland because it doesn't belong doesn't to Somaliland. They were trying to unbush the peace loving Puntland militia who were just released the ship carrying fuel to Somaliland which hijacked by the pirates. It is Ramadaan we have to not lie. I think this is the load that broke the camel's back, Somaliland's patience is really being worn out. So far Somaliland has been very patient in trying to give peace a chance, but it would seem Majeerteenia is only interested in creating mischief and insecurity. Puntland has been behind the relentless killings of NGO, Women, security officers trying to maintain the peace and now the murdering of unarmed deligations unaccompanied by security forces. This just further highlights the pirate states dirty tactics. It has been trying to deliberately provoke this peace-loving democratic nations (Somaliland) and Somaliland has proudly tried every thing possible to not be drawn into unnecessary skirmishes with this autocratic pirate invested nation. It was just recently that Puntland hijacked the ship carrying fuel for Somaliland from the international water near Oman. The ship was taken to Boosaaso, a pirate strong hold, hoping to extract ransom money from Somaliland, but after wise Elders had intervene, the ship was released without ransom. This just shows that this tribal state wants to use piracy and insecurity to finance its deplorable actions and to maintain and promote the legacy that Siad Bare had left to them, to exploit tribalism, promote hate and misinformation and undermine the rare peace and tranquility that exists in this region,
Somaliland should not tolerate this provocative action of an autocratic government bent on establishing a tribal enclave. Somaliland gov. must enact new policy towards this autocratic, terrorist and pirate invested state before it destabilizes this peace-loving democratic nation or before it ignites tribal wars in this region, some thing we can't afford. Somalilander's in the diaspora need to also wake up to the activities of these groups as they hold meetings and raise money in the West, particularly in the UK, Canada and the US which is sent as remittance though certain Hawaalad offices. We should organize and send emails to the appropriate authorities in those countries to demand that they investigate these people and monitor their activities i.e. such as sending continuous stream of money in small quantities $500-$1000 Dollars, or by using shady businesses. We need to explain to those authorities that this money is being used not for famine relieve but to support terrorist and pirate related activities in Puntland against peace-loving stable nation of Somaliland in the form of NGO assassinations and other killings.
These tactics are not surprising, since Puntland isn't brave enough to fight an open war. Another important point is that this is also taking place while a high level delegation is on route to china to discuss mining for energy among other things. What other worse way is there than to demonstrate to a potential investor that the client can not protect their own borders. Regardless of what their true intentions were this has gone on long enough. Somaliland can not simply continue entertaining this game of cat and mouse with Faroole and his merry band.
Somaliland should conduct an emergency meeting, make their intentions known to the international community and then punish Puntland. And what better way is there than to place GAROWE on military siege and utterly destroy their forces. I would also make known to the Warsengali that if they want to stand with the MJs then they will get their teeth knocked out too!

The Warsangali are part and parcel of Somaliland so there will never be a conflict with them. However, those thugs who side with the Bugland militia should be taught a lesson.
Shame to so-called pugland authorities, instead of engaging militarily with Somaliland armed forces they ambushed unarmed civilian leaders. These is nothing but thuggery. Somaliland government should let the world communities know what this criminals called pugland stand for. The pirates in Garowe didn't capture a ship last two months so they took their frustrations at those officials…its time Somaliland and the international community punished the pirates.

Somalia is a terrible victim of the drought but all that you mentioned is found in the semi-autonomous region of Somalia i.e puntland
also many in south Somalia is born or grown up in a war zone where people kidnap kill for 20years so a lot of them became thugs and less sensitive to killings and deaths which is a sad story. The truth is that other news sources are saying that Taleeh is claimed by Puntland and those captured were heavily armed and in fact engaged in a fire fight with Puntland militia. Puntland and Somaliland should sit down together and have honest conversation and try to put down the fire. Puntland should release the prisoners and Somaliand should stop any provocation that may worsen already tense situation.
Of course that is what they are saying! Isn't that what they always say? And when things get serious they fold, cry foul and are the first to call for peaceful negotiations. They don't want peace and their too cowardly to fight.

The captured men were not armed and did not engage in any fire fight,
they were on a peace and development mission in Taleeh, secondly they are local residents who had different political view therefore this is a declaration of war by the Puntland and they are responsible for whatever steps The Republic of Somaliland takes and I am sure they will take strong action against these cowardly ambush.
This is the latest provocation from puntland., regardless of the motives somaliland must not continue to ignore this for the sake of peace. Peace is in the interest of both sides, puntland operates on a principle that if it can get away with something than it will, meaning they only understand one language risks vs consequences. A full scale war is not necessary a cold war were somaliland assassinates high value targets is sufficient detergent.

Somaliland Militias crossed into Puntland territories to stir up problems..and plz don't tell me they werent armed when the sool military commander Mohamed dhodi was among those trespassers..what else did you expect would happened? you cross in to other people lands with military commanders and government officials and you expect flowers and kisses from them? tell your "delegation" to stay out of Puntland.
Puntland will continue to secure it's legitimate border from evasive and invading terrorists collaborating with Al-Shabaab militants of the North, especially the leader known as Sheikh Atam who has not only professed his loyalty to Al Shabaab but has openly called for the destruction of Puntland State.

Secondly a delegation of Mps accompanied by 2-5 military commanders hardly qualifies as an invasion party. Thirdly, all trash talk aside, if Puntland was strong enough to back up its empty talk they would have been able to capture Sool and Sanaag, but that is not the case.

It does matter, because normal people hold people for questioning instead of killing them. It does matter if the people you are killing are in fact RESIDENTS of Taleh heading home and not outsiders. It does matters if the men killed are unarmed MPs on a mission of peace and not soldiers.

We, Somalilanders are appealing to the international community to condemn Puntland for creating insecurity in the Sool region -Somaliland's territory. Puntland should release Somaliland prisoners immediately. The prisoners were unarmed and travelling throught their home land.

How can Puntland militia claim Somaliland people crossed their borders when the people they kidnapped are from that area. The Education Minister was a Taleex residents as well as the 19 others. Also why would they take them to Garowe if indeed Taleex was their border. Why didn't they just hold them in their own prisons? Why kidnapped them to another city?. The reason is because it isn't theirs and the people did want them their. Puntland has been harrassing and terrorising these towns for the past 4years forcing them and not giving them peace.

They tried to pin this on Somaliland people and Kalshaale, but it back fired on their media which more than often decimates here say and innuendo as news. At that time their plot was exposed leading to the expulsion of universal TV from Somaliland. These things are concocted here in those coffee shop and since most of these so-called Majeerteenia Media operate in these Western nations, they often publish these as concocted news. Ask them to provide the evidence that security officials were accompanying these civilian government officials beside the Taliyaha Ciidanka Taleex who was accompanying the delegation on his way home to Taleex or show the technicals that you claimed to have captured as you were quick to show the members of the delegation and their vehicles. Puntlanders are well-known cowards, like Waryaa stated, if all you claim is true, why not capture Laas Aanood, rest of Sool and Sanaag.

Killing innocent Somali People and taking them hostages was a crime specially in the holly month of Ramadan. I think the intension of Farole is to push us into unnesesary war not at the expense if fellow Majeerteen, but Warsanagali and Dhubahate in the name of Harti. Though I am no fan of Silanyo and his murderous past, I tend to agree most of the time with my fellow Somalis in Somaliland when it comes to these types of issues. I try to delink murderous Silanyo from the average Somalilander in these passionate discussions. It appears the provocateurs are usually from Puntland. I hope an amicable solution between the two regions is found, and found soon. I try to be neutral here because the very Somalis in Puntland demonstrated in support of Djibouti when Eritrea annexed an Island North of Djibouti. We wish no harm on any Somalis.

The delegation all reside from the region , so why arrest them ? Faroley is doing the same as siyad barreh i.e Taking Advantage of the warsangaly and Dulbahants allegiance to their Harti and using that as driving force for his own Agenda. It is just a shame that they don't realize it , and fall blind to the whole SSC movement, when in reality they have lived in them regions peacefully for years under the administration of Somaliland. News just came out today sayin that the residents who live in Taleex say that it is part of Somaliland territory. In fact it always has been since the colonial era so Majeertenia can shut their dirty mouths.
