The character of president Ahmed M. Mahamoud Silaanyo is what defines and extrapolates the phenomenal achievements attained in the short duration that he has been at helm and that ultimately differentiates him from his predecessor. For one, Ahmed M. Mahamoud Silaanyo has been public servant with a moral responsibility to his country (Daanaya Dalkis) and not a politician. After he was robbed of the presidency in 2003 with the concocted bogus mere 80 plus votes, we saw the valor and dignity in which he conducted him-self with and the manner in which he chose the path of unity and cohesion of his country and accepted defeat. His convictions and fidelity to these sacred and inviolable principles that he incessantly defends is what shapes his character. Sacrificing on behalf of all and being obligated and compelled by moral commitment is nothing new to Ahmed M. Mahamoud Sillanyo.

The accomplishments of his administration be it the making of primary and elementary education free or the doubling of salaries of the armed forces is not just the right thing to do but personifies the decency, fairness and justice to our ever greater ideals as a nation. Ahmed M. Mahamoud Sillanyo public life of servitude encapsulates an aura of common purpose and sense of community.

The president’s polycentric frame of delegating by consensus, hitherto foretold the permitting of the political parties, the president’s leadership style of co-opting all stakeholders allies and competitors alike in contributing into the country’s process of decision making. The committee he relied on to help select ministers for his cabinet and the many current advisors he currently retains only reaffirms his virtues and personifies the president’s ethos of dialogue and consensus garnered from reasoning together (talo-wadaagga). The ushering in of new political party’s offer us the synthesis platform of debate, civil arguments, where with the pluralistic participatory democracy; we can ventilate our eclectic views and divergent ideas through the political party of our choosing.

This president is not a one that is out of touch. He is occasionally observed strolling and shopping in the markets of Hargeisa unaccompanied which is portent of his operational capacity and economic background that is rooted to reality and pragmatic in his approach. The new NGO laws also go towards addressing and aligning the needs of our most vulnerable citizens by bring their plight to the forth front.

This president’s courtesy, civility and quality of temperament is why many previous politicians of president Rayale’s avaricious administration who robbed Somaliland blind hand over fist are walking free, with all their political posturing and legal maneuvering they left Somaliland with their banal empty maxims and no guilt or shame ever expressed to the magnitude of their callous deeds.

President Ahmed M. Mahamoud with his political acumen and statesman stature has been able to leverage Somaliland on its strengths. When the SSC militia blatantly provoked Somaliland into conflict by its the aggression, the president instead sought to resolve the issue peacefully and stretching an open hand (Gogol-dhig) which commenced in accordance to our participatory traditions of public discourse of debate through reasoning and compromise while remaining true to perdurability of Somaliland’s nomadic idiom of peace and milk (Nabad iyo Caano) that we live by.

Somaliland was also able to stretch its helping hand and come to the aid of its fellow neighbors and brothers in the South. This mirrors the peace loving and god fearing people that we are and our constitution that is based on Islamic laws and fundamental tenants of democracy.

pres silaanyo President Silaanyo is bearer of peace and prosperity

President Ahmed Silaanyo

Economically we have leap-frogged with the trilateral agreement with Ethiopia and China with tangible stakes for all. Ethiopia is not only Africa’s fastest growing economy but is one of the world’s fastest growing economies, which bodes well for every aspect of our economy. The people of Somaliland have much to offer to Africa and rest of the world. The pride, the resilience and drive of the Somaliland people are second to none. We are innovative, hardworking and willing to embark on any new frontier where prosperity may loom, just as our nomadic ancestors were on the move in seeking greener pastures.

We have been able to leverage our strategic geographic location within this trilateral agreement. As Richard Burton put it “Berbera is the true key of the Red Sea, the center of East African traffic”. The people of Somaliland by a virtue of their geographical region from Zeila to Las Korey have been steeped in art of commerce and trade. The port and the people of Somaliland can become the all-important commerce-link of Ethiopia with the outside world. Domestically this will have the project will have a multiplier effect that can propel us to new plateau. We stand to benefit immensely from Petro Trans investments in our infrastructures.

The building of an oil refinery also means small factories since the by products from refining are made into several products thus requiring such factories. The building of roads and the transportation of the goods will require logistics and supply-chain management and the superior port will have greater capacity that will ultimately lower prices of all staples.

In the end, Anyone can be a leader and hold a political office and have sharp tongue to sway the masses, but there are not many like Ahmed M. Mahamoud Silaanyo who with their vision can call all to work for the betterment of Somaliland and been able to create the culture and direction of the country to a one more conducive for goal attainment and that inspires all citizens to pursue laudable goals.

We all can remember the outcry and uproar that emanated from the president at his dismay of the looted and empty national coffers in addition to millions dollars in debt it was saddled with. And still he was the same person a month later that picked up the first dirt with his shovel and called all to lend a hand in the national cleaning campaign throughout the country. Somaliland has a true and loyal public servant!

We should be able to ask all our leaders and the heads of all the new political parties, Where is your shovel?

Inshallah (God willing) until the day we have more investors than Aid workers in Somaliland.

United we prevail.

I think you heard about the DARWISH STATE created while your hero is incharge. Under Riyale it could not have happened he was a bold and tough stateman. On the contrary Silanyo is weak leader not decisive and can not take hard decision.

    @madhobe,
it has nothing to do with Silanyo, SSC was created while Riyalle was president plus, no one can stop a clan meeting, if you do you will prove dhulbahantes point that you are enslaving, which is true.

    • I Jama says:

Dhulbahantes are Somalilanders and if they don't want Somaliland they can move to Somalia. If they don't want to give up Somaliland but still wish to be part of Somalia then it shows that a land cannot be moved but people can move. Thus no inslaving what so ever has been done to them. Somalilanders who do not want Somalia cannot be expected to join a failed, dangerous, lawless, devasted, mahem, occupied by multiple factions, likely to be further divided and ruled by christain/peagan nations who have no interest in Somalilanders welfare.

Whilst the Dhulbahante can enjoy relative peace in Somaliland it isn't possible for them in Somalia.

I must admit I'm an admirer and a fun of President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud. Although, the author is telling the truth as is, but he forgets that we in Somaliland do not shower praises this spicy on an incumbent President, because this is only done by natural Guulwades like Mohamed Abdillahi Omer and Mr. Faysal the D.G. of the ministry of information. Please avoid repeating this next time.

Nice try and good timing pal but it won't work for you. I don't think heaping praise like this upon president silanyo will help our cause. I personally think that president silanyo is not a bad person but I don't he has got the energy, drive and mental alertness to carry on the busy schedule demanded by the presidency. Apart from his age he is also suffering from multiple ailments including diabetics, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension and liver scelorsis etc. which makes him not only housebound but sedated most of the time as he is required to take daily doses of strong medications which makes him incapable of concentrating, focusing and make rational decisions on important matters.

Reliable presidential aides have confirmed that most of the important decisions are reached for him by few unelected inner circle clique and there is a fear that the country is sleep-walking to constitutional crisis. So cut the crap and make some noises to wake up this octagenarian president instead of licking his boots, otherwise we all rue the day that we elected him for the highest office in the land. A case in point is the clear threat from the so called "Taleex Conference" and my question is why did he allowed it to be held there in the first place? and having seen and heard what they were up to why is he waiting them to declare their phantom state inside the borders of Somaliland when he has nearby thousands of troops armed to the teeth?

    • Zakariye says:

I don't think age comes into the president's workload. In fact I do believe that because of his age the president is wiser and more rational with his decisions. But the question here is which side are you anyway? Because you seem to be putting the president down and being very unfair to him?

  10. I Jama says:

Somalilanders are happy with their elected President. His health does not affect the principle reasons we elected him. He also listens to his cabinet and this has proven effective on the most part. Thus, if it isn't broken or illegal why jump the gun. There is a legal process for each eventuality and the people are alert enought to react accordingly.

As for the former President Riyaale, He was given a chance and hang himself with others proving that we can give others a chance to hang themselves. Which is what democracy is about? Learning our lessons without jumping down each others throats.

If people of Sool and sanaag take advantage of the government's kindness and softness towards them then they will only harm themselves really badly. They are equal citizens just like their fellow issaqs and gadabursis. Somaliland did not join Somalia to return with parts of its limps missing and will not allow this what so ever

President Silanyo is a good man, he is the first president who went to Sool to reach the residents there wanting to build bridges. He is serious about uniting his people and he is doing whatever he can to win the support of his fellow countrymen in Sool but apparently most of them see hartism and not where their interest lies.

Nevertheless, I don't think Silanyo will be elected again next election because Somalilanders always crave for changes plus he is quite old. So let's give him whatever chance he has rather than being on his throat all the time. Viva Somaliland Viva Silanyo

obviously dhulbahantes are triblist, why would they choose somalia a failed state with no law or order over somaliland? If you look back at why Puntland was created, it was to stop the Somaliland independence; dhulos are not happy with Somaliland as evident on the ground today. They created SSC since they don't want to be part of Somaliland. this is coming from a proud darood, darood biggest fear is officially recognised Somaliland. its nightmare for daroods, not only the daroods be divided but they will be minority in both somalia & somaliland. a majority hawiya in the south & majority issaq in the north.
soz the best solution is to hide under somali nationalism.

      • amal says:

I do agree with you mostly here, see you fire some truths sometimes kkk. I mean what else can explain why darood go crazy when the recognition of Somaliland is mentioned. there is nothing wrong with darood as a large clan hailing from all Somali states but you guys really have a thing with ruling and to make it worse disease called issaq thus not allowing anything good for them.Sad issaq and darood are cat ad mouse when in fact had they been allies they could have elevated the Somali name high. But too bad this leadership and power thing the darood chase is only a destructive mentality that will never bear any fruit and a backward thinking complemented with the 'gun'. We've seen what power hungry leaders did to Somalia before.

Nevertheless, Dhulbahantes have nothing to worry about joining democratic Somaliland where they can lead too and develop but some are hardcore tribalist and you are right about that. If they want they can join mogadishu and their parliament and I'm sure when they get stabbed with a pen for being reer waqooye they will run back to their reer abtiyaal. Besides Somaliland is not dumb, it will not attack anyone but they will defend their sovereignty by any possible means

puntlandGeezer if we are triblist we would gladly join Puntland instead of creating new state so we dont care about hartism or daroodism ….. and issaqs are not majority in the north ….. 30% dhulos,10% warsangeli, 10% gudabuursi and %50% issaq

    PuntlandGeezer Seedi,

You just exposed yourself, you are not from Puntland to start with and not only that but you also hit the nail on the head and I agree with your analysis.

The Dhulbahantes are wrong though, because if they stop fooling themselves and joint Somaliland they will have better chance in SL than in Somalia. I urge my cousins, uncles and aunts to stop this nonsense and not waste their precious time. I was watching the Somali TV to compare people from Talex to those in Lasanod and you could see how better dressed and better nourished the Lasanod Guys were and how dirty-looking and malnourished the Taleex guys were. The Lasanod Guys were even better dressed than Ali Khalif Galydh and Ali Issa, who both came from the USA. This difference is due to stability, peace and higher self-esteem of those who live under Somaliland flag.

    Dear readers

I an not being biased in this humble opinion of mines, but why does the so called ‘SSC’ peace organisation love sh*t-stirring and trouble making?. Don’t they realize that 20 years ago that the Inhabitants of Hargeisa were getting massacred in the thousands by the former dictator Siad barre, dont they even contemplate on the fact that their southern somali brothers are starving by the second.

I do not in anyway blame the Somaliland government in taking strict actions against on those selfish people.

P.S Half my family are dhulbahante but I’m still supporting the god blessed land of Somaliland.
