Somaliland: President Welcomes Italian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister

HARGEISA(SomalilandPress)–Somaliland president Mr. Ahmed Mohamoud Siilaanyo meets high level delegation from Italy compromising of seven members. According to press release issued from the presidential spokesman Mr. Abdilahi Mohamed Daahir ‘Cukuse,’ Somaliland president Mr. Siilaanyo held a high level meeting with Italian delegation. The meeting was held at the office of the president today as the press release states.
The Italian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Senatore Alfredo Mantina is heading the delegate.
Somaliland president and the Italian delegation discussed in lengthy the bilateral relation between Somaliland and Italy. The delegation told that the main reason behind coming to the country is to know the real situation on the ground. Italian deputy foreign affairs minister Mr. Senatore Alfredo Mantica congratulated on Somaliland president when it comes to the good governance and that Somaliland government managed to sustained law and order.
Italian deputy foreign affairs minister further added that the y came to country in order to inform
Somaliland government that the Italian government will work closely with Somaliland. Somaliland president briefed the delegation on Somaliland history and he added that Somaliland people and its government is awaiting the international community to recognize and extend a helping hand when it comes to the efforts that it made.
The president of Somaliland was accompanied by the vice president Mr. Abdirahman Abdilahi Ismail Saylici, Foreign affairs minister Dr. Mohamed Abdilahi Omar, planning and development minister Dr. Sacad Ali Shire, health minister Dr. Husein Mohumed Mohamed and minister for the presidential office Mr. Hirsi Ali Haji Hasan. The Italian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Senatore Alfredo Mantica was accompanied by Elisabetta Bolloni, General Director for cooperation and development for the Italian planning ministry, Rosa Anna Coniglio who is the General Director for the Italian planning ministry which is special to the cooperation of Africa and Sub-Sahara and the Italian ambassador to Kenya and four other senior officials.

Moche questo problemo qui Italia, excuse my Italian, I was in Italy for only 5 days on transit in the mid eighties. What I meant is; what is wrong with Italians coming to Somaliland? This is a good thing in my opinion "better visited than forgotten". How about that?

Has Italy giving up Somalia and turn to Somaliland at last? I think so & yes a bit too late but we welcome any body who is interesting in our affairs & wants to know more about our country.
I don't possibly think it's good idea to underestimate the Italians. Although they are not that active on the international stage compare to the US, UK and the French. But yet again they are a major European economic power and of course the former masters of our Southern cousins (Somalia). Anyway, I believe that Somaliland needs today more friends and less enemies until we easily reach our utmost destination. No matter how long it takes.
true, we need to make friends not enemies. lets hope they make contribution and not just empty visits.

I have no particular bias against Italy as an EU Country but look at Somalia as compared to Somaliland.
Dealing with the West UK US French top my imaginationss. Again the UK tops my Imagination of the

i heard they came to pirateland first to secure a release of 11 Italian sailors who has been abducted by the pirateland people, but i dont know their visit to Somaliland is any connection to secure the release of the Italians,,, but i agree with Dalmar and Amal we need more friends rather than enemies,,
Wake up Italians, you've come too late to congraluate the dying president. You may give him some medicine so that he can divide his people into hostile tribes. Remember how he has divided Issa Musa tribe in their recent meeting. He has had a fight wtih their money and they were not able to defend themselves.

Who cares where he went first, that is not important. What is important is what was discussed in the meetings and believe me the level of discussion were so different. One was about the release of hostages the other was discussions about bilateral relations and international issues of common interest, Somalia and Kenya were discussed in-depth. the discussions were carried out in an atmosphere of friendship and the points of view of Somaliland and Italian parties were identical.

@ Faraxs FYI Italians they visited Pirateland just to secure 11 Italian hostages that is been abdusted by the Pirateland people But as Mr Dhugtame says Somaliland case is totlay different so please do you home work b4 you say some irrelevant to the topic

exactly, why else will they visit pirateland. Obviously to first secure their hostages and then give a piece of their mind not to ever bother them again and to control the pirates they let loose who kidnap everyone.
