Somaliland: Halgatosiye Assumes His Rightful Place in the Cabinet

Former SSC commander Dr. Saleban Essa Ahmed (Halgatosiye) in a colourful ceremony today official assumed the mantle at the Ministry of Resettlement and Rural Development after being appointed to the Cabinet post two weeks ago by President Silanyo.

During the ceremony the director general at the Ministry of Resettlement Mr. Ali Biikolo elaborated on the important role the ministry plays in the development of the Nation in which he said, the Ministry of Resettlement is mainly focused on creating an enabling environment by facilitating, monitoring and providing regulatory guidelines for re–integration of resettled communities with the rest of the economy.

This includes sustainable livelihood opportunities for affected families and further improving the infrastructure facilities to meet needs for socio-economic recovery by those resettled in conflict affected areas, added the Mr. Biikolo.

The Outgoing Minister of Resettlement and who now heads the newly created Ministry of Industries said, during his one year tenure at the helm of the resettlement Ministry had implemented agricultural Development projects, Water Project e.g. boreholes in three regions, Re-live stocking nomad communities affected by drought and Resettlement of returning refugees

Dr. Saleban Essa Ahmed (Halgatosiye) expressed thanks to the president for appointing him as well as the people of Somaliland for the support afforded him ever since signing of the Buhodle peace accords almost two months ago.

Dr. Hagaltosie agreed to disarm his rebels and work with the government’s development agenda and pledged to do his utmost best to curb militancy and bringing peace and stability to the Buhodle region.

Dr. Hagaltosie , chose peace over war after he realized the importance of peace and the need of development in the eastern regions of Somaliland (SSC)just after sign the peace accord with the government of Somaliland he returned to Buhodle where he lectured the euphoric crowd about the peace with Somaliland.

The lecture was warmly welcomed, as it opened a window of hope to the people of Buhodle Town ,considering the imbalance that exists between the eastern and western regions of the country ,with more than 6000 students graduating from Universities in the western region of country each year .Its a high time other leaders from that region to follow suit and embrace peace so as to do whatever is necessary to achieve and enhance the betterment of their people in the eastern regions.

The people in the region welcomed the peace initiative particularly the people in Buhodle Town, who considered the agreement as political gain not only for Dr. Hagaltosie but also it would be a landmark achievement for President Silanyo.

Many critics were skeptical of the Buhodle Accord with many of them saying it wont last for a week, others making a comparison with the famous Camp David Peace Accord; one is left to wonder how long it would last for months,years or decades one may never know.
