Hargeisa-The famed Somaliland poet Mohamed Hashi Dhamac( Gaariye) has passed away today in an Oslo hospital, in the Norwegian capital city the new of his death has been confirmed to the media by his close relatives.

The renowned poet had spent a good part of this year in hospital undergoing treatment for longtime illness . Messages from the broad spectrum of Supporters of the Late Gaariye have pouring into our news desk Gaariye, with many conveying their heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and entire Somaliland people at home and abroad for losing him.

The late Mohamed Hashi Damac will be best remembered for the part he took in the struggle against the tyrant Said Barre and his blood hungry forces.

The initiator of the famous Poetic Combat Chain better known as “DEELLEY” and author of “HAGARLAAWE”, Gaarriye’s eminence as an established poet is known among Somali speaking communities and is celebrated in Somali region. His contributions to Somali literature and culture as a poet, scholar, liberal thinker and social personality over the past three gruesome decades are well recognised.

Equally appreciated in no smaller measure are his indefatigable advocacy of human rights, freedom of thought and expression, and his vehement hatred of all forms of human degradation so brilliantly articulated in his poetry. In this regard, his master pieces on ‘Nuclear Weapons’.. ‘Nelson Mandela’.. ‘Watergate’.. ‘Zimbabwe’ readily spring to the mind.

The Late Gaariye was born in Hargeisa in 1951, he spent most of his early years in Hargeisa were he had primary and secondary studies in 1970s,he enrolled the Somali National University College in Afgoye and earned the Bachelor of Science in 1974. He taught different secondary schools in the 1976.
