President Siilaanyo attends University of Hargeisa’s 7th annual commencement

Hargeisa (Somalilandpress) – President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud attends the 7th annual graduation commencement ceremony of Hargeisa University where 353 students graduated today. The ceremony which was full of spectacle was presided over by the president of Somaliland Ahmed Mohamud and attended by the Chairman of the Parliament, officials from the three political parties, business leaders, community leaders and the parents of the graduating students.
Security at the ceremony was well organized and executed by the Hargeisa local police and the president’s special guards after it was reported that Somali’s Al Shabaab militia might attempt to assault the commencement like they did last year at Banaadir Univesity in Mogadishu.
The Deans of each faculty spoke about their departments and the number of students that were graduating from each school. Dean Abdilahi Mohamed Odowaa who is the Dean of the Faculty of Conflict Resolution and Peace Building was the first Dean to speak with the audience. He informed the guess that 33 students are now graduating from his faculty and that USAID sponsored the faculty. Mr. Odowaa went on to add that they have a close cooperation relationship with University of Peace which is located in Coast Rica and that they have received four scholarships from that university.
Dean Odowaa was followed by Ahmed Mohamed Adaad, the Dean of the Faculty of Science. Dean Adaad stressed the importance of science and technology in the world. He also thanked National Link telecommunication for their charity support in building a fully equipped laboratory for the Faculty of Science.
The commencement conclude without any incident and the president of the university thanked the government, local business owners and the parents of the graduating students for their role and contribution towards making Hargeisa University one of the top institutions in Somaliland.
