Somaliland: Puntland Government hands out lengthy prison terms to ambushed Somaliland officials en route to Taleeh

GAROWE (SomalilandPress)— Puntland’s Highest Court today handed 10 year prison terms to the ambushed Somaliland officials who were en route to Taleeh when they were snatched by Puntland militias armed with heavy weapons. It was on 10th August whilst this delegation was on a working visit to the small town of Taleeh located within the Somaliland borders that a Puntland militia ambushed the Somalilanders killing one official and kidnapping the remainder of the delegation. The delegation consisted of all the top officials from Sool province, ranging from the Attorney General of Sool to the Minister of Education of Sool province.
Sheikh Abdinur Jama, the Chief Magistrate of Puntland court in pronouncing sentence claimed that; “…the defendants have been found guilty of illegally crossing into the border of Puntland and have under mined the sovereignty of Puntland”. The Puntland Government has been seeking to make propaganda out of the people they are holding captive and have been parading the hostages since the first day on local television and across the media.
The families of the hostages are concerned for the health and well-being of those held hostage and critical of the fact that the Government of Somaliland has thus far chosen to remain silent concerning this ruling.

I just reposted by response to your earlier question about where I get by information. I did this so you don't think I am avoiding you in any way kkkk
Firstly, there hasn't been a census in Somalia for sometime, but there are definitely other ways to get the facts.
1. Somali History books – For example – "Failed State by Abdullahi Dool" is a fair and good book to read
2. I read any and every newspaper sites as much as possible to get the WHOLE picture and not half truths.
– I read newspapers from borama, Hargeisa, Burco, Las Anod, Las Quory, Cayanabo, Garowe, Hiraan, and even Galgala. By reading what most of the medias are saying it becomes easy to avoid large degrees of Bias
3. I read what the non-Somali (white people) are saying about situation in Somalia – blogs, history etc.
4. I also read what the kenyans and Ethiopians are saying and their views on the situation in Somalia
5. I watch debates on youtube, lectures and conferences. i.e. chatham house, Samatar brothers etc.
6. Believe it or not most clan elder meetings are now also posted online. Ie. Youtube
7. There are many decent ex-somali politicians, engineers, and military commanders and I do run into them often. But when I do, I like to ask them questions to understand why this and that happened. I discuss with them what I have read and they more often than not are willing to clarify or add to what I have read.
8. Finally, I like to understand what the various tribal biases are and understand their root causes and background. It is a complete lie or is there some truth to this generalization.
Finally, I said before that caynabo (sool) region was 55-60% Isaaq, but after double checking its actually 75% (21/28 local districts) and the Dhulbhante 25% (7/28)

What it tells me is you have a lot of free time on your hands. Just kidding! I watched the video of the two elders speak and as a Djiboutian this is all new to me. I wouldn't know where Caynabo was on a map if my life depended on it. I thought Widh-Widh was a typo…lol. Cynics would say this guy was paid off or they can't trust Silanyo because of his past. These are not my views, in fact, I do not have a view on this matter one way or another.

Anyhow, your people and the Dhulbahante should get along. How? I wish I knew. I think they feel a bit overwhelmed and concerned for their future. The same sentiment expressed by the Yemeni Arabs and Isaaks during Djibouti's struggle for independence. They thought we'd slaughter them, especially the Arabs who almost always sided with the French. Thankfully that did not happen. I hate to see a Muslim killing a Muslim over such matters.
Listen, we have our own challenges (malcontents) to deal with. The Afars are always a thorn on our side. I should probably say, some Afars are a thorn on our side, not all. Will there ever be an Afar president in Djibouti? In due time with multiparties. But remember Afars ran Djibouti during colonial era. Will there ever be a Gadabursi or Isaaq president in Djibouti? What about Somaliland do you not like or agree with? If it's Kulmiye then a new law has been passed where more political parties could be created. The Dhulbhante can create their own party or 2-3 parties, run for office and help improve the Somaliland. The next president could be Dhulbhante and no one would mind.
Secondly, is your beef with Silanyo? If it is then he is a mortal man. He is here today and will be gone tomorrow like all of us. This I would argue isn't a legitimate reason to go to war. No one in the UK thinks about going to war just because the labour party lost and David Cameron is the prime minister.
The question the Dhulbhante should be asking themselves is – what is the best and most peaceful solution for my people? Who can we work with? Who will give us our rights and respect us? etc.

These people are cowards. When there was the skirmish between the SSC militia and the Somaliland army in Buhodle early this year. They sealed their border and announced that they were not with the SSC and they were never going to accept problems. They left the SSC militia whom they armed out in the cold.
They were afraid that if thei fight became intense, it would spill into Garowe and they would have problems.
Early last year when Somaliland Army crossed into Puntland to chase those they armed. The Somaliland governmentw as begged by the elders to stop the advance of the army.
No in war they would loose everything. This is a way of fueling hatred and try to turn the Dulbahante against Somalialnd.

By the way, I am Habar Younis (ceerigabo branch) and the tricks used by Puntland in Las Anod will not work on us. This is purely provocative move, but Somaliland will standby its citizens and politicians and will ultimately secure their release. This just highlights the blatant belligerence of Majeerteenia and the length they will go to in instigating mischief in this beautiful month of Ramadan among muslim brothers on both side of the borders. Our people in Somaliland including Taleex are aware of their poor tactics and patience will prevail. If peace doesn't prevail and they refuse to release those good men and compensate for what they have done, Somaliland will take an action appropriate to this provocation. Ultimately thought it is gonna be difficult to have a Democratic government to coexist peacefully with an Autocratic government that relies on piracy, terrorism, tribalism and sickestism as main strategies for survival and for hanging on to power.

puntland is like a small annoying child, forever fidgeting, won't sit still, likes attention, hates to be ignored, mischievous with a lack of self-control. Eventually, the child grows up and matures, or gets disciplined.
This is all propaganda for the local consumption, eventually, these officials will be released, and puntland will go back to being that annoying child, until the child grows up or get disciplined.
Everything that goes up must come down. Puntland/majeerteeniya will face their fate one day not far Insha'Allah. It won't be that long either. It is ironic how this small land has brought nothing but pain and devastation for all their neighbours aswell as the poor pastoral lands living as far as kenya and other areas.
Maritime Piracy is costing the international communtiy billions of money which means that this cost will be charged back to haunt the poor African business be it in the Horn or Eastern Africa nations especially the vulnerable pastoral communities who will suffer the most. This is already affecting large populations who would loose their livelihoods because of the economic downfall of the priacy in the Horn.
Majeerteeniya thinks that they are hurting Somaliland but soon they will realise that their very existence will be in question when so many livelihoods disappear from the Horn and East Africa because of their dubious crimes against humanity. They are playing with false economy and pride which will not last for long.
It is a matter of time when the global world who is already suffering from economic collapse realises that these cowboys should be dealt with once and for all. Their government should be charged with economic crimes against humanity not to mention all the human trafficking that is going in their ports. Puntland/Majeerteniya have only proved to the world that their time has come and it is time their crimes should be forwarded to Hague and let us see how they can defend themselves when they are brought under trial for the economic crimes they have committed against humanity and the international law. The time of pateince is wearing out and they are not doing themselves any favour either.

Puntland kidnapped locals from Tuleh and put them behind bars in retaliation for Somaliland's imprisonment of Puntland pirates. Basically Puntland is a mafia state ran by the Somali pirates, there is no other motive behind kidnapping locals from their homes in Tuleh and giving them this sort of prison term.
Somaliland has sentenced Puntland criminal sea pirates to 15-20 years in the past, this is how Pirateland responded.
It's about time the international community put an end to piracy and the mafia state in Garowe.
Even if their claim for "federalism" holds any water, I don't know any federal state that prisons citizens from other federal state within a common border. Pirates are getting desperate.
