Somalia arrests men in buqra during a security operation

MOGADISHU — Somali security forces detained three suspected militants of al Shabaab on Tuesday in Yaqshid district in the Somali capital wearing burka, police say.

Mohamed Mahmoud Yalahow, the district police chief of Yaqashid, said the three individuals were arrested in the area while they were robbing one of the shops.

Mr. Yalahow and the district governor Mr. Muhudin Hassan Julus displayed the men to local media during a press conference in Mogadishu. Mr. Yalahow said two men were wearing buqra, an Islamic dress code for women, to disguise themselves. He did not say whether they had weapons or explosives with them.

Media reports said the father of one of the detainees who spoke there said he was in total shock to see his son arrested in a dress.

Local authority claim they belong to al Shabaab but it is not clear whether they were just local gangs looking for cash or militants.

Some of the residents fear they will be wrongly prosecuted if they were just a gang robbing the shop.

Somalia has not had a functioning government for 21 years and security remains a big challenge.

      the somali culture is one of the most backward cultures if we look at in a Islamic perspective. We should not be following culture but ISLAM. Rehabilitation of terrorists is not possible. Let these terrorists face swift justice and face the shooting squad sooner. Or even better, take them to a confined space and help them with enough of their improvised divices so that this sets a good example for any would be disturber of peace and those who deny our people to live in security and peace. Sheikh Sharif's weakness is that he sends these idiots for more Quran schooling hoping against hope that they will be reformed. It will not and should not happen!

A man disguised in a burqa is upto no good. Let justice and law and order prevail in the land.

On a serious note: True Muslims are the ones that practice their faith like prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and his followers. The closest , I think, that come to following the prophet's suunah and Allah's (SWT) decree are the SALAFI. Sufism is a cult as far as I am concerned and not a true representative of Islam. Sorry if I offended anyone, but people need to know what they are getting into in the first place. On the other hand, Wahabism, certain things I like about it, and other things are enigma.

sufis are the ones who spread islam in somalia & in African but todays the khawaarija are in force in southern somalia, nigerian, mali etc killing people randomly, beheading, suicide bombers.

northern somalia still has strong sufi influence while the southerns are mostly wahabi.

In London there are tons of lost somali woman wering jibab who are queuing up in mosque looking for a jamaican husband, these somali woman have be brainwashed, they have chosen adoon over somali men.
