BORAMA — Poor rains in the two Somaliland regions of Awdal and Salal has led to shortages in food, prompting local elders and community leaders to appeal for aid.

They stressed that the Lughaya and east Gargara districts are in need of an emergency appeal due to severe drought.

Sultan Ibrahim Jama Samar made the passionate appeal in a meeting they held yesterday underpinning the fact that for the last three years no drop of rain fell in this part of the country.

They invited and called upon government officials and local members of parliament from both regions to attend a proposed meeting to addressing issues on the 14th of June this month at Borama. They underscored in unison the graveness of the matter hence gave a vivid picture of the dire needs of the residents.

  1. Kid Carlito says:

As fellow Somalis and especially as fellow Somalilanders it is imperative that we assist our citizens in Awdal region and Saylac, the government Can not let innocent people suffer the harms of drought. We were able to raise around a million last year for the drought in Somalia therefore it is crucial we raise just as much or more even for our own citizens

  2. Ibrahim J. Ismail says:

Somaliland will never reunite with Southern Somalia. I trust that Somaliland will never entertain to become a second class citizen again under federalism. Somaliland was fighting to get back its independence from 1960- 1991 for 31 years. In 1991 Somaliland removed the bondage that was put on in 1960 and will never go back to that rotten Somali Wayne(Somali Republic). No matter who wants to mediate between Somaliland and Somalia, Somaliland people will not accept to rekindle neglect and abuse again.

    • Xarago says:

@ Ibrahiim if you don't want South then you will be isolated until you come to the table and negotiate. Somalia unity and sovereignty is not negotiable Somalia republic is one country and will be like that for ever inshaallah.

  3. M. Ahmed says:

Is there something wrong here, this draught was going on for quite long time now, and the government is doing nothing about it. What kind of country lets it's people suffer, in front of their eyes?
I think both us civilians and government should raise as much relief aid as possible to avoid people dying, because by now livestock is gonne just the people left.

Relocate all the Normads in those areas to urban areas particularly saylac and hargeisa areas.

Insha allah Allah rain will come when the time is right.

  4. khaatumo citizen says:

  5. Ahmed says:

Why awdalites are building transregional roads, and renovating schools while their kinmen are starving to death.Which one is more important saving peope and building private schools ?

    • Somalilander says:

Education is key to ending all starvation and problems of Somaliland and that building schools should never stop…Stop criticizing and help be a part of the solution those schools are also a solution you should also add to the solution by raising funds for the poor people affected. Ramadan is also around the corner start giving your charity where its needed your home country. May Allah reward you all for your good deeds.

  6. Abraham says:

Recently it rained a lot in the rest of the country and the gu rains are not over. So it will be a few moe months before the next cycle of rains start with the on set of dayr. As this region did not receive rain in the gu season, it will be difficult for them to get by unless water is transported to them from the other regions. May Almighty Allah help them.

  7. Burcawii says:

The Sland government should raise some money to help our fellow Slanders in Awdal and Salal.

  8. ComeAgain says:

The government will take care of it. We should also do our part in giving something extra where we can. This aint about Somalia its about Somaliland so xarkawareg please take your comments elsewhere

  9. Cimraan says:

I think as Muslims it is time pray for rain. The whole country should pray for rain and Allah will provide.

  10. Almis says:

Now we understand that S/L government will never bring one shilling to Goubanland (lughaya and Saylac). We waited for 20 years to see if they can correct their mistakes. We know now how selfish they are. They even helped their people (Isaaq who live in these regions) and took them to a safer place where they can provide food for just them alone and leave the rest of the other ethnic people to starvation. They even transported dying camels by using ONG cars.
One must knows that we always keep eyes also on our people and we are coming for them now and for our land as well.
