As a Somalilander, who love the peace and security that our people enjoy. We know that President Ahmed Mohamoud Silanyo is trying his best to improve the way the government works. But, he is surrounded by ministers that some of them do not understand their jobs in government that are fighting among themselves. Therefore, his ministerial selection was not based on merit and the current Ministers did not have experience of government. Your government ministers Mr. President need training of their roles in government.
Somaliland was and still is a beacon of peace in former Somalia. Recently, there are problems coming from the east of Somaliland. The so-called Khaatumo Estate, which is campaigning to form their own self rule and join forces with Puntland and Somalia. Your government fought with forces supporting Khaatumo Estate last year, there is also another group, who announced the so-called Awdal Estate with the ambition to form an independent government in Awdal and Selel in the west of Somaliland.
These two groups are both demanding building a fairer government, which represents the whole of Somaliland. This problem is not new but it is one you inherited from the former administrations such as the one of Igal and Rayale.
Therefore, you are faced with two sets of problems, which weaken the existence of Somaliland. It is time that you listen and start reforming before it is too late. Now the fire is small but if it gets too big, it will be difficult to put out.
The other scenario, which could give these two so-called estates the support that they crave for and make worse for the case of Somaliland’s recognition will be a successful Somali government.
If Strong, successful Somali Government is born in Mogadishu, these two so-called estates will ask to join forces with Somalia. Imagine this scenario Mr. President. This scenario will be immense task to handle.
There is also the theory that these two groups will get support from the youth groups in Awdal and Selel in the West and Sool and Sanaag in the East.
The longer these groups carry on their struggle the more support they can get.
To conclude my intellectual analysis, the noise coming from these so-called Awdal and Khaatumo Estates can damage the reputation of Somaliland. Their ambition will be heard in the media much more, when the next Somali Peace Conference starts after August. As the current Somali Goverment’s mandate expires. These two group will start Somalia’s conference of building new government.
By consulting with the Somaliland Intellectuals and Elders, Mr. President you can reform and come up a solution to the long standing problem. Points to digest are the sharing fairly among the regions of the most powerful ministers such as ministries of Finance, Defence, Home Office, the Leader of the Parliament and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. By reforming these posts you can put out the fire and delay the results of the unhappiness that causing problems in the west and east of the country.

Rubbish propoganda. Mostly by out of touch diaspora who have no rule on the ground.
The ambition of Awdal and Khatumo states is already heard by the international community and it is a reality in the ground. Ask Xaabsade why he was told that he could not represent Khatumo people in the Somaliland delegation as these people had already their seat in the Istanbul gathering. Wake up and smell the coffee; these two groups and many other Somalilanders are already part and parcel of the future government of Somalia whether separatists like it or not.
@Allemagan.
your righ, international community already know khatumo & awdal where They stand which is to remain within somalia.also s/land region it’s part & parcel of somalia nose is tightening.
the writer of the article doesnot know that the overwhelming majority of people in Sool and Sanaag are Isaaqiis. Majority must always rule in accordance with democratic system. That happens in, for example Jabuuti, where members of Isaa clan occupy 90 per cent of all govemental post, Isaaqis in Jabuuti occupy only very insignificant posts, so are other Gadabuursi in Jabuuti. See the majeerteen dominated so called Pudland (budland), where there is no democracy, and majeerteen, occupy all the important posts. Be fair and stop naging. Somaliland is librated by armed struggle by the majority Isaaqiis, who, unlike Somalia, Ethiopia, Somalia, Jabuuti, adopted a vigorous demcracy.
Anybody can post an open letter to a head of state like Sillanyo but so-called intellectual individual from the diaspora and identifying certain posts in Somalilander government to be designated for particular tribes is absurd to say the least.
Somaliland has been enjoying fair and free elections over the last 21 years.
should one acquired the right skill set coupled with proven leadership integrity he/she should contest at the election polling stations at the right time. The president of Somaliland wasn't elected to pick appointees based on recommendations made by tribal driven groups as to whom should be held which post in Somalilander politics.
By using bargaining tactics for potential successful government in Somalia is shortsighted and unpatriotic. Anyone who would like to take part in Somalia's elections after August/12 is free go to do so however, Somaliland will be intact forever.

There's no need for articles of this kind. Somaliland is a flourishing democratic state of its own
making, having and embracing good power sharing of all the 6 provincial regions for the past
21 years since 1991 to current. There's no serious discontent in Awdal and selel, that's for sure.
As for the handful Khaatumo dissident group gangsters, these trivial matters are well under the control of
the Somaliland Govt and armed forces. Btw, The Govt of President Silaanyo always looks after the
interests of the minorities, that's for sure. Therefore, I don't see the importance of this wild geezer
article.
Cheers.
What is the matter? Silanyo Administration is in the process of erecting a new statue for dhuloz's super saint. Also a new Taleh hotel which bears all the marks and designs of the old one in Mogadishu will be built beside the new statue. Furthermore, 2 dozen of new recruits for secret services will be enlisted from Buhodleh and Taleh. By the time Khaatumo-seeg group see these new initiatives, they will come back from Mogadishu and everything is gonna be ok.
Warfa,
Talex is governing by it's own people. Sillanyo has inherited a perfectly robust government system by his predecessors he has promised to uphold the law of the land during the last presidential elections prior to his victorious. There're no secret services tasked for civilians anywhere in Somaliland. The government of Somaliland's primary responsibilities are to protect it's civilians and secure our colonial borders from internal as well as external intrusions and those are facts.

Reer Sool dagaalka iyagaa and Somaliland has to defence itself against any aggression. On the other hand, if their problem is power sharing, Muslim iyo Gaalo mid uun horta ha soo galeen! And they have to stop sea sawing Somaliland and Somalia. Xaydha jecli, beerka jecli will not cut it. They made their own bed so they might as well sleep on it.
… iyagaa bilaabay, that is.
President Silaanyo is also from the Khaatumo land and also the President of Somaliland Republic.
Isn't this hybrid extraordinary ? Indeed it is. The land of the Khaatumo is unbreakable from the Sool
Region..no way.
Cheers.
Why this people cannot show their number in the elections? No one is supposed to have a share in the government because he is that tribe or that region. We share a common destiny and we live in an area that will not be changed by a tribe. Therefore, our brothers must realize there is nothing for them in Somalia, even if stability comes back for them. Power hungry Majeerteen, and huge Hawiye who learn how to fight for power are waiting for you guys. You are safe with your Abtis and those you share blood.
Come back to your senses, please, specially those who live in Diasporas who do not know anything of what is going on at home.
I also have message for the old Garadag man. Enjoy it people.

THE SILANYO ADMINISTRATION IS FACING SOME TOUGH CHALLENGES CAUSED BY THE PRESIDENTS INABILITY TO DEAL WITH PROBLEMS ON THE GROUND. HE IS SURROUNDED BY PEOPLE WHO HAVE SELFISH INTERESTS BUT ARE CARRYING OUT ORDERS USING HIS NAME. AN EXAMPLE IS THE CURRENT PROBLEM WITH LAND DISPUTES WHICH ARE RESULTING IN LOSS OF LIFE AS SEEN IN HARGEISA. I AM NOT A FAN OF DAHIR RIYALE BUT UNDER HIS ADMINISTRATION THERE WAS NO CHALLENGE TO THE STATE AS THERE IS NOW.
I think the writer meant well when writing this article.
However, in the end he/she only succeeded in underestimating Somaliland. I am from Awdal region and I can tell you having visited there last year the inhabitants, including me are more pro-Somaliland than those from Hargeisa, burco etc. It is just a diaspora project that is going nowhere fast.
If one was to read your article you would think that Somaliland is a weak and collapsing state, show some respect to the people who above all reasserted their sovereignty and will defend it by any means.
