SOMALILAND: 308 Former SSC rebels join military

January 6, 2012   ·   29 Comments

LAS ANOD — Somaliland will add hundreds of former tribal rebels who embraced a government deal last year into its regular armed forces, official said on Friday.

Mohamed Adan Geele (Urri), former rebel leader and commander, told local press that he prepared more than 300 former tribal militants based in Buhoodle for the Somaliland National Army. He said after successful demobilisation and rehabilitation programmes following President Silanyo’s peace deal, they were ready to register for military jobs.

He announced the new army has already established bases across Buhoodle and Sool provinces in particular in Buhoodle city, Sool-Jogto, Meygagle and Horu-Fadhi. He added they also had civilian office in central Buhoodle city.

The group were part of an armed tribal militant that operated in parts of Sool and Buhoodle region. They clashed with Somaliland forces several times in Widwid and near Buhoodle city. When President Silanyo was sworn-in in July 2010, he offered them amnesty and urged them to join hands in the struggle to move forward. The majority of the former SSC militant embraced the peace accords but a small number funded by few individuals in the Diaspora including Northern Somali Unionist Movement (NSUM) continues to destabilise the region.

The recently announced state governors, police commissioners and council leaders for Buhoodle region are said to have reached Buhoodle city to take up their new posts.

Silaanyo knows how to dismantle rebels, terrorists and militants. Force never works, let them be and think they in charge and before you know they will be fighting each others, it is then that you extend your arm to one or two of the warring factions…this is Silanyo's agenda including how to deal with Taleex conference.

It appears already there are many groups fighting each others in Taleex very soon some will run to Puntland, some Mogadishu and some will run to Hargeisa. Hargeisa has to collect the fittest and in the showdown it seems Ali Khalif Galaydh has the upper hand against the rest because the rest are uneducated nomads who never left their little villages with no roads.

How will Somaliland convince Mr Galaydh to join is yet to be seen even though secretly he has ties with Hargeisa and Addis Ababa but the details are shady…the whole conference is secrecy to everyone including to Dhulbahantes.

Ali Khalif has a plan, others have another…the big fist fight is now between Ali Khalif and SSC militant member Ali Isse Abdi, who was in Hargeisa not long ago.

What Somaliland has to do is leave the conference alone, keep its army close, improve its intelligence in Las Annod, Buhooddle, etc and just watch the SSC and other Dhulo groups such as the new G6 and NSUM destroy each others.

Somaliland doesn't need Ali Khalif, may be we should send him to you for rehabilitation. The guy is out of it, He hates his roots in Somaliland yet claims to be a Somali leader. How the hell can he claim to love those who live in Mogadishu, Baidoa and kismayo, while he hates those who live next door neighbors. believe me the only language this people speak is the language of the gun and terrorist must be dealt through the barrel of the gun not through bribes and good will.

I bet you two have special spots in some mafrish in London, I am sure the impression of your backs are drawn on the walls of these mafrishes since every time I read the comments on this website you are always one and two. And Kayse, you have a black heart, I am an Isaak and people like you are the ones who give us a bad name. I have relatives from all Somali clans and Somali is one big tree with many branches, you cannot take us apart. Believing in Somaliland does not mean you should throw sand in the other Somalis faces.

    Kayse and other Somalilanders

Our great country has too much enemies and the proof is Somalia which is under a enormous fire for the last 21yrs. Our enemies are not smart, they just keep hating our great country Somaliland and they get hell back in exchange of their ugly hate. Stupid enemies, I don't know when they will realize that Somaliland has gone for good and that Somaliland is Africa's best kept secret.

Dhulbahante is a big part of Somaliland and will never get anything benevolent for them other than Somaliland. They are our people and we are their brothers. Whatever some might say, the reality is that we belong to a country called Somaliland that needs us, and we need it. Let us build and forget the tribal affiliations which never help. Who said that Dhulbahante belongs to Harti who slaughtered or took part their slaughter in Mogadishu.

The only place for them and us is Somaliland, were all Somalilanders wish them to join and be part of Somaliland, the home of all. We have decided together to create once again this noble land and we expect you all to come to the fold. God bless us all.

Somaliland is a one house with multi- clans and inshAllah we will hold hands, dulbahantes were part of us before and are part of us now (we share everything and do everything together and they too may rule Somaliland no problem). InshAllah if greater Somalia failed than a partnership Somaliland-Somalia will emerge. Personally I feel sad that greater Somalia failed :( but we have to seek what is good and practicable for us which is not to unite with Somalia and their bunch of out of control wild clans. And Somaliland will protect their country from any violation and will not allow anything or anyone to destroy a freedom that we fought for and died for. We emotionally got blinded by sisterly love before and should never make the same mistake again. Somaliland is Africa's best kept secret and a rare democracy and government in an African country that has a tribal issues, excellent! and we should protect this and teach it to Somalia :D

ps. Somalilanders please refrain from insulting eachother and our country men dulbahantes even-though some of them are quite violent in sool region. They think we hate them and we think they hate us and can't stand us but we need to understand each other and together make a change. Easy said than done but khair inshAllah and peace for all

Well said! It took me some time to realize that union of somali people has failed even without the missing parts. I belive though it's the failaure of people not ideas, great ideas never die! so don't feel sorry about it. Not sure what next generations will choose 50 or 100 years later but today union has proven to be futile. I hope our eastern country fellows will do the right thing in their current gathering. I belive the government should do more to " make it more appealing" for them and even grant them some degree of autonomy.

As for Kayse, the guy's not as bad as you think. He says both good and bad things just like anybody
else but has more knowledge than most. Overall, he's not black hearted and understands good from
bad. Don't let him steal you away, he's too skillful and shrewd. He changes with the tides in the oceans

Amal, it is good to know that most of the so-called SSC came to their senses and ready to join the nation building and progress, peace and stability of their country and for better tomorrow that will benefit everybody, especially our children. Having said that. We don't insult them, but we react to their insults, provocations, and attacks on us. If they don't want to be insulted they should refrain from insulting us. It goes both ways.

Kayse, misslovely and Nora, are you state advocate or clan advocate? ever heard of political correctness? if you were talking about SSC that would make sense because it's a militant group but you can't point finger to clan(s) while advocating for a state that considers those clans to be part of it. If you are however clan advocate that's another issue, let's make things clear.

Isse, us means all peace loving people Somaliland from coast to coast and will hesitate to defend their citizens and the sovereignty of their country and are proud ro be Somalilanders. Them, on the other hand, are those who have a grudge against Somalilanders and want to do us harm if they get a chance.

The Puntlandgeezer is misinformed Darood kid from Xamar Jajab who doesn't know what he is talking about most of the time, but seeking attenton. He is a source of annoyance all right and tries hard to ruffle some feathers, in order to score a point. He also tries to practise his English communication here and I really don't want to pay that much attention him.

I wonder why Somalilanders always talk about the 1988 war with then Somali government. Governments always fight with rebels, so what is so unique with the Somaliland War? Why do they always complain about the rest of Somalis.Siad Barre’s government committed atrocities against many tribes, So why Isaaqs always cry? Are you not guys Somalis?

     Reply
  21. isse says:

Siad Barre is a beaten to death topic. Somalilanders are somalis but smart ones indeed and nobody is crying mate, i mean did you just learn about Somaliland and wanted to know the fuss about it? Somaliland is a choice that had been taken two decades ago and it's proving to be the best one again and again whenever we watch or hear about the disaster in Somalia.

I'd like to add something and i suppose your questions were innocent. Somalilanders didn't feel to fit in with somalis from the first day. Somalilander officers staged a coup d'état in 1961 (but failed) because of marginalization and in the same years somalilanders voted no (two-third majority) for the new constitution, these are just two examples. Atrocities comitted by the regime only exacerbated the situation and somalilanders' sentiments leading to no return point.
