Hargeisa (Somalilandpress) – Unknown armed men attacked security check point between Aynabo and Oog in Eastern Somaliland in the midnight of last night. The armed men killed one of the guards and injured two others. They also kidnapped two Somaliland policemen.
Ibrahim Jama Mohamed, the Deputy Governor of Saraar region told the local press that the militia men attacked the check point around 2:00 A.m Wednesday night.
“Enemies attacked the check point between Aynabo and Oog in the midnight. They opened fire and killed one policeman. They also injured the driver of a police car in the same check point and kidnapped two other policemen. After the attack, they fled the scene and vanished into surrounding mountains.” The deputy governor said in press conference.
The Deputy Governor added that security forces in Somaliland are working hard to capture these gangs who are hiding in the mountains of Saraar region, near the borders with Puntland.
The Deputy Governor was asked whether they know the identity of assailants, the Deputy said that the men attacked them from Buuhoodle town. But he didn’t go into details about their identity or what group they fighting for.
The identity of armed men is known yet and group has come forward to claim responsibility of the attack. But there have number of armed clashes and terrorist acts in Buuhoodle town and it’s surrounding since emergence of SSC group as political and militant entity at the beginning of this summer. SSC is calling for independence of Sool and Snaag regions from Somaliland.
In addition, many analysts believe pirate groups from Puntland organized the attack. Somaliland has captured numbers of Somali pirates throughout the years. Many of these pirates were released to Puntland in exchange of Somaliland prisoners. However, many other pirates are sitting in Somaliland jails either waiting for trial or can’t be persecuted for lack of clear-cut evidences. Lack of evidence has been the main reason why not pirates cannot be persecuted in different countries including the United States. Usually pirates switch gears if confronted by patrolling agencies and pretend to be fishermen. It has become almost impossible to convict pirates unless they are caught while they hijacking ships. This has made the life of local fisherman even harder, because it is easy for security forces from Somaliland and other countries to mix between fishermen and suspected pirates. Local people and government officials suspects that attackers came from Las Qore town on the Northeastern shores of Somaliland. if this is confirmed, it will be the first time that pirate group have staged such daring attempt to kidnap government workers to potentially exchange them for fellow pirates or suspected pirated.
This incident comes as the two government of Somaliland and Puntland swapped prisoners. Somaliland government released pirate suspects from Puntland, who found not guilty of piracy activities in Somaliland courts. In return, Puntland released jailed Somaliland drivers who were illegally arrested in Puntland while delivering WFP (World Food Program) aid to refugees in Central and Southern Somalia from Barbra seaport. Puntland and Somaliland governments have increased their military and security cooperation and sign principle agreement to strengthen mutual cooperation.

may Allah give mercy the killed soldier,, we somalilanders are fully supportive to our troops and hopefully the new government will understanding where the problem is coming from and take necessary actions against terrorists in buuhoodle.
Before any security Agreement and/or co-operation is to take place
between Somaliland and Puntland clear border demarcations must be drawn and agreed upon by both entities. In this regard, its the Puntland Majarteenia infringing in certain parts of the Somaliland Soil Townships, this allowing tiny SSC anti-somaliland guerrilla fighters causing threats in their Somaliland townships.Once the border issue is clarified by both entities, I see no other big problem to stand in the way of the two Somali neighbours not to exchange brotherly co-operations in all fields.
Cheers.
What I am seeing here is a danger gathering from the Eastern part of Somaliland. Unless Somaliland government use forces once for all and destroy this thugs, they will continue to harm the innocent Somalilanders.
Please stop putting on white gloves with this murders. They think they can get away with this kind of murders, they should be hunted and killed.
These terrorists are getting bold and need to be eliminated because sometimes in life, when your security is shaken and your territorial integrity is violated, you need to stop being champions of peace and carry a big stick to deal with enemies. Somalilanders it is time to send a message.
is our government worried about citizens taken as hostages one in buuhoodle and seven others in puntalnd? is this the change people voted for?
i do not think people will not accept such kind of negligence any more.
This would never have happened under UDUB's watch.
I agree with you Udub……………..
Udub iyo hagardamadeedi one step forward two steps backward policies
haynoogu yeerdhin.
Cheers.
All the above comments are based on illustions which contradict the reality on the ground.
Somalialand is very fergile and many of its supporters will switch sides as soon as they feel there intrest is not met. Imagine I am from the Harti Familly which is on the side of Somaliland and war was waged on Buuhoodle the war draged for couple of days. I would switch sides just to protect my familly from the invaders.
Just remember Somaliland is Paying money to be in Laascanood to other Harti supporters but SSC or even Puntland don't have to pay money to convince there supporters of there actions.
You do not have an Iota of what Somaliland and it's people stand for. You think believing in Nationalism is your house light that you can switch off and on the way you want to? Somaliland is Nation, it will continue to exist and people like you will come to reality and accept the fact soon.
If Somaliland is a nation why has the world refused to recognise.
Walaal macaane I can feel the anger in your word but that won't give you recognition not from the world and not from the Harti .
The ssc people have got their own state now so sooner or later you are the one that will except the reality.
MR SOMALIA let these niggas emotions get the best of them , all u need 2 knw is we r wining we will secure our lands SSC LAND and we will wave the somali flag jst how kanaan did in the africa world cup ceromony . WE R NOT SOMALI DIID we knw wot islam brotherhood is
The Kulmiye government is letting us down. Riyaale's UDUB government was corrupt to the core, but at least this gross negligence of our national security rerely happened while they were in power. And national security is our first priority. Riyaale wielded both a carrot and a stick and did not just talk peace. There can't be peace when our troops are being killed on daily basis. It is time to march our troops to Sool and Sanaag and hunt down all the terrorists.
Udub days are over..faded away into the oblivion. So long & goodbye.
Cheers.
If you recognise yourself as a state than we have recognised ourself as well as a state.
SSC is a state within Somalia and if Somalia doesn't come back as a united again than we declare an independent nation as well.!!!!!!!!!!!
Where is UDUB??? If they were only still in Power this would have never happened.
National Security has become weak ever since the new government.
You are right my brother. UDUB would have not allowed this to happen.
Those of you who still shedding crocodile tears please grow up and get
over it…what Udub couldn't do in 17 years in power since 1993, can't be done
during the short period the Kulmiye took over the power!.I would urge that
the SL media and all good Somalilanders to engage encuraging the new
Regime with more constructive helpful ideas based on good moral ethics and so forth.
Cheers.
mohamed, let me make you sure the campaign is over, and kulmiye party won the election, for now on the reality and what they can do and cannot has become real, so let us address our real weakness and let our government correct it's mess.
Mohamed I think you are dreaming there is nothing the new regime can do but create more mess. Yes there was mess before but they are just going to make it worse. Already there are more problems and more divisions…I ask you was it like this before? Or this is something that came with the new regime.
All I can say is Allah be with us.
Suad, the new administration is hardly in power for couple of months. signs show that they are gradually doing better jobs than the past administration. No doubt about it.
Do not just generalize things. What is your point, be specific?
sister gobaad,, with great respect may you tell us the job creation programs our government accomplished so far?
do not you concern:-
1:- security weakness in our country
2:weaker relationship with our neighboring countries
3:the illegal release of sea pirates and the new hostages taken by puntland pirates.
4;. let me stop here the issues i personally concern for now
Yes, there is a concern in all 4 point you mentioned. But what I am saying Nasir is that it is too early to evaulate this Administration. Udub Party was in power for 17 years with little or no progress. Give Kulmiye a chance to do their work. Seef la boodnimada iyo khalkhal abuurku ma fiicna.
Kill dem all
