HARGEISA (Somalilandpress) – The Somaliland police reports that they arrested three men in Hargeisa, who are suspected of planning terrorist acts in Somaliland. The police reports that the three men had large amount of explosives in their possession.
Somaliland Police Commissioner, Mr. Mohamed Saqadhi Dubad, told the local press that men were arrested in a house in Hargeisa. One of the suspects has critical gun wounds.
The commissioner adds that the suspects claim that they came to Hargeisa to seek medical assistance. They claimed that their friend was stabbed in Bosasso, the capital of Puntland. But according to the police, the wounds of the injured man appears to be caused by gunshot. The police add that the men drove into Somaliland in small bus which is registered in Puntland.
It is not clear if the suspects were wound in the fighting that is taking place in Puntland between the local government and separatist militia that is loyal to Islamist Sheikh Atom.
In a press statement to Ogaal, an online news outlet, the Somaliland Police Commissioner, Mr. Dubad, did not confirm the identity of the suspects or their political affiliation. He stated that the police are still investigating the case and he didn’t give more details.
No one has claimed responsibility of any attempted attacks in Somaliland so far.
This is not the first time that the Somaliland police have foiled terrorist acts in the country. In
June of this year before the national election, the Somaliland Police arrested eleven people in possession of firearms and explosives in city of Burco. Although no one claimed responsibility of that attempt either, the Somaliland authority suspected that the extremist Islamist group Al-Shabab were behind the foiled attempts. Al-Shabab threatened to sabotage the election in Somaliland.
This comes as a deadly suicide bombing killed six parliamentarians in Muna Hotel in the Somali capital. The attack killed more than 30 people. The Islamist militant group, Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility of the attack. This attack has raised concern that the Al Qaeda-linked Islamist group is launching a new offensive against the country’s weak, Western-funded government. In a press statements from the group cited by news organizations indicated the attack was part of a “major war” it declared Monday against the Somali government and the UN backed peacekeeping force.
This attack comes few days later after the Ugandan government sent more troops to Somalia as part of the African Union’s effort to boost security for the Transitional government in Mogadishu. Although the African Union has pledged to send more troops to Somalia, no African country beside Uganda has confirmed sending troop to the troubling country.

I'm impressed by the vigilance and the readiness of our security agencies.
Both the Police and the CID are doing a tremendous job. The government should take care of the police officers who are puting their life on the line everyday, to keep us save. Their children should get free education and healthcare, and we should honor and appreciate them more.
somaliland should give them medical care, these people are fighting evil putland
Somaliland should be serious about security they should be arrested as soon as they crossed from the border not deep inside the country till they get the capital city Hargeisa.
visas should be issued at he immigration offices on the border offices travels should be screened before they are allowed to proceed their visit.
Border office haha . They don't seem to exist on the eastern side of Somaliland. Not that there is a clear border demarcated on the eastern side. Let's remember that the lack of a clearly demarcated border was the cause of much of the conflict between Somalia and Ethiopia (and Ethiopia and Eritrea). The lack of a clear eastern border in Somaliland is the cause of instability and conflict and it also affects Businesses, government tax collection, the high security spending, the lack of economic intergration of the eastern regions etc. etc. and also Somaliland recognition.
It has to be dealt with decisively PRONTO!.
This is another pure luck, this could have turn into deadly massacre. How did this terror group penetrate and entered the Capital of Somaliland in the first place? How were they not been detected by Somaliland securities in other States of Somaliland before the reach the capital? This is another wake up call and should be investigated by both the new administration and the security.
Faras I am agree with you that they are working hard, do you know how much was their monthly wages it is somting equivalent to 20 USD, and may be they haven't received their salaries for the last 6 months.
They deseave their monthly wages to be adjusted, and medical care for them selves and their families to be maintained, and keep on training them up to refresh their minds.
S/Land must be vigilant at all times! One way in preventing al-shabaab from advancing north and spreading their terror is assist the central state of Galmudug.
We must help create a buffer state in central regions in Somalia and prevent the spread this evil terror!!!
The police and other security agencies in Somaliland are working as hard as they can possibly. It is in the interest of every Somalilander to keep the country safe and secure from those barbaric murderers. I don't know what the Police or any other security agent gets for sallary and therefore would not comment on that, but I believe the skilled and qualified Somalilanders who live out side the country should think about ways to offer their services to their country and to their communities. That way we will only strengthen our security and eliminate chances of these cowards to attack our people.
What has happened in Somalia saddens my heart great deal. I hope a solution is found quickly and peace is brought to the people. They suffered long enough and deserve peace and harmony now.
Create an attack to blame on Al-Shabaab, and hope to get support from Somaliland must be the new plan of Pirateland.
Come on ladies and gentlemen! We need a more lively, realistic, honest debate. Some of these comments do not extrapolate the security situation of Somaliland. We should neither say nor write about our people and government on behest of others: avoid assumptions.
Somaliland proper have invested much progress to recover from the civil war of
of the brutal tyranny inflicted on the snm people who can not afford another civil war(god forbid) must be vigilant to foil all attempts intended to disrupt the
peace safety and security of this peace loving nation.
caano iyo nabad.
In good we trust iyo Allah mahad leh.
Cheers.
so you love Putland
Somalilanders Need to wake up and smell the cafe, and protect our Country from evil doers, and to have more security at the borders, and airport, and port.
we should be lazy about our securtiy, we cannot be aware every 2 years, we have to be aware everyday, and to suspect long beard men, or those who live in Somaliland, everyone should be aware at their surronding, a couple years if you see a long beard men in Hargeisa you may think they are relgious, in 2010 if you see a long beard men in Hargeisa everyone get scared of them, and no body trusts them, and i say that the government should have their eye on them, including tablaq.
I congratulate the Police Force of Somaliland for the arrest of these individuals carrying explosives. They should now be tried and sentenced to several years in prison for possession of explosives. Either these people are terrorist who want to spread fear or they are fleeing the fighting in Puntland and belong to Atom's forces, either way they should see in the inside of a prison for possession and be an example to others that they will be caught should they enter Somaliland with guns and explosives.
