Dahabshiil lays down the foundation for $47,000 conference hall in Amoud University, Borama
BORAMA — Dahabshiil Group on Friday pledged funds to combat the food crisis in drought-affected western parts of the country where hundreds of thousands of people are at the risk of starvation.
Abdirahman Ali Abdi, Dahabshiil General Manager (remittance and exchange department), visited the towns of Borama and Tog-Wajale in the regions of Awdal and Gabiley respectively, and assured locals their support.
In Borama he announced three separate donations worth more than $58,000 to help the drought-stricken communities in Awdal and Salal.
He said the donation includes $10,000 to kick-start a drought relief campaign for the severely drought-affected population at risk of food insecurity in the regions. While he allocated over $47,000 for a conference hall that can accommodate thousands of students for Amoud University (AU). He laid the foundations for the hall which was one of the requests made by professor Saleban Ahmed Guled, the president of AU.
Furthermore he promised $1,000 for Borama Regional Hospital’s feeding programme. The director-general of the hospital Dr. Ismail Haji Mohamud accepted the cheque on behave of the institution and thanked them for their generous donation.
The Dahabshiil delegation visited various Dahabshiil branches in Borama and the regional SomTel, a subsidiary telecommunication company, headquarters.
While visiting the border town of Tog-Wajale, Mr. Abdi donated a cheque worth $30,000 for a $100, 000 road project currently under construction. Once completed the road will connect the township of Gabiley and the busy Tog-Wajale near the Ethiopian border.
During his visit to the region Mr. Abdi was accompanied by Mr. Hassan Mohamed Jama, the head of Dahabshiil’s Communications and Public Affairs Division.
The two were welcomed to the region by various community and regional leaders including the Wajale district governor Mr. Hashi Abdi Mohamud and his deputy Mr. Abdillahi Nur Ismail.
Community in the region applaud Dahabshiil for their generosity saying the initiative will provide a vital boost. They urged the international community to assist them and not to wait for another Recep Tayyip Erdogan to highlight their sufferings.

Is This only company The whole s/land region? no wonder The whole place so dark. it should be also other companies which calls The shots This is ANTI-COMPETITIVE PRACTICES.
it is the only company that donates.
$47k would have been better spent on the droughts to buy or drill new wells but no; Dahabo wants to compete with Telesom. They heard this week Telesom completed a conference hall in University of Hargeisa so they doing the same.
The Uni will not have that number of students if their families are displaced by drought in the region. Parents have no choice but to add their student fees to water and food bills.
They could have funded the hall once the drought was tackled.
Donating money for draught relief is simply a temporary relief measure, what is needed is a long term plan, preferably by the government to instigate well drilling in draught effected areas, this requires creating a special fund were the government uses the money raised to purchase drilling rigs and so on.
I have to say i agree with earlier comments in that it looks like Dahabshiil is hemorrhaging money right now in trying to keep up with Telsom, who are by far the no. 1 retail telecommunication company in somaliland.
have you see what some of the reer awdal tugs did to dahabshiil is office in borame on wagacusubmedia.com it was shoken walahi dahabshiil is always the first to help so why would they do that

Somaliland's political stability made Dahabshiil and his family successfull. Now they're showing a goodwill gesture and appreciation to Somalilanders.
Somaliland needs more like dahabshiil and his family.. well done.
Osman Qaal
Well done Dahabshiil but next time you fund one of your Quran xifdi competitions also hold competitions for invention, innovation, sciences, maths and arts and technology. Stop sucking up to the Salafi/wahabbi takeover of our country.
Quran xifdi keliya laguma noolaan karo.
Yufle!
You are Kafir in disguise . Dont hide behind Wahab bashing. There is nothing about "Qura'n xifdi.". Somaliland is Muslim nation and Qur'an is our blood and bone. We are proud of Dahabshiil helping young students to learn Islam. Why you people send money and help kids instead of bashing Dahab shiil.? Why dont built IT Schools and science academies? At least, why dont achieve some thing academically and became Doctors and lawyers in UK and America instead of mere Translators and Taxi drivers. You are legion of failures and Welfare Kings with big mouths. You have never helped and you are not helping, nor you will ever help. 70% of Somaliland communities centers in diaspora are crumbling for financial problems. MN , Seattle, Ohio, Torronto, Ottawa, London, there is one single Somaliland community that is not on the verge of destruction. Who are you to criticise when you cant help your self ?
Dahabshiil worked hard and made money. He is real capitalist not a welfare king.. Work people , work like men. Somaliland or no Somaliland he would have made money. I support Dahabshiil's plan to expand and take over every where. It is the duty of the economically fit to drive the unfit out bussiness and into economic extinction. Kudos for Dahabshiil! I take my hat off for you sir.
