Somaliland: ALNUUR Furniture Scoops Top Award

HARGEISA—The ALNUUR Furniture Company has been recognized as the leading private company in community service provision nationwide. SOYADO a local youth NGO has awarded ALNUUR Furniture company a certificate in recognition for its outstanding community services as one of the top private sector institution.
Winners of the Dedicated Community service awards which honour companies and individuals are selected after a nationwide poll taken by SOYADO. According to the chairperson of SOYADO Mr. Mohamed Haroun Ahmed Somalilanders recognized ALNUUR Furniture Company’s engagement in community service as most visible and tangible considering that it was established in 2001
ALNUUR Furniture is deeply involved in subsidizing the Hargeisa based children’s orphanage which is home to over 500 orphans from various parts of the country, Somalia and neighboring Ethiopian zone five.
An elated Abdirahman Mohamed Nuur The managing Director of ALNUUR Furniture said that this award will give a fresh impetus not only to his community service engagement but commercial activities as well having come in the heels of a similar top award among 125 companies.
Other winners in the private sector category were Telesom and Somtel the two leading telecommunication giants in the country that came in second and third respectively.
These two rival communications giants, known to spend a lot of dollars on community development activities were beaten to the top prize by ALNUUR because of the winner’s short duration of existence.
17 personalities were also recognized with the top Dedicated Community service honours in the Individuals category awarded to the Gabile Mayor M/s Katra Haji Gedi for her exemplary service within the less than one year she has been in office. M/s Katra is also the only woman in the country to ever sit in the mayors’ parlour.
Second was the minister of finance Hon Mohamed Elmi Hashi for dedicated defence of public property, others included the minister of civil aviation, Director Hargeisa water agency, Sahil regional governor, MPS, citizens etc.
The awards were handed over to the winners by Hon Abdirahman Irro the speaker of parliament who thanked the awardees for their dedication and urged them to do more.
This is the second award to be scooped by ALNUUR Furniture in the recent past having won top award as the best company in Somaliland during the inaugural Somaliland Business Fair in Hargeisa in Dec 2011. The organizers of the SBF which attracted over 125 companies from 30 countries subsequently awarded ALNUUR Furniture the SBF First class commercial company certificate.
After receiving the best trading company award in the country, ALNUUR Furniture immediately announced a six months price reduction in goods to existing and new customers. This initiative has seen the company attract a large number of customers.
