Hargeisa (Somalilandpress) –Somaliland Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Abdullahi Omar today express gratitude to the US government for its new strategy towards Somaliland. Dr. Omar spoke about the US Government’s new strategy with Somaliland during an interview by BBC Somali Service with Ahmed Egeh. Minister Omar when on to say “we are very pleased with this change from the US Government and we look forward to dealing with them directly”.
It was last week when Assistant Secretary of State Johnnie Carson said U.S officials were developing ties with authorities in both Somaliland and Puntland. This is the first time that the US government has expressed its desire to work directly with Somaliland.
The Minister also note that US AID is planning to open an office in Hargeisa and that its funding has increased from 7 million last year to 26 million dollars this year which shows how the US government is already helping Somaliland. The two top priorities that the Somaliland government plans to ask help from the US government are job creation for the youth and the development of drinking water system. Majority of Somaliland’s population are under the age of twenty five and ninety seven percent of them are unemployed which can be seen as a hot recruiting ground for Al-Shabaab unless jobs are created for the youth. In the case of the drinking water Somaliland is now experiencing a huge population growth due to new refugees arriving from South Somalia and the Oromo refugees from Ethiopia.

The Somaliland Minister for Foreign Affairs DR. Mohamed Omar will
undoubtedly spare no efforts to further the good relationships with the USA
UK, and all the other International forums to bring about peace and prosperity
to the Northern Somaliland Republic under the able leadership of
the new Kulmiye Party to take care and focus on the political dynamics surrounding the Horn/East African bloc countries and how The new Party strategy could compete in such political playgrounds.
Cheers.
It is sad that somaliland has turned for help to USA rather than making good relations with the Islamic world. Now America will ask Somaliland Government to do its dirty work of killing other Musllims.
Secondly, America will tell Somaliland Government to remain part of the Greater Somalia and the governemnt of Somaliland will never say NO to them. Once you drink the American Dollar you are in their pocket. Hence, Somalialnd should distance itself from USA Government.
Another note for the Somalialanders is that they have to try to help and Support the Hawiye Tribe in their fight to be independent from the Darood Tribe. Somalialnders and Hawiye have a common enemy, the Darood Tribe.
Dear Ali
i know through inference that you are not a true Somalilander as am,otherwise why are you bent to create problems and unnecessary enmity for Somaliland.Remember some Darood brothers are entitled to the same rights and honor i aspire to archive.a piece of advice to the sick minds and hearts, hatred is the enemy of good character ,Islam and Somaliland.
I am a true somalilander but you've already created multiple problems to very one concerned and I do think, you'll continue to create wars which will disrupt other people's lives. I think you are one of those double faced people by pretending to be a Somalilander but at sametime aiming to destroy it.
To get engage with the US is the word here. As world politics has neither permanent friends, nor permanent enemies, Somaliland government should always balance its politics for the interest of the nation.
Also Somaliland should engage with its neighbours i.e Ethiopia, Djibouti and Somalia (again engage is the word – not surrender).
Good news..US, is the head of world states, the Arab world is too weak to help Somaliland, they have to sort their own problems first. They are also selfish and afraid of any separatist movements. America is our choice. The other Islamic world, we welcome them with open hands, be it Turkey, Iran, Malaysia and the likes. I think the Arab world doesn't like Somaliland at all, AU is also busy with solving her own problems. So it is good choice. Long Live Somaliland.
For those of you who are talking about surrender and inclination to US policies,my answer is too simple. Somaliland is a soveriegn state, no one can dictate her what to do and which route to follow. This is relations and diplomacy,; I wonder why whenever we get some help from a western country some of us shout at their uttermost, saying we are surrendering ourselves. I agree with the minister all what he requested from US. Drinking water and Job creation. So is that a kind of surrender?? Finally, we can have good relations with the neighboring countries but at the end it is not similar to that of US.
Speaking as a Texan-American, please — don't give any ground whatsoever on your status as a sovereign state!
OMG just so u know by the statement you did you'll get hundreds of replies of facts and opinion……….was this necessarily?
Well, I did feel it was necessary, as some people seemed to be mentioning compromising sovereignity for temporary cash. That's a bad idea, right now, believe me.
Musa: Do not trust America and its allies, we are not expecting much from them as they still show reluctance to recognize us. They became desperate about the formation of a new strong government from Somalia and now they turn their desperate back to us because of the coming danger and systematic build up of Al-qaida safe heaven in the Horn. They are not friends but foe whose aims are to use people or country when they are in need of them. It is just a little dream that will soon fade away.
M.J.Musa.
Because of failure in South Somalia.. Somaliland is making the right moves. These moves not only benefit the people of SOmaliland but also spark a sense of understanding for the South of what an Ideal State should be like…Somaliland should be real careful of who it makes deals with because history shows that United States only helps nations that it benefits from… But this energy from this new government is crucial in the structural formation of the country…. Somaliland should also consider the importance of union between the other 2 regions of Puntland and Somalia… a democracy is very weaker in a small republic then a union of many regions… The people in these regions descended from a single set of ancestors; share a single language, religion, and customs… Beyond ancestor similarities safety and security are crucial in this region and with a region that is united other nations like the UNited states will be not able to spark conflicts among the regions as prior history shows the conflict between Somali and Ethiopia
Have you read today's Hiiraan online where there is an article which clearly states that USA is not recognising Somaliland or Puntland as Sovereign States. What USA wants is quite clear; make no mistake by assuming that they'll recognise Somalialand as Independent State. Indeed Somaliland Government will do their dirty work and when the dust settles, USA will force Somaliland to remain part of Somalia. It will be unlikely for the Somalialnd Government to refuse such an order as they will accept bribery in the form of USAID.
On the other hand Somaliland has not benefited from its relationship with Ethiopia.
Dear Somalilanders
we must not fear to deal with any entity provided we know what their interests are ,we too have our interests.we should give nothing for free and should expect nothing for free.this is the principles of this world.
about the issue of common language ,religion and ancestors .what i know for fact the Somali speaking people DO NOT SHARE COMMON ANCESTORS.
ABOUT THE UNITY spare me the trouble it was tested and failed miserably.logically we must try a new route.
Somaliland government must not rush to deal with USA. There is a motive behind it. IAgain Somaliland cannot be treated equally with Puntland. We should not accept that. Puntland is part of former Italian Somalia, while our country was formerly independent before joining the union. We should tell Americans clearly our position that they are dealing with an Independent country. Our Foreign Affairs Minister must clearly explain to the Americans on the position of Somaliland sovereignity, and is not for sale for few millions US Dollars. We should have faith in Allah and not America or Europeans. We must learn from China for many years they were not recognised and yet developed their country. President of Somaliland must be careful with the Americans. They are there for their own interest and that is the oil of somaliland. They still believe the former regime signed with CONOCO an american oil firm to drill oil with about 20% of the income going to the former dictator and his henchmen. That is over, they need to negotiate on 50-50 basis.
Keep on dreaming As far the new US policy towards somaliland is concerned, this has been what this country strived for a long time. It might not be a full fetched recognition of its statehood but it is most certainly a giant positive leap as this the recognition and acknowledgement of the noble efforts and successes this nation has achieved. It is not new for syncs and conspiracy theorists to attempt to undermine or play down the huge importance of this gesture and they can keep on dreaming while Somaliland matches on to bigger successes.
you are absolutely wright, America has strong links with israel and other nations you might not approve so to hell with puntland and just play your cards wright
No doubt we need as much help, regardless the consequences.
Help okay, but we must deal with the consequences!
Cheers.
.The more support we get financially, the sooner we develop our economy and infrastructure. It doesn't matter where it is coming from. An old man said, the colour of the cat shouldn't matter as long as, it is catching the rats.
However, the fact that the world's, only, supper power has given Somaliland, it's full attention is worth great deal , that we should appre
