Conflict and persistent insecurity became hallmarks of the African continent in the
post-colonial period. Civil unrest and political stalemates remain widespread, causing
political instability, as evident in the civil wars in Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic
Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Somalia Somaliland, and Uganda. The recent
Arab revolutions across North Africa (and the Middle East) are also a reflection
Of this continent-wide political and social discontent. I hope these graduates will contribute the peace building efforts in the regions as well as maintaining peace in Somaliland.

    Congratulations to the new graduates.

In my opinion the peace is something that people of Somaliland decided to uphold and we have passed that test now, because we have tasted the agony of conflict twice if I remember well, but the other equation is what bothers me much, because we are loosing those good elders who made the difference, and only two of them are right now with us. The reason i am pessimistic, once we lost those good old men, those who replaced them do not have the criteria of those we need for this task, which is very important one. I see, the current KOOFIYAD BACLES that spreads like wild-fire are not those we could trust this very delicate and important matter, Once you politicize, the tradition, then ethics fade dramatically.

Furthermore, economy places big part of this important undertaking, because Police Stations are source of the bad start of any conflict surfaces, because of financial position of the soldier that books the case in the occurrence book at station. Unless the people who are in those places are economically well or at close to wellness, then whoever we enroll from the group graduated from this school will not change anything on the ground. I have experience in this field because I was a Police Officer, even though I did not work those places that you encounter such problems, but I have some kind of knowledge. The government must try to change th lives of the people in question, and only then we may control the conflict issue.

Omer, I know where you're coming from but Somaliland wasn't about individuals so let's hope a good and khair from those who're lacking the immense leadership their elders used to have!!!

The institute of peace and conflict studies is a key component of the foundations in which Somaliland is built on today. It is pleasure to learn that the study of peace and conflict resolution is regarded as subject of preference among Somalilanders, and perhaps these new graduates and the once before them can now play their role in taking the culture of peace and conflict resolution which Somaliland is renowned for to the next level. Congratulations for your achievement and keep up the good work.
