SOMALILAND: Police launch manhunt in Seemaal murders

January 4, 2012   ·   6 Comments

HARGEISA — Somaliland security forces have apprehended one man and are on the lookout for nine thought to be connected to the murder of three locals in Seemaal village, Minister announced.

The Interior minister, Mohamed Nuur Arale, publicly announced the names of all nine fugitives during a security session held in the farming town of Gabiley on Wednesday. Mr. Arale said they were launching a nationwide manhunt to bring them to justice and further appealed for public support. He revealed that one of the two drivers who assisted the suspects was arrested and that he has been cooperative to police. He said the other driver remains at large but they were closing in on him. He urged the men to turn themselves in. In early December three local men from Seemaal village near the Baki township were gunned down.

The meeting convened by Mr. Arale was also attended by Minister of Public Works, Chief of Staff of the armed forces and police Commissioner, they all promised to assist.

In the final outcome of their meeting, the security forces have agreed to shot anyone carrying a weapon in the disputed farmland where the murders took place. Somaliland officials said two communities were fighting over farms situated between Awdal and Gabiley provinces. Just days ago police clashed with an armed mob in the same area and said they were deploying more to prevent reprisal attacks.

The wanted men are:

1: Cawar Xareed, the suspected ring leader of the group

2. Osman Ali Duale “Dagle”

3. Jimale Yabal Hirsi

4: Shucayb Osman Hirsi “Go’aaye”

5. Afyuub Adan Dagal “Fadhi”

6. Yasiin Ahmed Nuur “Quful”

7: Abdi Omar Osman

8: Maqas Mohumed Maal

9: Mukhtar Hussein Gacmay

Crime experts in Somaliland said police needed the public to step forward with information in the Seemaal killings so for once the community could heal.

We want justice to prevail and all criminals get their day in court. A lot has changed with Kulmiye administration and finally we are getting the names of alleged criminals instead of accusations against entire clan. Law and order will not be established unless we find the criminal and punish him for the crimes he committed.

Killing anyone with gun not only in the Dilla-Gabiley district but throughout Somaliland is the right thing to do. Only qualified and law enforcement agents should be the only ones with guns, in turn, the security forces must protect all citizen without favourtism.

This is a turning point in Somaliland justice system. Drop the gun or be shot. Finally someone acting like a government.

I salute the findings and the nine fugitives will not hide forever. Somaliland enemies who are trying to use the incident to incite tribal violence have been silenced. Whenever justice is served, evil and the enemy are kept quiet.

First of all, congratulation to Minister Duur, the Police commissioner and Somaliland armed force chief of staff For the job well done. What is left is for these criminals to be captured and brought to Somaliland justice.

The crime that happened on December 9th, was against, Somaliland sovereignty against our Moslem religion and our culture.

whoever did this crime and their supporters should face Somaliland justice. This is a savage act that anyone with common sense, should have reframe from.
