Every once in a while, we are disgusted to find that our local media is tending to slide back to gutter press, rather than going ISO scale.
Worse of all what propels this trend, if we call a spade by its rightful name, is the devilish drive of either monetary or tribalism.
Irresponsible press that does not verify or attribute its authenticity has sadly become part of our tradition. Whether it is in print (as in newspapers) or electronic (as in radio, cyber, TVs etc), we are day in day out going down the drain.
Given the latest spate of tribal innuendoes and inclinations pronounced on daily basis in the press, it seems that it is now spinning out of control.
The information minister have just released a statement decrying the trend of splashing news, sentiments or issues bordering the fact that the state’s executive arm have coerced its sister judicial limb on the outcome of the aid diversion crime case that have now convicted the culprits.
So too, have he denounced the Kulmiye cliché who opted to wash dirty linen in public rather than use better moral conduits to thrash out differences.
On the other hand, no sooner have the new finance chief settled down on his holsters have distracters cried foul.
Going by Dawan’s Editorial of yesterday 9th June 2012, the naming of Gurhan as the new Berbera customs boss has unruffled feathers.
If the outcry is not tribally based, wasn’t the same man in charge of the income tax of the whole area?
If it is not tribally based, doesn’t Samaale have the authority to post officials as he deems fit?
We know that practically and technically lack of sufficient funds to produce news renders the reports partial.
Thus if the reporters’ pay is meager or the house media is cash strapped, then alas, down the drain goes all the integrity.
Coming back to the Hamarji and company case, we know that there are better means of addressing the issue, whether it is through interest groups like the next of kin, human rights associations or good governance agency, they have their chances of lodging appeals and straightening the wrongs, if their were any at all.
To go to suspect press some of who have no accrediting papers and are completely unknown or are not even around hence by space to air abrasive claims whose effects are more than potentially explosive, is just a time bomb.
In the same breath, we would appeal to Hon. Boobe to use his wand and cleanse the media industry in the country hence put it in order.
We are off-course quite against the muzzling of the media and have always been against it. But at the same time would not shy away from telling off our colleagues.
People should put up real shops or quit.
Maligning people with ill-motivated intents would never endear nor auger well for our future in journalism or public relations.
We believe in uprightness such that our journalism should be based on patriotic self-esteem and developmental aspects as regards social, political, educational and environmental aspects.
When highlighting issues, we should ask ourselves whether we are pep-ossifiying or breaking our skeletal frames.
Are we building or breaking Somaliland? The press should know better, of course, whether they stand for tribal, monetary or integral features.

I am sorry most of them do not read what you are saying because of certain obstacle they have. It would have been better in Somaliland language. Furthermore, did you include your website who just migrated from neutral and heavyweight, to unfortunate trend of Qarannews, Halbeegnews and Waaheen way of taking Somaliland to drain?
Correct yourselves, before you talk about others. Just look the space you always give to Mr. Kayse, the traitor, and others including Wanlaweyn who developed to just to each and every article in your website. All you to do, is to allow once, twice, and for their time, stop anyone including me who trespasses the ethics.
History is repeating itself. This time the faqash entity in Pland is using planes to subdue the peaceful population of himan iyo heeb. the Hired war planes and their mercenaries are in the process of eradicating the city of Baargaal. The faqash swarms are using the same tactic they used in Hargeisa Somaliland.
what are you talking about is OUT DATED,i am from xibin xaab next time write correctly “xibin xaab not himan heeb” This shows us your informer caught red-handed.
correction xeeb.
I don’t understand 80% of my comments are being blocked . And they are not worse than kayse’s the snake head of the Faqash
LOL
I am not sure whats with your obsession guys. The topic is about media and its responsibility not about the forum/discussion board users.
It's called freedom of expression something unheard of in Garadag yet they cry crocodile tears about Siad Bare. Unlike Silaanyo at least Siad Bare said he was a dictator and he was a socialist, what does Odey Silaanyo stand for?
Well I have gift for my fans: http://i46.tinypic.com/jpaq02.jpg
The next series will be about Mr Ixtiraaf as he explores the minds of his "followers" and we all know who they are.
Kayse.
kkkkk obssesionist camp are getting out of control now making Threats stalking etc.
i don’t see what is The fuss all about someone writing his opinion not harming anyone, criticizing leadership whether is goverment or regional addministration it’s good & healthy as one philosopher”keep The politicains honest”.
Make no mistakes, all that you are doing will be used against you Mr.Traitor. Our intelligence organ are watching your steps, because you have repeatedly over stepped your boundaries. People like you should not be protected and they must face the weight of SPC & CPC and should charge under subvertion. All these clips of yours are already in the files of our protectors.
The reason I said this, is that what you doing is a crime and not criticism.
I', really started to suspect SLP. For the very reason my comments are completely blocked and the likes of Kayse and allemagan are allowed.
I agree with the writer in that there are serious problem in the way our media functions. But SLP is not an exception as noted by Omer H. D.
Why are you lot angry and complaining? If you keep your comments clean and mature, no one is going to delete you but when you use tribal names and other derogatory names the system deletes you. It doesn't take a genius to know that.
Siida iiga caabadaysiin ayan ka yabaay and this is not even an effort on my side. I am so much more capable than you can imagine. I do not hate duuqa Silaanyo nor his little Garadag gang, I am just pointing it out.
I can make my own website for your information and that would be more dangerous than SP comments.
Good article covering all Somaliland Media and giving good recommendations.
Hopefully, H.E. MR. Boobe should be able to take heed.
Cheers.
Kayse..A word of advice..You could say whatever..but I think you are missing the historical
significance of Garadag. Garadag if you don't know is an old city with a deep heros/warriors
of great fame. Even ask Gen. Siad Barre's graveyard or Ask Michael Marianno! or historians. Keep talking about Garadag and boy Am to scary for your thick dumb brain invain. All I can see's that
you are already in deep trouble.
Cheers.
Cheers i was born in ceergabo and never heard of the place until recantly… am heading to sanaag this year i have to see this so called Garadag
The bandit professor is seen in the UAE passing the hat for new donations to finance his seeking of a tiny possition in MOGADISHO.
Typo: Too scary I/O to…
Cheers.
Isnt it interesting that Somaliland supporters comments are deleted etc but somehow Kayse almagmag et al still can post?
I think there are some fa q ash supporters working for SLP.
The unholly alliance of F**ash, Pirates and the minions of the bandit Professore are really getting desprate. Their half truths and untruths are catching up with them. The snake head kayse who is the self appointed leader of the unholly alliance is craking. The baves of Somaliland are stead fast in their defence and committment .
Not only my comments were deleted. I couldn't post a single comment. I was forced to change my screen name (from inayuusuf to Lafayste). Very much strange!
I really made a conclusion out of this and guessed what SLP is all about. but will not say it now.
@ the moderator
I expect you to block my new screen anme too. But this may take time of courase. However, I would love your do it now. no need to wait for couble of weeks to disguise yourself.
lol that happened to me too. but I was able to post after few hours. don't try to post the same comment again for you will be block. Some how the website recognises key words to block. So Somaliland braves be smart and find ways to overcome that.
Somaliland media should be told, as Mr. Eggeh kindly does, that Somalilanders are weary of waking up to ill-concocted lies and so-called sensationalist items splashed on Hargeisa newspapers' front pages. Sometimes one wonders whether one is really in Hargeisa, reading Hargeisa-printed papers.
Somalilanders are not envious of the trouble-plagued Somalia and its endless fears and tribulations. Somaliland is much sympathetic to the hapless civilians that fall victim to the hostilities – but do not want to share them as Somaliland media is pushing them to.
Bravo, Eggeh
Well said Eggeh Somaliland media has become shameless and I would also highlight these rouge media correspondence are unfortunately discrediting and painting a twisted picture of the tremendous level unity and nation hood our people have achieved.
These rouge agents need to be stopped as they are damaging our society and poisoning the minds of our youth whom are easily influenced and unaware these rouge media agents are printing manipulative misguided and fabricated stories as news.
I would like to suggest the following:
1) A campaign to get Somali business to stop advertising on the websites, papers and TV channels of these rouge agents
2) Call all creditable Somaliland Media outlets to setup a “Media Standards Agency” which is government approved that all media professional and companies sign up to.
Good article brother, some food for thought there.
I would as like to say as a Diaspora community member we don’t care who was appointed where and what tribe s/she may belong to.
We would much rather read about the excellent progress our people are making in businesses, educational institutions, what are the NGO’s spending our money on and is it value for money, articles exploring property market, construction industry, agricultural developments and potential, Interviews with national hero’s, artists and progress reports of government development projects.
This would bring tears of enjoy and a sense of pride to us all.
