So far so good.
Cheers.
Ka naxow nafta waa!
When I got up this morning,I listened to both his speech and the interview with BBC Somali Section and I liked what I saw. Wow! That is what we call a Presidential style. And yes, he is fluent in English and knows what he wants and how to get his view across.
Besides, he put the rumours that was circulating lately and raising suspicion to rest. He said in his speech at chatham House that Somaliland's sovereignty is not negotiable and he also said at the BBC in Somali language that "Gooni istaagga Somaliland waa mid aan la taaban karin." And he said it for the whole world to know that Somaliland is serious about its sovereignty and nationhood. That is good enough for me and for all Somalilanders across the globe. We believe him and know that he is a man of integrity that will honour what he says and does what he says.
A job well done, Mr. President, we are all very proud of you.
Well done, Mr. President!
I'm personaly amazed about president Silanyon's appointment in government of young hungry minds for change which has already marked president's commitment to change in an educational sense, and my simple message for the president and his cabinet ministers, is that more needs to be done and the already burning candle must continue relentlessly.
We cannot afford to be anyless than what we are.
I always like witty expressions by sis Gobaad, keep it up sis
Regards
That is what I call President. Just make comparison between the two {Riyaale & the Patriot}. Within three months that he is in power so many has changed at the international community impressio about Somaliland and the big celebration is in the making. The look, the style and fluent english makes the difference.
Poor Riyale was a victim of the divide and conquer pollitics of former Siyadists which he could do nothing about. He was a simple trader, and I hope we will learn lessons to take us forward.
Yes, President Silaanyo is making a difference Riyale hasn't been able to do in 8 years in office.
Dear bros & sis,
I was present that the Chatham House speech made by our President. However, I must state that I am very disappointed. It was an incredibility sad experience to be rejected and ignored by the Somaliland government delegation.
As a youth member of our large Diaspora community and should a strong advocate for Somaliland, I thought I would be given a few minutes to speak to some of our government delegation however, being rejected and look-down upon was the painful part!
So why are you complaining to us? Find other oppurtunities to speak to them. Maybe Chatham Hse wasn't the best venue for them to speak to you…maybe they were busy…So get over it!
Oh just shut up like you would have bowed down on the floor and said yes mr president thank you mister president for waving you hand at least im an animal. I didnt even look at this speach sooo boring he should practise on this BIG time
Nas,
To give you another oppertunity to share with them your ideas, the Somaliladn governement has a representative in London. You might be able to see him and passthrough him the information.
Long live for Somaliland,
The content of the speech was very good and this was undoubtedly a well written speech.
The delivery though, was somewhat poor – it was as if that was the first time he had seen the speech. He could have made more eye contact and read less from the text he was lecturing – he should have engaged the audience. Also, arguably, he talked too much about 'assistance' and aid, personally I did not see that as a good thing.
Otherwise, very good content and definately an improvement from Riyaale.
Axmad, I agree that:"He could have made more eye contact and read less from the text he was lecturing – he should have engaged the audience".
But the most important thing is the content and getting your message across. He did that. The style of presentation like making eye contact, not reading from the text much is widely used in the western world. One is not born with it. One has to practice, practice, and practice until one is comfort delivering it. Don't worry folks, it will come with time.
The president's speech was outstanding and he is a man who is lifting the sprit both of the people that he is representing and those who are listening to him. Not with stand that he should be compared or contrasted with Riyale. I was in Rayale's speech in Chatham House once beginning of this year? Trust me I was about to died with embarrassment and feel sorry for the man himself more than anything else. However, it seems the president is getting very old and his eye sights are letting him down. That well shows how he is holding the paper and all his concentrations get lost in order to delivering the speech. Had the speech written in BIG FONT he would made it MAJESTICALLY. What can you say "Haday Geeri Ku Dany La hayd? Gaboow baan Ku Daynayn" God Bless him
Axmad,
You do not even know how many times I was trying to get in contact with them! so dont you dare try to criticise me. I have spent alot of time and money in preparing reports for the gov delegation, but the rejection that I have encountered was unbelievable!
Take it easy, Nas. I don't believe that it was the delegation's fault. They may not even be aware that you were trying to contact then. It might have been the organizers fault. And you probably did not go through the proper channel.
Visiting delegations normally have busy schedules and little time for anything else, instead of trying to jump the que, you should have contacted the organizers.
Nas, brother…I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings…please forgive me. And please continue your efforts for the S/land people and also inshallah the delegation will give you some of their time. Best regards.
Otherwise, the gov has a representative in London. Go see him.
Yes it was well written speech and he did better then any foreign president that I know of most foreign presidents can't even speak English. When Sheik Shariff was there he had whole translator for his lecture.
You can read the full written speech in English in the following link:
http://www.somalilandglobe.com/1276/we-are-no-lon…
It would be great if Somalilandpress could post this speech in it's entirety on their website because I have not seen the English version anywhere else other than Somalilandglobe.
It's a beautifully written speech and deserves more publicity.
The written part of the speech by Mr. Silaanyo at Chatham House and posted a link here by Mr. Mohamed above is worth reading. It is a great speech, well written and well articulated speech that did not leave a stone unturned and touched all the important pressing issues past, present, and future. Good job Mr. President! You made us proud.
The President did very well and the content of his speech was well organized however he needs to make more eye contact with his audience when appealing to them rather than read a paper. I thought that was rather boring and most people must have fallen asleep.
Peace.
God…. our president got absolutely no presentation skills!! He basically wasted everyone's time in that reading session (as it was far from resembling a speech). If he did not bother to make an effort to practice the speech beforehand and speak like a leader of a country to the audience, he should just have emailed the contents of the paper he was reading from to all those who attended. I am very disappointed and embarrassed. His lecture reminds me of the time I used to present my university group projects to the professors, there assistants, and the students. I hated every bit of it.
The president did not come to impress or rather convince proffessionally a presentation for certain group of people. It was not a presentation . The president delivered a speech and he absolutely did it well and conveyed the message to all concerned. Please do not compare yourself with the president during your amature presentation in your college time. He could deliver the speech any way he wants and you are pound to listen and to abide by. You are a mare citizen and he is your president, period.
Everyone, I was there at Chatham House and even though I respect our President, it was unfortunate to see him be unable to answer most of the questions and be heavily dependent on our Foreign Minister during the Q&A session.
p.s. I am STILL waiting for a phone call from our Planning Minister Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire……he promised me that he will call me…….STILL WAITING!
How did you manage to get a seat? And what was the criteria they used to give/deny people seats ?
(if you know)
I am getting sick of Siinaanyo already Walaahi. He sounds like rockie, he can't deliver speech in mother tongue let alone english. He does not look like veteran politician, seriesly. He reminded Yusuf Yey ooh God. I think more than anything he needs relax, instead of rushing.
As Amina says other than his old age he should be okay.
Cheers.
I made every member of my family vote for him, but so far I am not impress honestly. Even the people in my family whom I forced them to vote for him are not impress either. So I am constantly defending Siinaanyo, and his policies. Change comes graduatelly I guess. I am being patien. Five years is nothing. But remember people when I am fed up I am going to send a critical article to Harawo.com.
Relax Patience (sabiir) has a big harbour in Godly Laws. The President has a whole team
of Cabinet top brass of Ministers working for him..so what's your problem. Besides regardless
his message was quite clearly understood and well conceived.
Cheers.
We will give time to President Silanyo so that he can put his act together, but to me it seems a lost cause already. An old man cannot lead a modern looking country at this time. He has given a very disappointing lecture. Remember he is here in England for health purposes not to give lectures to people. Poor Silanyo, you need a rest.
Ali…How about if you replace him do you think that you could do a better job. Just explain how you want things to run or perhaps you don't mind if your family only can rule the country?
man get lost and keep you nosy stingy to yourself. Goodbye.
Cheers.
We do not know where the health issue is come from? However, health issues or not? What you see is what you get. Silanyo either got old over night nor enter the Leading Roll through a window!!! He is the man that we fought for his corner and elected for the 'modern looking nation' yesterday?? Just because of his knowledge, experience and integrity, the nation choice him to Lead. It is way too early, inpatient, typical Somalilander's to criticise The President any wrong doing at this point. Let us be positive and help… NOT HAMPER
Silanyo did not come to the U.K for health reasons so let's not make up lies about something we don't know anything about. Yes the man is old, and we knew this when we voted for him. He comes with a lot of experience and is the only sincere statesman left in Somaliland not to mention the whole of Somalia as well.. He has surrounded himself with dynamic educated young men to do the daily work and he's on the top managing and guiding the ship.
For those of you that are already fed up and disappointed, you have no grounds because he hasn't been on the post enough time to make a difference.
The question you should be asking yourself is what can I do for the my government and how can I contribute instead of sitting here and whinning.
How many he went to hospital for check up so far — I love when Issak adverse to leaders . Others are not existance. " so far so good' " only for thre months in Office" .
Lets wait after six months — Issak song will be???????????
I have just read the Presidents speech and it was excellent. I am sure it was heavily penned by our Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamed Abdullahi. A former LSE professor. I am thoroughly impressed by the WRITTEN version. Well done to the whole team. I would like to see a similar speech delivered in Hargiesa well done all
