Djibouti and Somaliland discuss relations

HARGEISA — Somaliland president Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo arrived back home amid escalating crisis in Buhoodle region after local militia rebel members launched a pre-dawn assault on military base in Buhoodle town on Tuesday.

Silaanyo returned to the country after wrapping up two day visit to neighboring Ethiopia where he held high-level talks with Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. The two countries discussed security, trade and other bilateral issues.

Mr. Silanyo also stopped over in Djibouti where he discussed strengthening cooperation between the two countries and the regional situation with President Ismail Omar Guelleh.

The Somaliland president told local media that his visit was aimed at consolidating bilateral good-neighbourliness, brotherhood and advancing pragmatic common interest between the two countries. “Djibouti and Somaliland are two neighboring countries and brother united by many common interests, and my visit aims to consolidate them” he said.

He also emphasized that participating in the upcoming Somali conference in london will not affect the integrity and sovereignty of Somaliland.

“Taking part in the conference does not mean that we gave up, in any way or form, in what has for many years been our ultimate goal, that access to international recognition and have
our place in the comity of nations,” he said.

The president was given ruptures welcome at Egal airport and was received by country’s vice president, speaker of National Assembly, several ministers, and people who turned out to welcome their leader.

Along with the first Lady Amina Sheikh Mohamed Waris, the President was leading a large delegation including the Minister of Presidential Affairs Hirsi Ali Hajji Hassan and Interior Minister Mohamed Nur Arreh.

If the report that the majority of the captured prisoners from the Buhoodle skirmish between Somali land military forces and a militia said to be fighting to secede from Somali land hail from Ethiopia and different other regions of Somalia, then it is doubtless that these people are seeking to reoccupy Somali land. This kind of thinking is unrealistic at this time, because fundamental changes have happened in the region where things are mingled and do not have any semblance with the old conceptions of Somalicism.

I agree with Abraham, I understand the first lady welcome the president but what is wrong with these ministers they need to do their jobs. The president is not king but an elected official let treat him a such.

    @Issa,

There is no Issak land but there is only one country called Somaliland. And those mischievious tribla fighters would be crashed as they do not have the support of most of Dulbahante. Enemity would not solve the problem. Insecurity will cause only problems to Boohodle community. A militi who comes from nowhere for a suprise attack on the army is only like a lion fighting an elephant. Let the dulbahante of buhoodle have the common sense prevail and sit down and talk to the government of what problems they have. We have dulbahantes who are ministers in the government of somaliland. But it is not possible every clan on the corner of Somaliland to have a ministerial position. Let them join their brothers and build their poverty region.

Viva Somaliland, the so called Khaatumo State is nothing and will get nowhere they have no port, agriculture, no water their land is barren it has nothing only a few historic buildings and that's it they chose to break away (not really) from there brothers (i.e. Somaliland) who had the ports, the agriculture, water etc. We'll just have wait and see what they'll do.

The SSC land was actually found to contain oil. Which would benefit The inhabitants of both Somaliland and the Khaatumo state. They should simply find a way to work together and stop this fighting. I agree with you about the so called Khaatumo state not having access to a port which is vital

Why our president Silanyo usualy has to be the one who visits Meles but on the other hand Meles never ones visits mr Silanyo in Hargeysa even if it is their own interest.

all he has to do is snap his finger and mr Silanyo will drop everything and get on first plane to addis. I dont really understand why degrade ourself like that, it is not like we get any sort of subsidizes or recognition, in fact the raw eater midget would go out of his way to thwart recognition at any given opportunity.

    Man, how i despise him

    Osman,

You have to be man enough not to be offended by every little "nothing". Our president and most of our populous are content with themsleves and their situations. We have been thrown lemons and we have chosen to make lemonades rather than throw the lemons back.
