LAS ANOD (Somalilandpress) — Somaliland election campaigns have continued in the country without an incident for the sixth day with the two oppositions taking to the eastern regions on Monday and Tuesday.

After the three parties each had their campaign days across the major cities, the second round of the three-way battle begun in the eastern regions of Sanag and Sool.

Huge crowds showed up for the main opposition party of Kulmiye on Monday in the main towns of Erigavo in Sanag and in Las Anod, the provincial capital of the disputed Sool region.

Thousands of supporters came out in Las Anod for Kulmiye party led by Mr Ahmed Mohammad Mohamoud (Silanyo) on Monday taking over the main streets. The crowd rallied throughout the city with no incident despite minority radical groups in the region vowing to disturb the Somaliland elections.

Fuad Adan Adde, Kulmiye Sool representative, told large crowd that Kulmiye was the party for Sool, a region that desperately needs hospitals and schools. He said the main hospital was the one the British had left in 1960 while school class rooms were over crowded with each class sitting more than 100 students.

Mr Bashe Mohammad Adde, Kulmiye Vice-Chairman of Sool, who also spoke there said the region was dissatisfied with the current ministers in the UDUB administration led by President Rayale.

He said most of the ministers from the region including the Minister for Postal Services was not fair for the people and they needed higher position such as the Minister of finance, Livestock or resources. He added if Kulmiye wins they will put an end to the current armed confrontations and seek peaceful resolutions.

Meanwhile, Mr Silanyo was based in the western-farming town of Gabiley, where he was warmly received by the locals.

On Tuesday, the city welcomed warmly the leader of Somaliland’s second opposition party, UCID, when his supporters and campaigners took it to the streets. Thousands welcomed Mr Faisal Ali Warabe.

Both UCID and Kulmiye got the lowest votes in Las Anod in the last Somaliland elections in 2003 each scoring only 11 per cent votes.

This year the opposition parties are expected to gain more votes than 2003 and challenge the ruling UDUB party in the three-way battle.

The country’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) has set the official election date on the 26 June 2010.

you guys are covering the opposition movement and their rallies very well. This website covers the news very well, however you must maintain some equalibrium in all parties involved in the election. At times some of the articles are very pro Kulmiye. This articles heading suggests that the content will discuss both opposition party Sool and Sanag, the Kulmiye party was discussed in details and on the last paragraph the other party was mentioned they visited the small farming district of Gabiley. Please dont dissapoint the people who come to this site on a daily basis.

“I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.” – We will just report.

      • Nasir says:

I couldnt have said it better, i tottaly agree with what your saying deeqa,
some somaliland websites are so obvious in their bais (hadhwanag) and that could be off puting hopefully somalilandpress will not take this root.

  2. Ina Hebel says:

Good turn out in LasAanod. When you add the people that showed up for Udub, Ucid and Kulmiye, who's left to support the SCC or whatever they're called…

People of LasAanod are our cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles why is there so much beef over there? Half my family are from L.a & we all love each other like crazy, Somaliland is ONE!

    • Garaad says:

I am from Lasanod and I have to admit more than half of my family is from Burco, and i love them 100% but we have disagreement. I can not see myself supporting Somaliland. Somalia is ONE!

  3. Hassan says:

I have no relatives in Sool as whole forget Las Canod, its great turn out for a town that has been bombarded with hate and propaganda messages however the people proved those terrorists living in EU and US cities wrong.

Another big blow for them because the reality is Somaliland lets the people of Sool be themselves while minority SSC is trying to win them by lies. Even Puntland is introducing new decree outlawing SSC.

  4. Farhiya says:

The new incoming Government of Somaliland should do something
for the the people of Las Anod, imagine, the only main hospital dates
back to 1960, no proper schools, etc..they need all the help they can get.
Yes, we all are related, somehow. Those people abroad should not hurt
their brothers and sisters back home but should instead develop their
region, in that way it can be at par with the other places in Somaliland.

    • Ayaan says:

Dear Farhiya, yes we are related, and I believe we could build our land as soon as Somaliland withdraws its army. I am sure it’s easy everyone to blame the other side, all we need is our GOD given right. Rights to chose, same rights Somaliland has fougt agains Siyad barre.

  5. Gobaad says:

I am happy how things are turned out. The parties are all at their best behaviour so far and we are loving it observing it from far and across the globe. So far so good. Go Somaliland go!

Good job, competing parties. That is what democratic election looks like!

  6. Somalilanerad says:

    Gobad,

Udub unfortunately is instigating Kulmiye and if it was not for the cool head of Kulmiye leadership mar hora meesha lagu kala tagi laha.

The latest incident took place in Borome day 2 of udub rally. Udub supporters after their rally went to the Kulmiye offices and vice-presidents house and stoned them. The police were called and the crowd was dispersed .

Also the regional election commissioners in Borome were fired by EC when they inappropriately mishandled the voter cards and gave some to the Udub/gov officials.

The truth of the matter is that Udub is trying to do everything possible to make this transition as difficult as possible, but the opposition parties need to remain patient and vigilant because a lot is on stack!

    • Gobaad says:

Soalilanderad, these incidents are minor. Udub Party is a desperate Party and they will do anything to win. I certainly, agree with you the Kulmiye Leader has shown an enormous patience and self-control. He was taunted, intimediated, provoked and even shot at some point.

We Somalilanders thank him for his wisdom, not challenging Riyaale or reacting to his out of line provocation. That is the qualities of a Leader.

  7. Hassan says:

UDUB has shown how they are mafia group and they continue intermediation to the opposition shows they will do any thing to control us which is dangerous. We need to get rid off them.

UDUB is the worst party as shown on the poll on Somalilandpress. No one likes you in and out side the country we will see how you cheat.

    • Abdulrahman Omar says:

My dear the problem is not Galool, Jiic, and maygag party the problem is that we are fully aware of Riyale's administration and mangement, they are familiar on one thing I dont have to mention, regarding the Kulmiye, and chairman M. Silanyo, I beleif all the problems and trible conflicts was created by Silanyo during his chairmanship term in the remoute areas. Now if he succeed on this current presidency I don't what will happen, my opinion I think that the shit will the sky. When it comes to UCID I am really very optimistic with this party for so many aspects such as : the chairman is a faithful man, fresh, new blood, gained good experience abroad, recognises the value of his country, and where belongs to. I believe that very type of man is elligable to elelcted for the current presidency. I believe as diaspora we are all ready to support him what ever that support might cheers.

  8. jama says:

Kulmiye sold Laascaanood Sool and Sanaag to pirateland and as pirate captain Faroole indicated recently when Kulmiye wins the upcoming election they have negotiated to pull the Somaliland troops out of Lascaanood believe me you will see it after the elections are over.

    • jama says:

jama 1 day ago. You seem to be using my name. Are you another Jama?
Pl;ease use another name to avoid confusion. Thank you.
By the tend to look Kulmiye hater.
