Addis Ababa (SomalilandPress)Somaliland Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullahi Omar told The Reporter that the Ethiopian government had assured the somaliland government that it will work with it in order Somaliland gets recognition. “We are pleased with the Ethiopian government in promoting our interest. Ethiopia is working on economy, diplomacy and security issues that we expect will help us to achieve our final goal, which is full diplomatic recognition,” he said. “That has not been achieved so far but we are working on it. The Ethiopian government is in support of that and we are very critical to that.”
The new Somaliland President Ahmed Mohamud Ahmud and Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullahi Omar were here in Addis Ababa for a three-day official visit since last Wednesday. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and other high-level government officials welcomed the president upon his arrival at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
The Somaliland Foreign Minister appreciated the close relationship that his country has enjoyed with Ethiopia so far. He said that Ethiopia is a strategic country in achieving his country’s international recognition. He added the new Somaliland President Ahmed Mohamud Ahmud discussed issues of recognition and bilateral relations with Prime Minister Mele Zenawi.
The two parties are working closely on issues related to security, peace, trade and communications.

Good for both Somaliland Ethiopia long term frateral bilateral relations for obvious
special reasons binding them together.
Cheers.
Correction: fraternal.
I hope this becomes a reality, Somaliland people have been waiting for many years, for the world communities to recognize what they the Somaliland people have already decided that there will be no turning point towards Somaliweyn. If Ethiopia finally comes on board, thank you, better late than never. Which ever Country to be first to recognize Somaliland , it will remain forever in Somaliland history as a true friend of Somaliland people.
I have here a suggestion to the Government:
The government should put more attention to the development not the recognition. Somaliland people currently need quick development in the areas of education, health, and economy as well. As a result, the government should set a clear strategy in these critical areas. How can you look for a recogrnition when your community is suffering???
Instead of loosing millions of dollars on travelling and flight, focus on development and take the right path.
I disagree, recognition is more important because you cannot develop without recognition, it is a catch 22, the government is doing the right thing, I have full confidence in the guys who are leading the charge, Sillanyo, Mohamed Omar, Mohamed Rashid sheick Hassan , the best of Somaliland is leading the charge now.
Somaliland great country
The government waking really hard . as they did. what our country need is education. i hope somaliland work on that. i hope somaliland to be wonderful country.
iiiiiiiiii love you somaliland people.
somaliland is my own country. somaliland is peaceful country to live.
Ahmad Guray history is adorably top. There's much deeper causes to how it all went wrong.
Simply put in one major basket…the unforgivable no1 EVIL mischief doers are Darod and Hawiye
of the Somalia proper from day one of the Union 1st July 1960 uptill 1991 when the despotic Darood
clan Regime failed and collapsed to function and was ousted. Still the SNM-USC(Isaak-Hawiye)
liberators where sabotaged and hijacked by Hawiye underground manifesto group led by Ali Mahdi
who formed a new Govt. headed by Ali Mahdi as the new President. A high delegation led by
Saleban Gaal was sent by the Snm Chairman the Late C/rahman Tuur (AHN) to negotiate with
the manifesto group which failed to bring about good outcome. With the Hawiye USC liberator gains
jeopardised and the Isaak SNM not having who to negotiate with in Somalia..the end result became
obvious….Withdraw to the original position of the S/Land's independence date 26 June 1960.
Therefore it's clear that all along…how it went wrong…is entirely a darod hawiye sham thing.
The Isaak had ever never been the no1 mastermind of the horrible things that thrust the Somalis
from one bad stage to another uptill this day.
Cheers.
you forget the SSNM(southern Somali national movement) a Dir(southern and northern) movement, i agree Somalia was destroyed by Ethiopia(weapons) and Hawiye and Darood, Dir and Issaq had nothing to do with this senseless war
Yes indeed tks for reminding me.
Cheers.
who the hell gives a damn about Ethiopia(they are the number1 enemy) what we need to do is convince powerful nations and southern Somalis (population not the clan criminals who are refusing to let the Southerners peace) also there is huge DIR clans in the south-central and deep south who support somaliland independence,
Good news to see that the Ethiopian Govt will be pushing for Somaliland recognition. Hopefully this will be a sign for other African countries to follow and recognise Somaliland at the AU.
This idea that Ethiopia is an eternal enemy of Somalis should be put to rest that was the past we need to move forward. Ethiopia has its own problems. However Somaliland can benefit from economic engagement with country of 80 million people which is landlocked.
Good news indeed!
