Somaliland: President Silanyo Sacks Information Minister

Somaliland President H.E. Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud (silanyo) today issued a Presidential decree NO JSL/M/XILQ/249/1-1280/082012 dismissing the Minister of information and National Guidance Hon Abdurrahman yusuf Du’ale(Boobe) with immediate effect.
The Presidential Decree state as follows, the President of Somaliland on behalf of the People of Somaliland wishes to express gratitude’s to Hon Abdurrahman yusuf Du’ale(Boobe) for his services to the nation .
President Silanyo has appointed the current Minister of Defense Hon Ahmed Haji Ali Cadami to head and assume full responsibility of the Information Ministry as of 29th of August with immediate effect.
The firing of the Information Minister comes two days after he fired the Director of SLNTV Mr. Ahmed Saleban Dhuxul and the Director of Dawan Media Group Mr. Mohamed Osman mire (Sayid) both staunch supporters of President Silanyo.
It’s not clear what really prompted the dismissal of the information Minister who has been in the post for just few months now.

Boobe should never have left the Somaliland Academy for Peace. I know it is an honour to be called to serve your country, but there are other ways to serve your country. I guess, Boobe thought he was trying to fix a ministry that has become a byword for failure. No national transmitter, the national television is like Pravda! no national programmes to bring cohesion to the country. No co-operation with the independent media (more like suffocation).

Regardless of the intellectuality of Boobe, and the underlined causes for his removal which's
not revealed, we could only assume that his removal should have stemmed from a good
reason to take such decisive action by the Presidential offices!. Also how come the Defence
Minister Cadami takes over in acting capacity, what does this tell us? Is Cadami also going
to lose his Defence Job?. All these changes are not big deals, since the Govt of Silaanyo
is a radical Govt that formularizes major changes aimed at improving good practical governance.
However, now that a new big Hargeisa Radio station is installed, it would be equally advangeous
to put the Ministry of Information under a capable younger highly educated candidate with high
quality axademic journalistic and Engineering backgrounds or similar faculties.

I don't understand all the fuss in this normal transition for Boobe. No position should be considered for life whether in the public in the private sectors, that's why even the highest office in the land is in terms.
Boobe has done a magnificent job while he held that post, now, he can offer his great depth of knowledge in other areas of need if he desires.

Firing three directors of same Ministry simultaneously with unknown motives looks absurd!
In my opinion Mr. Boobe was out of touch and hardly understood his role in a democratic government. To begin with, he was nominated after Mohamed Haashi was sacked and I think he assumed the president was too weak to fire him. That is why he not only once but multiple times took Mohamed Abdillahi and Samaale to Gabiley and bragged that they hailed from Gabiley and will do everything to build Gabiley. This contradicted his role as a minister for all Somaliland regions.
Sacking three directors in one go with seeking approval of the president was another disgraceful move.
He recently traveled to South Africa on "private" trip according to him that was " privately funded" also according to him to promote Somaliland. This shows that he does not understand his role in the government and assumes that he was able to manipulate the democratically elected government in his favor like he did with academy of peace and development.
There are unconfirmed rumors out there saying, he embezzled record monies in the short time he was heading this ministry.
Whatever the reason for his dismissal might be, the President has the last call to hire or fire anyone. Many were fired before Boobe and many will follow, this is democracy in the works,so let us move on and get with the program.
Dhugtame, I must disagree. The Somaliland Ministry of Information and Guidance is one of the weakest department in the government. Boobe was brought in to shake things up. He tried, he failed, because he removed people who were using the resources of the ministry for their own private agenda.
Why do you think more people tune into stations like Horn Cable, BBC, A-Jazeera, etc, because they don't want government propaganda. Furthermore, the ministry is tasked with creating a suitable climate for free speach to flourish, to bring about a national cohesion. It cannot even get the national radio station to reach the regions of Somaliland, Sonna is neglected, forget about a national newspaper. As for the independent media, instead of a friend, its like cats and mice.
The ministry is Somaliland's spokesperson, and its not doing its job.

The so called foreign minister has been placed under house of arrest. He is not allowed to go anywhere and do his "job" any more because he is not a member of the Garadaag mafia financed by Dhiigshiil.

You have all the rights to disagree with me and I congratulate you for doing so. I agree with you that the Ministry of information is the weakest ministry after the ministry of foreign affairs. I also agree with you that Boobe was brought in to bring in change, but he did not bring changes to improve the standard of his ministry, but used it as his fathers street corner shop. The guy is devoid of self-respect and is politically cheap. Attacking the first lady is testimony to his cheap personality. Please, ask him to stop crying and to handover the entrusted responsibilities in a dignified way. I doubt Boobe has any dignity at all.
President Silanyo trusts Hirsi as his confidant. Nothing is wrong with this. It doesn't matter whether this confidant is your relative or someone else you believe is trustworthy. Another point worthy of mentioning is that Somalis in nature are chatty and can't understand how to keep government secrets. During Riyale's tenure, what was being discussed inside the presidential palace was immediately heard in the streets. Thus Hersi is a citizen of Somaliland and deserves to be known like this. As far as Boobe's dismissal is concerned, the president is empowered by the constitution to do what he sees as appropriate for the sake of the country. The president knows the reasons behind this dismissal and he is not obliged to explain it. It is part of his duties. We somalilanders should avoid talking about trivialities and concentrate on big issues to criticize the government.
