Somaliland: Former President Dahir Riyale returns to Hargeisa

HARGEISA (SomalilandPress)—Former President Dahir Riyale Kahin has return to Somaliland this afternoon for the first time since the peaceful transfer of power to incumbent President Ahmed Siilanyo during last year’s well fought election in the country. Former President Dahir Riyale Kahin was welcomed at Egal International airport by UDUB officials lead by the current Head of the Party Ahmed Yusuf Yassin, members from the parliament and other officials. Speaking briefly to local press at the airport Mr. Riyale first thanked all those that welcomed him back to his homeland, he then went on to say that anyone that is appointed to public office should transfer power as I did. Mr. Riyale promised to hold a press conference in the next three days after he has been updated on the current situation in both the country and UDUB party.
The former president returns to his UDUB party that has been in some disarray since they lost last year’s President Election to the Kulmiye Party. UDUB party has not yet recovered from that defeat and has since seen internal disputes over the leadership of the party. On another note it was yesterday that President Ahmed Mohamud Siilanyo acknowledges that he will approve the formation of more political parties to country, however before that becomes a law both the House of Elders and the Parliament has to approve the motion.

Thats what i call democracy!
Welcome former President to home. UDUB has to put her home in order first. Those UDUB supporter who beat hate drum must refrain of what they are doing to get the attention of their leader. Former President is a citizen of Somaliland and he has constitutional rights, but those who made fuss out of nothing yesterday should be told not to repeat it. We are one nation, regardless of which party rules the country and the peace that our people have achieved must not be allowed to derail by individuals who has personal interest to create unwanted problems and blames of no truth.
There were 30 vehicles allowed to enter the Airport yesterday and many others, but people like Hussein Xoog and others blamed the security and Kulmiye for no tangible reason. We must avoid this kind of thing just someone will say at Chewing sessions that so and so have defended the Ex-President.
Thanks Boqoljire, you say it well all, i don't have to commented. Thanks once more and let us welcome our former President with no fuss.
Security is important and UDUB should see that this could easily have turned ugly so they should take care of how they conduct themselves. It is unnecessary to go inside the airport in you're droves and shows they don't know how to behave appropriately. Shame on them.
The only things Somaliland can thank president Riyaale and his government during their eight year term is the security and sovereignty of the country. As an ex-spy master himself he built efficient spy networks for Somaliland which most of the time succeeded in keeping Alshabaab and the other bad guys at bay. Also he expanded our military capacity and regained control of our Eastern borders. For these hugely important sovereignty and security matters, i give him full credit. However, on all the other aspects of life in Somaliland, Riyaale and his ministers failed miserably.
I think we should stop this nonsense of welcoming party officials or ex presidents to the small airport we've have in huge numbers and take it else where like Beerta Xoriyada.
what happened hargeisa airport yesterday was absolutely big shame to our somaliland,, the warm welcome hargeisanians made for their ex-president is diplomatically a clear message to the president that people are not happy his model of leadership and government team as well.
Day after day we now learning the real picture of the president if you remember back a month and two ago What happened Mansoon hotel? where are the criminals who did that barbaric violence? who let them go with your a court?
Mr. Riyaale is an ex-president and an ordinary Somaliland now like everybody else. He could be welcomed home by his top party officials and friends to a limit. Anybody creating more than that is trying to create a problem and they have to refrain from disturbing the stability of the country and asking for trouble and the government should deal with them promptly.

Dadka arrintan balballaadhiyaa, ma meel aan dab ka shidnayn bay rabaan inay dab ka shidaan? I just don't understand what is the fuss and unwarranted concern over this unimportant matter is all about.

If a party such as UDUB can have an ex president on their side. What does this mean for the new parties? Is this unfair advantage?
We can see the ex president card being used already by UDUB. Will this be the way it will be now? Whenever they are resisted will they be using this card as back up????
I wonder if Somaliland President's retain their titles? Is he still Mr. President?
Other than that, I don't understand what the fuss is all about. Unless he is going to be tried for his decisions in his time in office, let the man be!

Yeah, is like the soccer Captain. Once a Captain you will always be called a Captain.
However, unlike the soccer captain the catch in being Mr. President forever, is to resign
gracefully from politics.
But if an ex President still stick around in politics he will be known as a politician who
inspires to become a "President".
wellcome back home mr president. he will always retain the title “mr president” i think he is the implementer of all the peace project in somaliland. i doubt if silanyo will hand over united country like president rayaale did.
