We must take the politics and community ties out of our universities. The universities of Somaliland are there to serve all Somalilanders, east to west, north to south, and all the prospective students in the region. Those of us old enough to remember the days of every higher learning institutions based in Mogadishu, recall the strife students went through in order to find a place.
The universities of Somaliland are places of learning, research and national development. Politics and community affiliations should have no place there.
That's right Saleeban – we must endeavor to make our universities a beacon for africa and develop a repuatation as one of the best universities in the world. We may be far off now and it may seem laughable but we must aim high and reach for the moon, if we dont reach the moon at least we ll hit the stars
Mogadishu University is ranked #35 best university in Africa. Aim high but remember those skinnies down south are sitting on the stars boy! haha. Holla @ the ocean stars
Somaliland universities became like coffee shops where Somalis discuss tribal and political affairs. I have no expectation of Hargeisa high school that some call University because more than half of the year it is closed because habroos are busy fighting over the former high school.
I just feel sorry for the kids who have no alternatives who go there and spend their good money on nothing.
After four years they been fighting, closing and reopening this former high school they finally announced a president for the bankrupt institution.
I will try to be optimistic about it and will congratulate Dr Gaas but my expectations are not high. Good luck running the house of drama in Sheikh Madar…I believe it was in Sheikh Madar, just past that bridge they completed few years ago when you go past Imperial Hotel.
wow bitter and jealous at ramadan. how low can you get? instead of crying about successful people how about try to lower your aims and expectations so you are not disappointed
Khalid, thank you for supporting my argument. All things take time, and as Somaliland develops, I am certain its higher learning arena will also develop. The cup is always half full, never half empty. The good thing about Somaliland is that we have a wealth of educated people whom we can draw upon.
I am myself know of several people who took the time to volunteer and teach at Somaliland's universities, taking a sabbatical from their careers overseas.
Also there are a lot of upcoming, young educated Somalilanders who will no doubt take the lead in furthering Somaliland's education.
So onwards and upwards.
The snake head who all the time bites the hand that feeds him and his alleged kids in Somaliland is at it again. But people , Allah don't like ugly. Somaliland wouldn't fall because Xassids say ugly and untrue things about it . I know DR. GAAS. He is a pro who will deliver HU to where it supposed to be .
He held and worked at many education related positions. And from what I gather he spent years in gov financial management . He is a no nonsense career oriented pro. I think they got the right man for the right job.
Yes, i think Dr. Gaas is the right man for the position. He has covered all areas and is well educated with experience in accounting, management, he was also a public school superintendent for a district for sometime as well as a business administrator. As you can find in many newspapers here in the US he is known for turning around failing schools as well as public school debt crisis. With a PHD in Education, MBA and bachelors in Accounting as well as a CPA, i don't think UOH can go wrong. ALL HE NEEDS IS SUPPORT. This is UoH's last chance. May Allah make it easy for him. I believe he is the only one in UoH's history to have the proper qualifications to be a Chancellor. Inshallah khayr.
No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.statement of purpose writing
