Somaliander delegation must express to the Ethiopian local officials in Jigjiga how sad they feel about the incident and losses occurred in both sides.

The event took place in Ethiopia's soil on native somalilanders by Somalis which has it's implications. They even have to go a bit further to the federal government of Ethiopia in Adis-ababa and ask them putting proper mechanism in place to reassure such barbaric killings won't happen again…

  2. Khalid says:

May Allah bring peace to this troubled part of the world, its sad when innocent people lose thier life for any reason, The police are very brutal and so its a good move that the delegation went to JigJiga, The Somalis in Ogaden or the 5th provoince or Somali Ethiopians are all brothers and sisters.

  3. Burcawii says:

The only way this conflict will end is if the officers in Gashamo and surrounding area are from the local people. Any other solution will be a temporary one. I don't see why officers from Jigjiga should police Gashamo.

I personally blame the etheopian government first for this because they know somalis and they should have done something to prevent such incident from occuring.

  4. Nabadoon says:

As it's not first time such accident occurred between Luyu police which mainly belongs to Ogaden tribe and Other Somali different tribes, particularly Isaq people. The continued conflict must end and steps that make possible to stop should be undertaken by concerned parties. The only feasible options available to prevent such accident in the future are:
    1. Isaq and other Somali people must be fully integrated into Ethiopian System which means , they should have their own police men and local government .
2.Luyu police or Ogaden must come into terms that , Other Somali people have same rights as theirs in Ethiopia and must not dictate ..

  5. mohamed cheers says:

The Somaliland Haud reserved annexed regions must have their autonomous Govts
just like k/5aad Govts. Reality must not be overlooked that Haud annexed Regions are
dual citizenship of both Somaliland and Ethiopia when by contrast k/5aad is not dual citizenship
of both countries. Therefore, the two friendly Govts must take the proper joint agreements to
create proper working Haud administrations seperated from the k/5aad administrations.
Indeed this matter needs real solutions to allow the Haud indigenous tribes to have their local
Govt free from the K/5aad Govt. cared for by both friendly Govts of Hargeisa and Addis Ababa.
This means creating a new province for the Haud annexed Regions in 1953 by the British
    HMG.
    Cheers.

  6. Omer Hussein Dualeh says:

In this 5th Province, is there people elected from the area that our Somaliland descendants come from? If not why? This area is the "Reserve Area" given to emperor Selassie in February, 1954 and the British Government asked our leaders in 1960 to negotiate the issue of this land returning to Somaliland.

If the Federal Government of Ethiopia cannot stop these so-called Police, then Somaliland has the right to defend its people. We are not making trouble there, but those who believe the complete cake is theirs, and theirs only, are the ones making this killings. Why they call this area OGADEEN? There are many other tribes that reside this Province. Again our people in that province must be included the policy making in that area. We are not there just because our animal grace their, but it's our territory in the first place.

    • mohamed cheers says:

Dumbshell please try to understand that the Somali 5th State province of Ethiopia and the Haud
reserved areas annexed to Ethiopia in 1953/1954 by the Colonial powers of HMG Great Britain. are two seperate and unrelated issues…The Haud indigenous Somaliland tribes are absolutely autonomous
and free from the 5th Province. That's the reason why they don't have any Govt. representations in the State's administrative bodies and that's the reason for the 5th Somali State of Ethiopia always causing
havoc troubles to the Haud Somaliland Citizenship populations and their indigenous Haud Regions.
For these problems to end, the best solution is for both Govts of Hargeisa and Addisababa to
come together to hammer out a lasting peace for creating another parallel State similar to the
5th State Somali Ethiopian Province. However, the Haud tribes should be allowed to represent
their faith to shape their future in any negotiations between Hargeisa and Addis ababa friendly Govts.
      Cheers.

      • Jambazi says:

The problem is, the current administration reversed the cordial friendly, security and trade agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia. And hence, Meles Zanawi is unleashing his wrath on to Somaliland people and their cousin in the kilik-5. The recent massacre of Somalilnd brethren, the virtual mediocre cyber cantons like khatumo-steeg and awdal whatever are Meles' machination to exert pressure to Somaliland administration to come back into Ethiopia's sphere of influence. However, the present administration are not street smart to play the geo-political game into Somaliland's advantage. What is the point of chasing a relationship with Egypt while forsaking a well established diplomatic relationship Ethiopia is beyond any logical explanation.

        • mohamed cheers says:

          @Jambazi

For sure, the Ethiopians need Somaliland more than Somaliland needs Ethiopia.
I don't know how far true is your comments, but in my view Somaliland has nothing to fear
by extending good bilateral relations with not only Egypt but in fact with all key Govts of
the World more so with AL/OIC as well. With that in mind, the already established good
bilateral relations could remain even more stronger than ever. Any weakening relationships
is not in the interests of both neighbourly countries who share common enemies detrimental
to the National Security of Addis ababa and Hargeisa Govt. Authorities. Somaliland policies
are not even handed limited only to Ethiopian interests. Somaliland is open civil societies
whose doors are open to all the World.
          Cheers.

          • Jambazi says:

why now, when Ethiopia start to destabilise Somaliland majority of the commentators here are crying about liyu, abdi ileye, onlf while the head of the serpent is zenawi. Abdi Ileye cannot a jiffy without permission from Zenawi.

And if you can honestly answer me, we had a well established diplomatic relationship with Ethiopia, what is the logic in destroying that cordial relationship, for what? what is the point? To please Egypt. What can we gain from having relationship with Egypt? As you might be aware, Egypt is slowly metamorphosing itself into an openly hated nation in Africa because of Egypt's Nile water politics. Egypt has no friend in the entire continent of Africa. Even Israel has more dependable friends in African than Egypt.

It could have been more plausible and profitable to pursue diplomatic relationship with Israel because the opportunity to gain is far more than pursuing Egyptian friendship. we will gain nothing from Egypt other than stigmatization.

For me, Mr Cheers, I beg to differ with you, I think our needs from Ethiopia far out numbers what Ethiopia wants from us. In your logic, what do you think we can offer Ethiopia which will make Ethiopia kowtow to us and make Ethiopia bow in reverence and obeisance to the mighty Somaliland, the answer is nothing. May be, the only negligible thing might interest Ethiopia is the port of Berbera, but Ethiopia is doing fine without the port of Berbera. And Ethiopia has more suitable future option ranging from Mogadisho, Bosaso, kismayo, Lamu and Mombasa. So the bottom line is, it is we who need Ethiopia more than they need us. In order for us to survive that jungle full of venomous snakes, it is highly imperative to build a strong relationship grounded in a fortified unbreakable concrete foundation. Otherwise, like mutating cancerous cells in tumour, we will end up cannibalizing on each other like somalia proper without knowing what is hitting us. Then we will start wondering xaalke saladu kaa xidme weyde.

          • mohamed cheers says:

            @jambazi

For me MR Jambazi, I beg to differ with you. The difference between us is that,
simply, you are talking of yesterdays when I am talking of todays. For Example
the Egypt of yesterdays is not the same Egypt of todays!. The same goes for the AL/OIC
worlds. The same goes for all the World at large. We are now faced with a new World
order taking its shape and toll. That said, I don't embrace Ethiopia as a super power.
In fact it has more problems than Somaliland. I have already given my opinion earlier
on and have no farther stamina to waste my energies on your clumsy comments.
            Cheers.

I hope a lasting peace is reached and something is done about this evil so called new police, they are dividing two brotherly clans (reer isaxaq and ogaden) who have peacefully lived together for many years.

  8. Abraham says:

This problem might not have happened in the first place if the president of the Somali province is elected directly by the people of the region and is accountable to the people. The guy in Jigjiga has become a mini dictator with his own military force doing whatever he wishes to the Somalis in that troubled region. This evil police force (if I can call it police at all) has destroyed the lives of so many Somali Ethiopians from all the clans living in that region and therefore must be disbanded by the federal government in Addis. Keeping this force will do nothing to enhance the national security of Ethiopia but instead will make more enemies for the federal government. Instead, the federal government should make a local police stations manned by the local people for each village and town.

  11. Allemagan says:

To understand how Abyssinia have colonized Somali territory in the first place, look no further than what is happening in Gashamo today. Naturally, nomadic Somalis are nothing but hapless savages who could never govern their affairs. The Ethiopian government will not invest any energy to control this region because it does not need to. Simply, giving free rein to the never-ending tribal squabbles of Somali tribes will do the trick.

Those of you who complain about why the central government of Ethiopia is not doing enough to stop the tribal clashes in the region must realize one simple fact; in the first place, Ethiopian colonization of the local Somalis started because of Somali intransigence and their competition on water wells. Every time some Somali clan lost few camels in a raid, they enlisted the help of Ethiopia. History in its most cruel form repeats itself to a nomad.

    • amal says:

You have a lot of good points here, I agree habashis don't care so long as ONLF is kept at bay. The tribal squabbles, competition for water and looting each-others' camels was very common but it was not really a big problem as it was pretty much common in our nomadic life styles and you see most of these people are relatives and have been mixing anyways. But the problem is when these common tribal squabbles are being exploited to one's own advantage giving one side a free rein to whip the other causing further division and hate amongst Somalis. What else can explain this free rein whilst they are aware of the Somali issues. I hope it gets sorted because it was not long ago when similar incident happened in other villages where the araps reside. Hope this time Somalis of that region reach a peaceful solution and co-operation. I thought being part of Ethiopia will force Somalis in the region to unite for their common purpose and demands from the federal government but I was wrong, typical ignorant nomads who are now given uniform to distract them and to attack their own people.

what goes around comes around loool k/5 belongs to us… when u stop interfernce of khaatumo state then we will leave Gaashaamo alone… anywayz am nt hater anything May Allah have mercy all those who lost their lives for nothing :(

plus Ethiopia doesnt care bunch of somalis killing each other..

  13. HMObsiye says:

I am surprised, that Ethiopian federal government is just watching when its own hand-picked authority in zone five, are terrorizing its own citizen? Did it forgot that, these citizens who are continued being harassed were the same communities who stood with them, when this so-called Liyew police, were all in Ogaden libration front? None of this so-called Liyew police, would have been here if not for the amnesty given to them by the Federal government of Ethiopia.

The Federal government of Ethiopia should wake up and differentiate between those who were true supporters and the pretenders before it is too late and stop these madness.

    • saalax ali says:

PUT IN YOUR BRAIN THE ETHIOPAINS THEIR AIM IS TO KILL SOMALIS AS MUCH AS…… POSSIBLE WHERE EVER THEY ARE,IT DOES NOT
MATTER WHATHER K5 OR GASHAMO OR FUND TRIPES MAN SO THEY CAN ATTACK EACH OTHER
SO YOU NEED TO GET TOGETHER & SORT OUT YOUR PROBLEM.

  14. Abdi says:

Reality is sometimes needed as the article has false information designed to portray certain people guilty. The trouble started when 10 police officers were killed by armed groups that crossed the border. What do you expect from a Securty force. As a result of this dumb action many innocent people were gunned down by the Securty forces. Those armed groups are responsible for the deaths of civilians in Gaashamo Secondly if these people are originally from Somaliland as the article states they should all go back to Somaliland. Thirdly don't start incidents and then scream when the heat gets too hot.

  15. Isaaq- says:

The police in Gashamo who are also called "new police" have set fire to homes, killed innocent people and they need to be stopped!! they have killed many relatives of mine, and now a civil war can arise anytime as somalilanders who live in the area are taking arms to fight back. They also need to RELEASE PRISONERS IN JAIL , WOMEN AND MEN ARE JAILED FOR NOTHING AT ALL, THEY ARE RECKLESS, HEARTLESS PEOPLE.
