Somaliland Attends UN Security Council Meeting in Nairobi

NAIROBI (SomalilandPress) – Somaliland delegation today met with United Nations Security Council in regards to security situation concerns in Somalia. The delegation from the United Nations is led by the French ambassador in the Security Council Gerard Araud and US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Susan Rice. Somaliland delegation is lead by foreign minister Mohamed Abullahi Omar and consists of defence minister Ahmed Haji Adami, water and minerals minster Hussein Duale, labour minister Ilhan Mohamed Jama and the chairman of the lower house of parliament.
Also at the meeting were said to be representatives from Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of Sheikh Sharif, Puntland and Galmudug regions presidents. Representing the Transitional Federal at the meeting were said to be Sheikh Sharif and his Prime Minister Mohamed Abdillahi, speaker of the parliament Sharif Hassan. Both presents of Puntland and Galmudug regions were also present at the meeting that took place at a Gigiri Nairobi hotel.
According to source that has seen the meeting agenda has confirmed to SomalilandPress that it is Kenya’s concern of Somalia’s security situation that has recommend this meeting to take place with the help of UN Security Council in Nairobi. Kenya’s concern is that TFG’s president’s term is set to expire in few months and the current conflict between the president Sheikh Sharif and Speaker of parliament Sharif Hassan is not helping either. However political experts are a bit surprise that Somaliland government has agreed to part takes this meeting in Nairobi.

For the Somaliland this UN Security Council Meeting which's a follow up of the FCO London meeting
is in my view positive to persue the real goal solutions for recognizing Somaliland Independence from Somalia. There's also the 73 delegation to Djibouti headed by DR. Gaboose and the Dai TSI programs etc. The Game players know that Somaliland is different than Galmudug Puntland and TFG Somalia. The problems of Galmudug Puntland and the TFG Somalia are deeply fractured and need real fixes of some kind real big solutions. The best solution's to conduct new fresh elections for the TFG before the expiry date of August 2011. The new top leadership could come about from Galmudug Puntland and the current TFG/TFP of Somalia though my choice of heart really supports the TFP Chief SH. Sharif Hassan SH. Adan representing R/W-J/W and all the oppressed minorities including the main Somaliland SSNM-Dir Clans. If this plan works SH. SHarif Hassan should cancell the PM and replace it by Vice Presidency and set up a new system from bottom up emulating Somaliland who will definitely respect and help the for the first time in Somalia a R/W-J/W type new leadership power shift.

I believe Somaliland is so important for the peace searching effort in southern somalia,, and UN representative in somaliland and somaliland reassured that today.
This meeting was first of it's kind that somaliland had with the United Nations ,,, but not with the somali warlords.
No doubt there are a lot of propagandas somaliland's enemies are spreading let us all a ware of that.
Brothda Somalia right now is overburdened and laden within own diffcult crisis and talking about
relatively peaceful and stable Somaliland to add to such crisis is out of the question and logically unrealistic.
The only hope for Somalia is to replace the TFG by new elections before August 2011.

This is a step in the right direction by Somaliland for attending the meeting to solve Somalia's problems, This does not make Somaliand to be part of Somalia and instead it only shows that it has role to play since the insecurity in the South will spread to the North, it also helps Somaliland to meet with the international community and make its case why it needs to be independent country, bc right now there is only one country called Somalia and the international community does not consider Somaliland another country. It may be a good thing for Somaliland to show the world its not only seeking to split from Somalia' but its willing to find solution for the problems of its neighbor.
Puntland and Ahlusunah and Somaliland and Azania all of these are states with clans that claim to be independent and to have elected a president of one of their own tribe. Lets face the reality that the international community will not recognize any of these tribes to become a country within a country. If Somaliland's ministers attended the meeting to solve Somalia's problem then that shows they too are part of Somalia.

dont jump on conclution, i think somaliland needs 2 do this in order of the recognition process, there is law and ways 2 fellow in the real world of a law and order, and somaliland is a on the right bath on my view, besides i see this as a UN wants 2 legetimised the exsisten of somaliland , i mean on the record. believe it or not, this is the begining of the UN process 4 recognition. cheers… one more note. somalilander should be proud of the status they recieved from the world body.

There is nothing wrong with taking part in a UN meeting as long as we carry our message across and hijack the motives of the meetings (crush it if we have to). That way they will stop inviting us themselves.
Hopefully the Foreign Minister made secret deals with the UN, which includes taking parts in meetings in return getting more favors and say in the international stage.

Don't be fools Somalilanders. your leaders are democratically elected and are accountable to their own people. People of Somaliland must differentiate between Qarannews, Diridhabe, Waaheen and those responsible Websites that we cherish their patriotism. Why we listen people like Mangistu and alike, while our government is responsible for our country. We have voted for change and that change has come. Somaliland will stay forever and no one can change that. I do not see why certain politicians are less than the average person in street, and create unwanted paranoia of everything our government does. Do they want us site where President Riyaale left us? Vegetable and no progress? What exactly they want. Our people trust this government and it will change Somaliland to better in the near future. Even though we don't share same chairs with TFG, I believe we should go after them in every hole they go, and tell the International Community we are here and our eandeavor is right and Somaliland needs your help in achieving this.
Warya faras cade, hold your horses…Somaliland has nothing to fear whether the TFG/Tuugland officials were in the meeting or not. We can not continue to Isolate ourselves while letting pirate and terror entities make relationships with International community. We need to be involved and make contact with these people and agree to disagree if their proposals are counter productive.

Well, no one is talking about isolation. The FM should have been making contacts directly with the countries that matter without going through this useless UN meetings, and certainly lowering our status to the likes of Puntland and Galmudug won't make things better.
BTW this meeting was specifically for the opposing somali factions ( TFG, Puntland, Galmudug) it has nothing to do with anything related to somaliland what so ever, yet our genius president sent a fleet of cabinet minsters to attend it. Wasting taxpayer money for nothing.

Why is president Silaanyo allowing our ministers to waste their precious time and our meagre tax money to attend a useless meeting aimed at solving the perpetual problems of the corrupt and vicious warlords in the South? If the president needed our government to be part of that meeting, he should have sent a couple of educated and wise Sultans from our House of Elders to represent us and give them some brotherly advice whilst leaving our ministers to deal with the serious issues we are facing in Somaliland.
What is wrong with you this is a meeting with the United Nation security council the highest Institution in the world..U don't say no to a meeting like that…and Somaliland held a sepparat meeting with them.

First of al this is a high ranked UN meeting, whish includes of veto power countries such us France and USA, and most importantly being present at the meeting doesn't mean that reprensentatives of Somaliland government have met face to face with other representatives from Somalia, like the foreign minister stated efore he left for Nairoby, Somaliland has received a direct invitation from some of the most powerful countries of the world to come to Nairoby and meet with the Security Council representatives.
To make a long story short, Puntland, Galgudug and tkg met the UN seperately from Somaliland, i don't know why anyone will think that we had war and so many of our people were killed and then we would meet with those people who don't even recognise Somaliland achievements and autonomy.

People how hard is it to understand that the Somaliland delegation met with the security council separately. This was an amazing opportunity that presented itself and Somaliland could not let it go to wast. They met with the SC and talked to them about Somaliland and our desire to secede, it's as simple as that..Now if our opposition parties and opposition-newspapers want to twist the news and listen to our enemies so be it…
The somaliland foreign is going in the wrong direction and is vastly becoming a laughing stock. Just last week he was quoted in an arab paper in he which he mentioned somaliand in a federal somalia. Now he is going to this meeting. there has to be sort of reshuffle, clearly this guy is not fit for this ministerial position. Somaliland needs to change in its course in foreign policy.

Minister Mohamed Abullahi Omar is clearly creating the wrong headlines. In his short ministerial career he exposed the Somaliland foreign policy has been shambolic. I was actually defending him up until last week, when he gave that interview to the EAU paper. The question is, is this the Siiraalyo policy to UNITE Somalia. The was question marks about the Kulmiye parts and I hope this is not what their intentions are. Because if that is the case, then we will be returning to defend our sovereignty.

Shabaab is obstacle to peace and it allowed the conflict to continue and therefore distracting the president from doing what we elected him to do which is unite all Somalis and work with the States to make the federal system work. We should take a note that the top Shabaab leaders are from Somaliland and therefore Somaliland has a role to play to convince this leaders to abandon terrorism and leave the South. Once Shabab is defeated and stability returns to Somalia the rest of the break away regions Puntland and Somaliland will have to come to the table to negotiate power sharing. This is where we are headed like it or not

Who is Somali diid? Somali American…… Somalilanders are the founders of the first Somali government, they are ethnically Somalis, speak somali but only want to withdraw from the failed union. Why all Arab don't create one country … they speak one language after all. Its impossible. Same reasons apply to Somaliland/Somalia.

This western security council considers us part of Zoomania, so its within their right to negotiate what is ours. Security council are the same people who administer the donations issued to bolster security issues such as pirates and terrorists, so our poor SL also needs some money.
The walaweyn will hate SL even more if they see us taking money they thought it belonged to them, that is why you might get more angry trolls in here.
Why would you even try to insinuate that Somalia welcomes any Somalia's whether from North or not. Everyone clearly has come to terms that the "TFG" is uninterested in its people interest let alone even consider the North people as welcome.
Please wake up from your long sleep NO "TFG" will have control on any part of the country. Yes It most definately will not have a remote minute chance in the North EVER. I know 'Rejection hurts' but the North would rather you continue being "distracted" and remain unrecognised.

Kenya and the EU have given Somali TFG clear message to reconcile its bickering within it and hold elections as planned or they will face a situation were a case can be upheld for the granting recognition of the three/four regional governments. Somaliland_Puntland_Galgamudg_Azania. If this causes a war then all EU, UN lead funding to TFG will be withdrawn and no government declared but back to just war lords again. This is where essentially it could lead to forceful intervention by other nations.
With regards to Awdale state who may have some within it who are claiming they are acting for the majority as not highlighted by the recent elections. It is possible for Somaliland to show those people may always change with who ever is elected example is Awdale state was heard of as soon as the elections was lost by the president who had same tribe as them. So it remains as per elections which showed support for Somaliland President. This what democracy is. If Somalia TFG donot hold elections then GAME OVER.
Faras cade and like minded brother and sisters please get real, Somaliland passed the stage of – on the defensive mood, and has entered an arena that is on the offensive, I really understand your concern and your articulation is superb but frankly speaking, it is outdated. If I were encountered your writing as recently as May 26 2010, I would have raised all my alarm bells, but I have nothing to worry about, my government and my people are solid and confident and not threat to anybody, just mind their business.
And Somaliland has shifted from bunker politics into the high ground ambitious politics which is the by product of our achievement, and it is not accident to hear that our young and bold foreign minister sitting with SC and people like Susan Rice who is well versed about Somaliland affairs inside out and intelligent.

There is a scramble for resources that affect all Oil rich regions. The division of Somalia is envitable but this does not mean we should allow our resources to be bought out by privatisation and selling to highest bidder. All these countries must enter into an agreement much like the GCC and control the output otherwise they may find over production and prices hicking similar to what is happening to day. Division is not a problem if understanding is reached between these regions and bear in mind leassons learnt by West Africa, GCC etc.

Though the situation of Somali land and its history with Somalia is known by the main powers of the Security Council, it is still important for Somali land to defend its position as a sovereign state in any international meeting in which our relation with Somalia is discussed. We should also knock the doors of the UN and AU to prove that as far as international law and legality are concerned, we are a separate entity. This is not an easy job. It needs hard work and perseverance. Punt land, Gulmudug, TFG, and Sunna Wal Jamaa are Somalia. They are not Somali land and they have their own problems. I admonish the government of Somali land to employ a group of international lawyers who can advocate our cause in the UN.
We don't care who else the UN security council is meeting as long us our representitves present our position right. We have to feel responsible and push our cause anywhere in the world. I beleive we should allow our leaders to perform their jobs. They should forget who will say what and get on with the job.
The forgein Minister should also be aware of what he says in interviews, he shouldn't confuse the common man in the street but use a simple language of what Somaliland is all about Independent counrty fighting for recognitio….
I'm sure the Somaliland administration is acting in the interests of its people and in doing so will achieve their goals in many arenas. I see that some people have very vivid imaginations and have let it get the better of them, I mean to insinuate that Somaliland is considering re-uniting with Somalia, there's a greater chance of Somaliland forming a unity with Ecuador.

boo hoo. These same so called Somalideed or Somalilanders have also attacked Somaliland. They do not distinguish between North and South. There goes your argument! If these individuals were sent by the Somaliland administration to destabilize the TFG and South then your argument would carry some weight. However, as things stand now, the problems in the south have nothing to do with Somaliland. If anything the blame for the current situation should be shared between all the old Italian Somaliland regions – Puntland straight down to the Kenyan border.
The TFG members are fighting over competing interests based on clan rivalries- the Marehan want to bring back the "good old" said barre days and the Marjeertan want to reestablish themselves as the dominant group based on pre-1969 politics (dominant group before Said barre regime). Pls go read! None of these neighbouring tribes get along and none want to share power with the other. Honestly, even if Somaliland were to disappear off the world map all together tomorrow, the fighting in the south would still rage on for years.
Put simply, the unrest in the south is based on greed,loss of emaan, and the lack of political honesty on the part of the clan elders. So fear Allah(swt) before trying to blame the south's immaturity on Somaliland. This is sincere advice. As time passes, both you and the entire world will see the major differences in the political make of Somalia – who are the builders and who are the destroyers, who are the peacemakers and who are the warmongers, who are TRUE somalis through ACTION and who are they ones SHAMING their people and themselves.
Sufficient is Allah(Swt) as a judge between us and you!

First all everyone knows for certain that the Somaliland delegation met with the UNSC separately and in my opinion the decision taken by the Somaliland government to attend the conference was right, accurate and applaudable. This surely was a golden opportunity not to be missed and I personally commend the president and the foreign minister for taking this courageous, wise and very important decision.
The Somaliland delegation was there to present their case and demand their rightful recognition.
