Ahmed-Arwo-Hargeisa

>HARGEISA — Somaliland Presidential Economic Advisor Ahmed Hassan Arwo sent on Thursday a condolence letter to Ethiopian people and their government over the death of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.

In the letter, Mr. Arwo expressed his heartfelt condolences over the death of Mr. Meles, who died on Monday in the Belgian capital Brussels.

With enormous grief and distress, the Somaliland Government and People, received the unfortunate and sudden death of H.E. Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. We convey our deep condolences to PM Meles’s family, the Government and the people of Ethiopia.

As a leader of a friendly state, late Prime Minister Zenawi tirelessly built a solid relationship between our two governments, which successfully developed into a friendship between two nations. This relationship is strategically of immense value, not to us only, but to the entire region and in many aspects to the worldwide peace and stability. We, in Somaliland would always remember Ato Meles Zenawi as a friend that outshined the rest at the time of need.

We trust that, the strong health of Ethiopian democracy is capable to create a peaceful transition of power. That will empower the next leadership with necessary gear to take forward the vision of Late PM. With that in mind, we believe our brotherly relations will grow from strength to strength.

Finally and needless to say, we are with Ethiopia, government and people in mourning and we confide in, that H.E. PM Meles Zenawi’s bereaved family, as a symbol of strong nation, will find the strength and bravery to overcome with these trying and difficult times.

Mr. Ahmed Hassan Arwo

  3. Somaliland says:

I rather send these kind of letter of condolences to Ethiopian leadership than sending to enemies of Somaliland who murdered over 60,000+ Somalilanders.
Do you expect Somalilanders will ever send to the likes of " The butchers of Hargeisa" the like of Morgan and his supporters? give me a break!

  4. Allemagan says:

It is sad day for Somalia when thousands of us gather at Ethiopian illegal office in Hargeisa and mourn the death of Meles Zenawe as Azeb Misfin. It makes you sick to the stomach when you see someone as old as Ali Warabe who witnessed the loss of reserve area cry for Miles.

While it is natural for Ethiopians to mourn a great leader for their country, it is not natural for some Somalis to outdo them. Who mourned for our country that was given to Ethiopia btw the colonial powers? Who mourned for the thousands of our people who were massacred the occupied territory and inside Mogadishu by Males?
Somalis everywhere should mourn the death of their nation.

    • Allemagan says:

Massacred in the occupied territory and inside Mogadishu that is

Ahmed Arwo is repected man among Somalilanders. I met him once in Cardiv in Wales, and he was a towering figure. i was on vacation, and was very pleased to find Ahmed Arwo and his community members who werevery open and friendly to me. I remeber him as pleasant and socialy inteligent person. He was presenting himself as well informed about Somaliland and the horn of african region. I thought he would become a minister after the Kulmiye election victory. BHowever, it nice to hear from him

  6. Brooks says:

    Dear PuntlandGeezer

As Ethiopian and out side observer,Mr Ahmed Hassan Arwo's letter has great interest and weight with Ethiopian authorities than ceremonial letter of condolence sent by president his excellency Mr Silanyo.Because he is economic advisor to the presedent. If today you visit Jijiga Degehabour,Birkot Kebridehare and Shelavo you will be astonished to find out the influence of Somaliland. My friend You might observe how every items on every Suk have Hargessa and Burou signature.Actually now as we communicate the economical power influence of Somaliland is huge to ignore in Ogaden. Thanks.

  7. Abd Al-Aziz Ali Nuur says:

    I'm puzzled!!!
What has Ethiopia or Meles Zenawi actually done for Somaliland?
Can someone post an article listing the meritorious achievements of this so called 'special relationship'.
Really! It has all passed me by in the last 2 decades!!

It's may be acceptable to express some kind of sympathetic viewpoint when a non-Muslim passes away.;however; I think comments like 'enormous grief and distress, etc' are well beyond the pale. We are Muslims Alhamdulilah and should follow the Quran and Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam).

We need a serious reality check!!!

      Abd Al-ZIZ.
Some of These folks live some sort of double vision mentality.ethiopia done nothing for Them, it’s all about to sell Them selfs to The ethiopians and The others as They done The last two hundred years.

It’s The heritage and The culture of some is@@qs to follow or became servant to foreigners.no one knows why but it need research.Accept only excuse They have barre/afweyne kill us,well, barre kill all somalis.

      • DaughterOfSomalia says:

It is not just isaq, its all these idiotic somali leaders from North, South and West who have been sending condolences, and some of them going as far as lighting candles and crying in public.

  8. Allemagan says:

    @Brooks

If Somaliland goods are prominent today in Jigjiga, Kebredahre, Dhegebur, Birkot and Shilavo, it is because that all those cities belongs to Somalia and were illegally handed over to Abyssinia. The merchants are Somalis and the customers are Somalis. We do not sell anything to Ethiopians. Although we unnecessarily buy a lot of khat from Abyssinia, you will never find a Somali buying a teff. Brooks, did you ever buy anything from Somali ?

As for your comment about Mr. Arwo and as his importance as an economic advisor, you need to understand the politics of the separatists in north Somalia. We are a republic recognized by no one. We have ambassadors who work as labourers in every country and continent. We have an economic advisors who are fending for living in Wales who hardly ever set foot in Hargeisa. Do not be deceived by the fake titles and crocodile tears. Most of our people in northern Somalila and in every other regio in Somalia know who is occupying our country by force.

    Please do not patronize.

    • nuur says:

      Allemagan.
I could ADD more but you said all.good comment.

  9. Ayuush says:

I can very well understand the distruction that happened to Somaliland by the former dictator and his cronies, but sucking up to our no 1 enemy, who's only desire was to take over our country and seaside, is really going too far. Subhaanallah! when did we become that sissy?
