HARGEISA(SomalilandPress)–Sources close to Abaarso Tech school have informed SomalilandPress that Abaarso Tech’s management team is so frustrated by government corruption and the clan politics they have run into that they plan to close Abaarso Tech and reopen a new school in neighbouring country. In the last few days Abaarso Tech was blocked from holding its entrance examination in Burco despite clear evidence SomalilandPress has seen showing that the Director General of Education fully approved Abaarso Tech’s right to hold this examination. It is possible that this situation has combined with well known issues Abaarso Tech’s management has previously had with the Minister of Education to create these rumors that the Americans are all said to be leaving. If it is true, SomalilandPress believes that Abaarso Tech leaving Somaliland would be a great loss to the country both educationally and for the symbol that Somaliland is a friendly place for Westerners.
Somaliland Press recently reported on five Abaarso Tech students receiving full scholarships to America and another Abaarso Tech student becoming the first Somalilander to be accepted to South Africa’s African Leadership Academy. SomalilandPress will try to speak with the management of school on the rumor that the school will be closing for good and moving it to neighbouring country.

Unbelievable! All our institutions are full of corrupt and immoral animals. Education is our best hope and AT is the best school in the country. How could they possibly benefit from this? and how are we ever going to succeed with despicable humans like the folk of the MOE?
ALL THE PROBLEM IS BASED ON "CORRUPTION' THAT IS MUTUALLY SHARED BY DA'UD OF EXAMINATION BOARD, THE DIRECTOR GENERAL, AND THE MINISTER ITSELF.
IT IS NECESSARY TO KNOW THAT THEY WANT TO HAVE A ROLE IN THE EXAMINATION SESSIONS SO THEY CAN CORRUPT AND TO HAVE AN ACCESS TO THE STUDENT SELECTING PROCEDURE
THEY MUST RESIGN BECAUSE THEY MADE VOILATION AND TREASON TO THE COUNTRY.
I am from AP students, we have an evidence that th both ministry of education officers and the examination board chaiman, Mr. Daud Mohamed Farah are used to sold some of the 50 seats of (student's #) allowed to took last year as a new students .
This is just same to their prevoius foolish and terror acts, as they want to manupulate the AP selection cretaria and the free and fair examination held by AT.
ILAAHAYOOW NAGA QABO TUUGTAN ISU KAAYA SOO URURSATAY.
PLEASE SAVE OUR SCHOOL FROM THE BRUTAL MINISTER, DG, AND DAAUUD KA EXAMINATIONS CHAIR
simply corrupt and immoral..They should be fired Where is the anti corruption Authority ?
Is Dr. Ahmed Issa not running Abaarso tech anymore , or has education ministry split with him to cause all the mess?
Please update me if you know anything about the possible closure of Abaarso Tech . This could be disaster for the Somaliland students currently enrolled in the school as well as for the future ones – and perhaps for Somaliland education system as a whole . I am determined to take this case right to the door of the donors if it turns out to be true .

Abaarso Tech is the best school in Somaliland. Jonathan and his crew leaving the country would mean that the top students would no longer have a good education. We are no longer going to send students abroad to prestigious prep schools or African Leadership Academy. It should be asked to Duuad and the Minister of Education directly whether they care about any of the students in the country. If they did, they wouldn't do this to them. They should have to face the 150 students who count on the teachers and management of AT directly–and they will see the passion that these kids have for that school.
Shame on you, Somaliland. do what is right, and compromise with AT and its management.

Ahmed Issa has never and does not run Abaarso Tech. He is a member of the Board of Directors and does not have any say in the day-to-day operations of the school.
From the information presented in this article, it sounds like Abaarso Tech is closing. You're right in that it would be a disaster for the current and future students, as well as the country as a whole. It's absolutely devastating that the Ministry of Education doesn't realize this.
waah waaah stop right there
you know what Mr. Ali, i quite feel sorry for you. do you know why, because when someone talks about something that he or she doesn't have any idea about, they get laughed at. and i am sure now everyone who has a mind and read your comment, laughed at you.
Ahmed Essa, Oops, i'm sorry i mean " Dr. Ahmed Essa" never run Abaarso Tech, because if he had run it, it wouldn't have reached the place that it reached today. but never mind, somalis were known to give credite people that they know not the people who deserve it.
And don't worry about Abaarso Tech be closing because AT will never close wether it stayed here or go to another place.
Friendy suggestion, next time talk about something that you actually know..
Farah.

Do I smell Waaheen fingerprints from this report? What about Medeshivalley.com is which also affiliated to Qarannews? Let us wait and see what comes next!
Loool Well said Dhuguse….It is my understanding those who are quick to judge without full knowledge of the facts….quick to blame the elected government, making empty allegations, no evidence to support these claims need to have their peanut sized brain examined. Some sick and ill Somalis from Somalia feed off from any negative news from Somaliland often concocting fake news thinking they would hurt this progressive and democratic African Nation.
They don't sound like empty allegations when Somaliland Press is saying that they have seen clear evidence that the school had permission to give the exam. Somaliland Press should make this evidence publicly available for everyone to see.
Also, "progressive" is a strong word to use when describing Somaliland.
Simply said, the Ministry of Education directs the Countries Technical and academic teachings
know-hows and should be familiar with the teaching techniques and the examination timetables.
It would look everything was working okay but the Minister stopping the examination date in Burco
should have a valid good reason. Don't forget the Minister and the DG and other officials approved
everything to go ahead according to the report of the above Blogger and on subsequent authority
by the Minister, the examination was cancelled, which means that the Minister found out something
went wrong down the line, shall we say…certain procedures were not fulfilled? Otherwise, what
interest is there for the Minister to interfere in the examinations if something didn't go wrong which prompted the Minister to act in this manner. Btw what happened to the old Burco Technical College. There used to be one in Hargeisa too. Those German built Technical Colleges could replace the AT if fails to function in Somaliland.
Cheers.
With all the corruption within top officials and ministers, I ask a simple question; Would there be a seller if there is no buyers? who these ministers are receiving the bribes from? Obviosly fellow Somalilanders, parents buying seats for their kids. WE ARE THE SOURCE OF CORRUPTION, WE ARE THE PAYERS AND WE ARE BUYERS FROM THESE CORRUPTED MINISTERS.
If each and every one of us refuse buying, bribing and paying forpidden money , not only to minister, but to any one, policeman, traffic, tax man, cival servants……….
Only then we will have hope to develope and florish. but as long as we are paying , dream on dream on to progress and devolpe.
I am not surprised and now everyone else will follow Abaarso including Coca cola, Silanyo's clan ministers are out of control. This is what happens when you put one habar that never had any power in power, like a starving hyena they empty everything. My advise for Abaarso is to open it in Djabouti but keep the current facility until silanyo, hersi gaab and amina weris are chased back to garadag where they used to aid al shabab.
Everyone will abandon them, one corrupted habar council falling apart. Somaliland is now no go zone for even schools
Same old malicious garbage. waar hooy duriyadan aad sifooyinka gaar ah ula kala baxday guul

kayse , please worry about your starving people down south than entering into this debate.
ASC, all
It is SAD to see alot of people are jumping to conclusion without any evidence, its realy SAD, instead of blaming the WHOLE Department, instead of BLAMING the entire nation, INSTEAD of BLAMING the whole Society of Corruprion, clan mentallity, BACKWARD, Ignorant, unworthy of anything,..etc etc…
WHY NOT…… ask Yourself Questions…… like
Is the article AUTHENTIC? if so, what went wrong? how much does the Dep knows about it? what is its share of the issue (assuming this is true and there is a problem), has there a corruption at play? is it Ta echnicallity issue, could there be a misunderstanding somewhere?
And LASTLY, is it Possible that AT (Abaarso Tech) themselves are to BLAME? I mean you're QUICK to BLAME our ENTIRE Society, so why NOT AT?
I guess you wouldnt do that…….WHY? Simply BECAUSE AT is a Shisheeye Entity (ohh did I mention that they are Shisheeye + Caddaan?), and they MUST ALWAYS be RIGHT…….. no matter what anyone else says….and their claims should be ACCEPTED as an AUTHENTIC… Needing no Verifications…….
It Really Hurts me to see most of our people are this Naive, BLINDLY accepting everything….. Allow dadka noo barakee…. oo Xaqa fahansii…aamiin
Mr. KAX, you repeated the word "BLAME" a lot and i just want to know what is your defination for that word.
since yu asked so many questions, i will try too answer some of them.
Zamzam cancelled the exams because she figured that if AT give the exams and the take the top 50 and afterwards the results come out they won't match. in other words people will see that the governmet wasn't honest with them with the results. we all know that the rich and well known people always take the top marks.
if your defiation of blame is going against corruption and giving opportunity to people who work hard and deserve a better education, then yes Abaarso is to blame. but if your defination is blaming people who are selfish and all they do is do something for their cousins, then our government is to blame.
Stop Whining!!!
How about we do something for ourselves? Why are we still waiting on 'whitey'?
It's 2012! We have Somalis all over the world in top corporate and educational positions; why haven't we started our own educational institutions, based on best practices and not just money making machines.
We have a whole host of businessmen right there in Hargeisa that are far wealthier than 'Jonathon', but they have failed to date in terms of their contribution to the national good. Nation building requires genuine goodwill, planning, resources and sacrifice. Anyone up for the challenge???
Shame on us!
You definitely speak for me.
wooow,
i like that you finally woke up and realize that somalis should do something for themselves. but i am just wondering if you were awake a long time ago or all it takes for you to wake up is kicking some innocent foriegners who were helping you own country out.
There is one more point that you are forgetting young gentelman. Somalis may go high, might be rich, have a lot of education, but the ones who come back here to help thier people are so SMALL.
Those rich businesmen that you are talking about couldn't succeed to open a school like Abaarso Tech in the country for the past twenty years. these white people that you are talking about were able to do it in three years. may be somali businessmen are way wealthier than jonathan, but jonathan and AT teachers are way more younger than them.
READ the last paragraph of the article and you will see what these white people have done that our "wealthy, educated" people couldn't do then judge them.
Everyone is fleeing from Somaliland since warlord Silanyo took office and filed every where with his family and Dhiigshiil al Shabab operatives like Hersi Gaab. Meanwhile Amina travels the world using money she stole from donors, which she got others locked up for.
Amina how was the new mansion in Nairobi for your inlaw Morgan/Bashe?
Asalaam Aleyku, HABAR JECLO DYNESTY . THIS POWERFULL AND LONG HISTORY OF VICTORIES ARE HERE TO STAY. AS ANY MUSLIM OR AFRICAN KNOWS VERY WELL . THIS IS VERY GOOD TRIBE AND HAVE THE MONEY,THE EDUCATION THE BRAVERY TO RULE NOT ONLY THE COUNTRY THEY CREATED FROM SCRATCH BUT ALSO INDIRECTLY MANY OTHERS.
THEY WILL RULE WITH AN IRON FIST, AND WILL CRASH ANY UPRISING COWARDS, WHO ARE ALSO POOR AND ILITRATE.
I TELL YOU , YOU ARE VERY LUCKY TO BE RULED BY THIS NOBLE TRIBE OF DECENT AND BRAVE WITH GOOD MONEY AND ARMY. YOU TELL WHAT YOU WANT . WHO ELSE CAN GIVE YOU SECURITY AND MONEY AND STABILITY,
THE HABAR JEC;LO IS THE RAISING POWER IN THE HORN OF AFRICA.
PLEASE DO NOT BE LIKE THE DOG WHO RUN AWAY FROM HIS TRUE OWNER. BE OBEDIENT.
Habr Jeclo should learn not to write in caps. annoying
You must be sad and tribest .Shame on them anyone who believes what you are saying!.
The guy SAID,SULEIMAN is not a real Somalilander but trying to create something else among the Somalilanders!
This will be a sad day. But Abaarso should have known that Somaliland is inhabited by emotionally unstable, paranoid, traumatised and poverty ridden people who suspect everyone and everything and believe their clan is being attacked. Perseverance is name of the game. If you aint got it you wont succeed in Somaliland. Helping Somalilanders It is like treating a wild, deranged, drugged-up shrieking horse. Only horses are marginally more reasonable and better educated than the average Somalilander. The horse doesnt know you are helping it so it will kick and bite. If you didnt expect that and didnt know the place and the people you were helping why come in the first place?
Quitters the lot of them.
Your observations on Somalilanders are quite astute, Abdikhadir. However, I would hesitate to call the people of Abaarso Tech quitters. This is not the first time that they have been treated unfairly by the government, specifically this ministry. Keep in mind, the Minister of Education and her Higher Education Commission appointed the board of directors for AT last December. This commission did not inform these board members of their appointment beforehand, as one of the appointees had not even heard of the school before. Another vowed to see the school destroyed. In the eight months this government-appointed board has been active, they have never had more than 6 of the 13 members attend a meeting. The government took control of this school and put it on a path to destruction a long time ago. AT has survived until now despite that.
Finally, if AT closes, they will never quit on the only people who have been loyal to the school, the students themselves. Whether they open another school in this country (unlikely) or in a neighboring one, AT will never lose their connection to their students. It's unfortunate for possible future students, but maybe it's time that Somalilanders stand up to their government to do what's right.
So they are quitters then? Why didnt go directly to old Silanyo who is probably the only reasonable man in the whole country? Why didnt they take the minister of Education to court(I know they are courts in name only but still would have shown a bit fight?)
Indeed why not punch few of the brain-dead moro.ns who are stopping them from doing their job? Best way to make yourself a name in somaliland is to punch someone(avoid the Salafists homocidals of course)
Fight for your students instead of throwing in the towel. And Donation button of your ebsite does not work. Neither is the Contact button.
I tried to contact them and they are unreachable. So it is probably all true. I think it is not a bad idea if they move to Djibouti for a while with a promise they will be back once Somalilanders calm down… and behave with little bit a dignity. In the meantime they can keep quota for Somalilanders in their Djibouti centre. Any students who wishes to join will simply have to get to djibouti and sit the entrance exam there bypassing Somaliland authorities altogether. Abaarso Tech must also openly name and shame those who chased them out of the country. They will be doing the people of Somaliland a disservice if they did not name them.
there is a somali proverb that says " kabihiisa ka tosha kafankaaga tola" which basically means the one that you prepare his future, prepares your fenural. that is excatly what is happening with Abaarso.
Abaarso does everything to help somaliland and its students. their gift was threating them that they ganna be kicked out.
What a manners!!!
i know for a fact that Somalilandwill regret if AT closes just like how they regret when they refused the British to build a university in Somaliland. At that time there excused was they were afraid that the british would influence them what is there excuse now? AT is not the right school for somalis? it's missionary school?
Aren't we growing up? we are where we were 22 years ago! Aren't w ready for develpment?
I don't understand why do we think that every forieng will change our religion and our "culture".
When a one is a TRUE muslim, he or she shouldn't be afraid that someone may come and convert them. One should be cofident with his Iiman and know that no matter what happened he won't covert into another one. that is the defination of a TRUE MUSLIM. About te culture, culture is what you great great grandfather were doing. our grandfathers were nomadics, they were not educated. Now we are educated we develping, the world is changing, we shouldn't do everything that they did. we should better, interact with other, use our minds and education to define our lives. we shoudn't let our old culture to define our lives.
Somaliland, it is time for us to move forward and to think for ourselves….
Due to corruption, tribalism, nepotism, hatred, lack of vision, Somaliland has been the same for the last 21 years. Some things improved for better while others went down the drain.
Infrastructure, education, healthcare, municipality services and governing all went down the drain while individuals/people improved their basic life in terms of rebuilding their private homes and businesses.
Government is zero. Education is getting worse and worse. There are so many students today but its not the quantity but the quality and the quality of education in Somaliland is almost non-existent.
Abaarso Tech tried to do something but how can a single school change a society that is deeply embedded with corruption, tribalism, nepotism, etc.
If your Isaaq your Somaliland and if a Dhulo from Sool requests fair go he is simply a faqash. He is forced to celebrate May 18 even though for them the day is the national cleaning day.
Even within Isaaq there is so much hate, division, corruption, favortism, etc. Giving two subclan a state will be the greatest disaster in Africa—more dangerous than AIDS/HIV/droughts/famine.
Abaarso Tech, must lobby the USAID and State Department to channel aid and fund for Somalis in the north by new means and not use the corrupted Somaliland regime and their tribal affiliates.
We can develop new options to channel in much needed assistance that bypasses the current corrupted regime that only deals with their own family.
I am from Hargeisa, an Isaaq of the Garhajis and I know dividing Somalia will be a great disaster. We suffered 21 years already and USAID must cut all financial ties from Somaliland.
The international community should not develop million accounts for every Somali tribe—they must channel all financial assistance through Somalia's recognized institutions. No doubt, the corruption in the south needs to be tackled so should the one in the north which so far enjoyed total immunity operating under a stealth mode.
Somalia is one, one account, one embassy, one president, one financial body.
You little fibber. You are the same Kayse that writes on horufadhi. Your hatred for Isaqs is almost volcanic. But I hate Isaqss too when they behave like they just did with AT. I also blame Khat – the evil weed has changed the character of the people.
If you want to know the truth here rather than biased reporting in behalf of Abaarso let me you as I know this firsthand from Burao…
Abaarso Tech staged an examination for students in eastern regions and the University of Burao kindly agreed to let them use their facilities for free. However, when the Minister of Education heard this she said to stop immediately. The reason was the exam results for intermediate students have not yet been published so these students taking exams had not even been officially out of grade 8. Furthermore, some grade 7 students were taking the exam. The problem was that Abaarso was doing their own exam but out of step with the official ministry.
Now when the University followed the Ministry's order the Abaarso team became very angry. Jonathan abused the leaders of the Univesiyy even though they were simply carrying out orders from above. He verbally threatened the deputy vice chancellor and used horrible degrading language. He took off his shoes in protest and the Uni workers said he was acting like a little child with no respect for anyone. He abused the locals, the university, the country of Somaliland. Laughingly he threatened to stop US funding for Somaliland as if he is the one who controls this.
This Is the true story so dont accuse our Government before you know the facts.
The government should not have interferred fullstop. This is a private institution and they can recruit and exam whoever they wish. And you underestimate the influence American citizens with knowledge of a region can have on American policy-making including funding. If they go back and write a report to the relevant US depts telling what rotten place Somaliland is it will influence future policy making and more importantly private investment from American companies.
The moro.ns who chased out these people who came to help us should all be sacked. The lot of them
Listen, I am a great supporter of Abaarso Tech and have followed their progress over the past year, I have even made plans to volunteer there in the future. But if we're theoretically speaking and are assuming that what the gentlemen above has said is true, then I can't help but agree with the government.
I agree that our government can be interfering, lazy and all about showmanship BUT if in any way shape or form Abaarso Tech was violating some sort of policy or norm then I genuinely believe it was in the Governments right to come down hard on them. Particularly because it sends out the message that you are not above the law or should not expect special treatment because your are a foreigner.
Whether it is a private institution or not it still is an education providing institution so will ALWAYS ( whether you are in the UK or elsewhere) come under public/public authority scrutiny.
I hope this rumour of it closing down is not true though, it is a fabulous institution with a great ethos.
Abdullahi is one of the ministers' little pawns who does absolutely anything she says. Apparently she's told him to write on websites now. This is how far she goes to cover her lies. If his comments above were true then why are the people of Burco furious at the Ministry and not at Jonathan? The people of Burco were there and they know the truth.
Abdullahi conveniently leaves out the Ministry of Education approving this exam. That is an indisputable fact!
The Ministry of Education is trying to make it as though Jonathan is attacking the entire Somaliland government when there's no evidence that he's doing anything other than defending his school against the Ministry of Education's lie that Abaarso gave an exam illegally.
It is sad that the Ministry is full of of "yes men" willing to mislead and lie just to make the Minister happy. In the case of Abdullahi he is somewhere in his 60s and he still doesn't use him own brain. Why can't people like Abdullahi focus on improving education in Somaliland? People in power who abuse their positions are the real enemies of Somaliland.
Here's another question. Why does it take the Ministry of Education 3 months to grade an exam every year? Why are they paying lots of money to hand grade exams when they could use technology that's been around since the 1980s?
Don't be Silly. Private and public schools alike are subject to the Ministry of Edication.
This whole thing comes down to pride. Just because they are American does not mean they can overrule the Minister in the Government.
Actually 'The Truth' aka Jonathan, every local Burao citizen I have spoke to this week has only had negative things to say. How dare you treat locals in the shameful way you did? The only people supporting Abaarso are the 14 year olds who Jonathan caused to riot in the University of Burao, breaking trees and destroying plants – all because he told them he could send them to America.
Jonathan has many supporters because unlike you, he does something positive for the country. You just continue to spread lies as not a single person did a single thing harmful in Burao. If not, why wasn't anyone arrested? You have absolutely no facts on your side.
Bottom line is that the Ministry approved an exam and then they went back on their word. Then, they accused people of breaking the law instead of just saying, "we messed up." Sad that Abdullahi would prefer lie for his job than support children in his own country. What a selfish old man.
I am done with this as I have better things to do than argue with a pawn who couldn't care less about his own people.
i won't say a lot except everything you said was CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clearly a Ministry worker. Anyone who watches the news knows the important people in Burco are furious at the minister and support AT.
Just to put it out there in UK a 1st world country – it takes about 2/3 months to mark the exams even though they use said technology…
If our "leaders" are thinking logically and obviously, reading what they were signing before they sign then nothing like this will have happened. The truth is that our leaders need some leaders for themselves. What part of being responsible dont they understand? Running from the truth to an unrealistic world was a "wonderful" choice that our current leader has made. Just one instant explains a lot about our country and if you want to deny the truth there are some people, like AT students, who are willing to speak of it.
For your information, many schools take their freshman students before the examination results are published. Who says something about it? YOU? The government? The minster? The real answer is no one. This is because everyone is pretending that they don’t see or know while in fact it is happening right in their faces. So, ask yourself why this is a big difference? OH I know some difference, AT had done it in a professional way, didn’t hide it from anyone, and acted maturely. The biggest difference is that AT stuff are foreigners. Besides that, Somaliland examination is unfair and when I say unfair I do mean the real unfair not just the spoken one. Many students cheat with all support and encouragement from their fellow instructors. And when AT and SOS are giving their exams they gave it to the “best” students from this exam. Many students don’t deserve this title and their position and many who deserve have been pushed aside without a chance. So, is it a crime if AT looked at those innocent faces and decided to give everyone a chance to prove their talent? To me and to many people who have the right functioning mind this was a fabulous idea and could have been progressed well. Instead, some are suppressing it but it is so tragic that it’s the government.
I am confused! When we see a thief, we simply say a thief, when we see a teacher we say a teacher but when we see a lair it is forbidden to say a lair. But now I am telling you it isn’t forbidden and may all the lairs delete themselves from the world. Because the world will be heaven without them. For anyone who deserves to be abused shall be abused. Great job to who ever had the courage to abuse people who deserve (J.Starr).
Speaking from the heart takes a real courage and confidence. Unlike, some of us who comment now who have been paid to be biased and speak of a lie, I ask a real mercy for you and your fellow leaders. Sooner or later the truth will come up and your little nose will be dragged with shame.
“This Is the true story so dont accuse our Government before you know the facts.” Extremely unpleasant and not welcomed. A better sentence for you will be, “This is false story but please don’t accuse the government.”
Actually you can see the letter of approval from the Ministry of Education on Abaarso Tech's site. http://www.abaarsotech.org
Why are you lying, Abdullahi?
Whatever people's opinion on this issue is, the fact remains: the government should be encourging the progress of Abaarso Tech, which it isn't, Due to tribe affliations and clan politics, Somalilanders are missing out on the oppurtunity to get an education on par with the rest of the world. Those who have to fortune of studying there, are the most unfortunate victims of this all.
To all those who were sceptical about the guys at Abaarso and their claims, check these two links: http://abaarsotech.com/ https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=414903385…
